By the way, guys: I KNOW you are mostly awesome and won't do this, but still I will ask. Please, PLEASE, do not flame Gina for the information.

Please, do not kill the messenger. At least they were not simply put in the game with no warning.

I am sure most of the people who works for ZOS also have previous experience with MMOs and are not happy with the addition of those either (I want to believe!), but of course they can't voice their displeasure like we can.

I do not have high hopes for the article tomorrow, since I do not believe they will do the changes that are necessary to make the crates less awful, especially regarding the non-themed exclusives. But... Oh whatever, I'm done making excuses for them, I will just press "post reply" and go feed my horses.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Well, they're coming. We all knew they would. No stopping them.

I won't be buying. Not my thing. Nor will most people on here so it'll be interesting to see the results of nobody buying.

I'm feeling a little better. Or less awful.

I was expecting them to be stealth-added to the store like motifs were back when they began adding motifs. Having an actual ETA is a little less awful. Honestly, knowing it was going to happen but not knowing when was stressing me out more than any game should stress anyone out.

I'll toss an internet hug here for good measure, how about that?

I'm not sure if they did change their minds, since some full sets of mounts like the skeleton mounts were datamined around that time, and it seems like full set of mounts are going into themed Crown Crates. I think they just used a bit of word play: Technically, they are not locked. You don't have to buy a key to open the box, you just have to buy the box :P

Oh, the art of not telling the whole truth while "technically" not lying. Back then, it was effective. It made us accept the addition of the Cash Shop and the B2P conversion. "See, guys? It will be okay, they are not adding those awful RNG boxes like the other games!"... Only that's not what they said. Technically.

Yeah, imagine buying a random box that could produce a cake, but you get a packet of raisins instead. People work hard for their cash and expect to get what they paid for. These crates are a joke.

The carefully parsed this statement and they happily discovered that Crown Crates do not violate it. They are not "locked"! Weee!

Of course, if they had accidentally said "no RNG boxes", that would not have stopped them. Nothing would have stopped these. No one at ZeniMax (any ZeniMax) or Bethesda would have any interest in stopping them.

Hmmm, not liking this at all. When SWTOR started adding these gamble packs the game went downhill fast, new raid/group content pretty much stopped and the only thing to 'look forward to' for a long period of time was the release of a new monthly crate with new cosmetics in. And of course the best stuff was stupid hard to obtain without spending way more than anyone ever should on a game. As you've probably guessed I (and most of my old guild mates) don't play SWTOR any more because there is nothing new for us to do together any more.

I really hope ESO doesn't go this way, but past experiences show me that it inevitably will. Before we know it the crates could well be the focus of any new 'content' and it's a damn shame because gamble crates by design are 90% junk and a real life money sink and add no value to game play or longevity of a game.

And the argument of 'don't buy it if you don't like it' is a bit redundant, I'm sure people against the crates will avoid them, as they did in SWTOR. But that doesn't change the fact that lots of people WILL buy them and the crates can easily become the main focus for the bean-counters behind the scenes and we all know they control the direction games go nowadays.

WOW I clicked on a "Z" marked topic and there was an actual reply from the staff!!!??
    What is happening?

As long as you allow us to trade in the useless stuff, potions, lessons etc I don't mind them. (Nobody should ever use them since they are worse than created ones)

If you don't like the crates, don't buy them, can't be more simple than that.

    Give them time.

Already there's the better than players can make experience scroll/potion.

Yes, they did add the recipe for players to make something "similar". Then they had to hotfix it since the "rare drops" needed were NOT dropping anywhere. Since the hotfix I have seen people selling the incredibly rare drops. I guess "incredibly rare" from "not in the game" is an improvement.

If people start trading back all the poisons/drinks/food/consumables no one buys or wants to use, they will make "improvements" to make sure people will stop trading them back. Or find other "filler" crap to put in the crates that you won't be able to trade back. The whole point of these things is to get people to keep trying for that exclusive mount or discontinued item they want. Watch Miz Bizz's youtube about opening the crates. People on the pts got literally hundreds of the consumables. If people can rack up dozens of gems for the consumables, they'll be able to buy what they want. Not what the rngesus crate lady wants.
