See the comments - I was able to buy the things I want. This thread wasn't about "losing" or not getting what I wanted.

I'm not crying - just expressing my distaste for heavily weighted items.

Thanks for the input though, sure was useful.

Yeah, there are multiple posts about it now; as far as I can tell, none have official responses, but this definitely looks like a deviation from the norm. Bravil Retriever was similar during the Wild Hunt season, but it was nowhere near this bad. If they'd just come out and say it was a mistake, that would be one thing, but their silence (and apparent closing of related threads) speaks volumes of a different sort.

Whale-based or not, the crates are getting exponentially harder to defend. :( I don't blame you for giving up on them if they refuse to fix it; I was thinking of doing the same.

This is more about the fact that one item's dropping way more than the other items of the same tier. It wouldn't matter if it were a couple repeats of various items, but people are getting like 7 or more drops of the same pet.

It's not salty that you're disappointed that ZOS doesn't post odds, then changes reward rates slowly to suck up more money.

Are these said crates from Crown store purchases or am I doing something wrong and never getting any?

This one is a true ESO nub in these matters.

Crown crates are boxes with a chance to get this super cool thing, or that kinda cool thing, or that terribad thing. You can buy the crates in the crown store, and see all the possible things you could get, except for a few things that are not listed there because they are super super rare drops and you cannot buy them with converted gems from turning in consumable items you do not want or if you get repeat items like costumes or pets that you already have.

This is exactly the type of activity people foresaw that would happen. So many have said that these crates are gambling and its immoral business and would lead to even worst practice like lower drop rate on good rewards, rare rewards that cant even be bought with gems and rigged drop rate on mediocre rewards (bug or not).
If you want me to reply to your comment type @Ankael07 in it.

thanks for the heads up, I won't be participating this time until they can come up with something a bit more fair.

With BDO and Tera on the way, ZOS is going to be hurting financially next year unless they step up the game...

But what are the drop rates supposed to be? Don't know? Then how can you even begin to allege that it is fixed?

Because its gambling and if ZoS are too scared to reveal the inner workings of the system and back it up with evidence, why would we believe that it isn't? ESPECIALLY when the entire thing is designed to make money.

And that's the thing - if it was just me having bad luck that's fine and well - but it's pretty clear it's happening to the majority of crate buyers. If have seen evidence of people buying like 30 and only getting 3 - but alot of people are getting them like 1/3 of the time... I obviously had some doubly crappy luck - but it's also more than luck, items are straight up weighted abnormally and it kind of ruins the incentive to buy more. I've watched 4 crate opening videos now and all the people in them got the pet atleast 1 in 3 boxes, sometimes more. That's only a handful of players, but we don't have much to go on since forum polls will just be skewed in minutes anyway.

I don't know why people think this encourages us to buy more - even people with addictive personalities will only get burned so much before quitting - the whole thing that keeps people gambling is the highs - not the repetative lows. Out of 19 crates I didn't get a single high moment - my addictive personality no longer has any reason to kick in.

Even day 1 of Morrowind some guy asked in chat what everybody got for their free crate - 90% of answers were Nix Hound pet.

I did adamantly defend these crates as being good value, even though the last season was on the decline for my luck...this season seems to defy simple "luck".

I really don't think 15/19 boxes isn't simply chalked down to RNG - it's actually straight up unreasonable. There's obviously something else at play.

Is anyone shocked that a system that is, in concept, a rip-off would, over time, devolve into even more of a rip-off?

Every person who bought a crate, ever, owns responsibility for this happening. Remember all the threads in "Season One" of Crown Crates mocking people for the doomsaying around Crown Crates? All the discussion of how it wasn't a rip-off at all, that it was really easy to get everything you wanted? You guys actually thought that wasn't a strategy? You got played.

The only way to prevent this is to make sure ZOS is financially punished for not being above-board in their offerings. They wanna sell stuff? They can damn-well well it openly for a reasonable price--or even a not-reasonable price. But a gambling system is inherently sleazy, and it's absurd to get upset about the creeping sleaziness in something inherently sleazy. If you reward them for minor sleaziness, expect major sleaze. And far too many of the community seem incapable of punishing the sleaze.

Personally, the worst thing for me is that I was rather fond of the Nix Hound I bought back when it was available in the Store. I'll confess I was kind of proud of my somewhat-rare pet. So much for that.

The difference between Casino gambling and this is that ZOS literally stands to lose nothing even if we did get all the items in good time. This is purely a form of milking - and it really wasn't this bad in previous seasons which is why I'm using the word rigged now.

But again - my issue isn't with not getting good rewards - it's with getting the exact same one every time.

Of course it's rigged and yeah, I fully appreciate ZoS stand to lose nothing. My point is, all gambling is heavily rigged and isn't rigged in any shape or form towards us plebs.

Well I for one am grateful for this post because it is making me feel a bit better about my poor rng lol I also got way to many nix pets, some ugly dwarven brows, and the eye scope thing. I didn't get an apex mount btw and I bought way to many crates to not get anything. The best thing I got was an order of the hour motif which I didn't need. It really
shouldn't surprise me though because my in game rng is horrible also. @ZOS_GinaBruno you should really look into this I think my account is broken ;-) Now on the other hand my husband that also plays has been blessed by the rng gods and has always got an apex mount each crate season with only
1 pack of crates and gets all the awesome stuff in game. This round he got the apex bear and the rare horse so go figure. I guess I will just sit here and be salty, me and my 25 nix pets ;-)

I think I mentioned something about this strategy a year ago before the crates launched . Slowly lowering the drop rate of apex rewards has been reported in all games with lottery boxes .

We need a law like in China that forces companies to disclose drop rates.

The Nix Hound is clearly the most heavily weighted collectible item, out of 5 crates 4 of them dropped the nix hound for me (which I already had to start with).
Of course, I actually prefer this to the alternative of getting something that looks dumb like the brow plates or a dress or the gods damned shower cap, which we aren't allowed to turn into gems if we don't want them. -_-

So much this. It makes people want to buy crates even less, not more. I can't imagine why ZOS thinks that making the drops crappier would make people want to buy more. Instead, it's turning off people who otherwise would be a fan of the crates. When people get too discouraged, they stop buying.
