IMPORTANT UPDATE! ZOS PLEASE reconsider your decision to no longer make FEMALE Light armor!

They take the time to make new meshes accommodating Khajiit, Argonian, and sometimes Orc faces. But time spent making meshes for female bodies is apparently wasted time.

This is not unheard of in the video game industry. When Ubisoft presented Assassin's Creed Unity at E3 a few years ago, they stated they would not add female characters to the game:

It was on our feature list until not too long ago, but it’s a question of focus and production. So we wanted to make sure we had the best experience for the character. A female character means that you have to redo a lot of animation, a lot of costumes. It would have doubled the work on those things… And I mean it’s something the team really wanted, but we had to make a decision. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a reality of game development.

Clearly, Zenimax has included women in the game. But IF an explanation every comes on this issue, I'm expecting it to sound a lot like this.

Which is a shame, because there are some really cool women working for this company, including @ZOS_GinaBruno and @ZOS_JessicaFolsom.

And those 2 awesome women should be head smacking every smary no-brained suit (whether male OR female) upside the back of the head Dinozo style who suggested this travesty. I'm still trying to figure out how Gina made that announcement on ESO live with a straight face and without simply throwing up.

The simple answer is this is an RPG not an MMO, therefore we must roleplay females cross dressing in ancient times.

I am curious who at the company saw the end result and decided it looked good and to push it out into production. Perhaps they need an eye exam? I mean, I can't speak for everyone, but I would prefer it if my female characters didn't look like they were wearing a stuffed trash bag. I am super disappointed to see the end result of some of the newer armor, and I will actively not be purchasing or using any of the armor that looks so bad. So, if that was the goal they were hoping to achieve, they are succeeding.

Perhaps ZOS is trying to appeal to the transgender community...

Why even have female characters in game if they'll end up being men with big butts and weirdly feminine faces.

As a transgender woman, I can tell you for sure that I prefer my characters appear feminine.

Boobies are a normal body part, like leg or ear. I wonder why don't they do that in reverse, I mean female into male. Or something.

At leat we have a reason to use old styles... But that's a very stupid reason.

Exactly. And imo neglecting female characters like this is kinda sexist. Like its shameful to have breasts.

It's not shameful to have them. it's shameful to acknowledge them.

    @ZOS_GregoryV @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_RichLambert

Why was the decision made to mutilate our anatomy? I'm a female player who plays female characters. People tend to often identify better with their own gender and often model their characters after themselves in some way.

Honestly, this change is messed up. What's the reason for it? Did some person who takes issue with pixel anatomy couldn't handle it and complained? It's ridiculous. If someone cannot handle realistic human forms in a video game, maybe they need psychiatric help. I can only imagine their days. Poor things, must be terrifying to walk down the street and see human shapes all over.

Breasts are not something to be ashamed of and this is a disgusting change. Should I be ashamed in real life because GASP I have breasts? Maybe I should buy loose baggy men's clothing instead of fitted women's clothing so I look like I'm wearing a potato sack, lest someone realize I have breasts.

Better yet, let's make sure the legs are all bagged out as well so people can't see we have legs. And those small shoes, those need to go. Can't let anyone see the shape of our feet. That would be wrong!

I refuse to be ashamed of my anatomy and shame on any person involved in this pathetic disgusting decision.

Whoever first brought this idea to the table should be fired, and the group of people who agreed should also be fired.

Maybe that would make some room for people who actually want to help do bug fixes.

I totally agree, OP. After seeing how beautiful the Trinimac light shoulders are, I decided to spent a bit of gold and pick up the chests (I'm on Xbox, btw). The results were pretty disappointing to say the least, especially with all the gorgeous detailing and how well colours take to the patterns.

The medium armour version doesn't look much better either- it makes the female torso look really 'boxy' with no discernible breasts or tapering in at the waist.

As a female gamer who rolls mostly all female characters, I am less than pleased. Is this really going to be a permanent change?

Of the six characters I play, two are female. Neither is particularly chesty (though my Dunmer NB does rate pretty highly on the Mix-A-Lot scale). But that doesn't mean I find I find it acceptable for either of these characters to look like boys or men.

Our characters, like ourselves, come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The openness of ESO's character creation is one of the game's strengths. It makes absolutely zero sense to undercut one of your product's greatest strengths.

    Greetings everyone,

We are glad to see everyone's thoughts about female light armor. While we can understand this can be a touchy subject, we would like to request that we all keep in mind, we would like to keep all threads respectful, civil, and constructive. We have recently taken a moment tp remove some rather Inappropriate Content and Language.
Inappropriate Content and Language: Certain topics and subjects are deemed inappropriate and not permitted on the official ESO forums. Things that we consider inappropriate are usually illegal, extremely volatile or violent, obscene, vulgar, or simply inappropriate for an official game forum such as ours. Inappropriate content on the ESO forums includes, but is not limited to the following:
    Extreme violence
    Illegal substances and activities
    Pirated copyright-protected material
Pornography and other sexually explicit topics
    Real-world religion and politics
    Tasteless, vulgar, or obscene material

One specific term we’d like to call out, as well, is the term “gay.” It is never appropriate to use “gay” as a derogatory term.

Please be aware that future violations of the Community Rules may result in this thread being closed and removed from the ESOTU forums. Thank you for your understanding.

Well, there's the "official" response. Hope you liked it, cause that's all we're gonna get. Time to unsub.

The character models of female armor were different before. They were indeed very feminine looking, but a small portion of the community played the "sexist" card and ZoS changed the look.

I, for one, believe that the old models look much better. Not for the sake of curves but for the sake of creating a female character that ACTUALLY looks like a female character. (Keyword, character)

I support a push to go back to the original art models or even partially. The constant flagging of all artistic mediums for the sake of the more "equal & righteous" path is something I wish didn't affect areas it needn't be, especially if that particular piece happens to carry a rating or promoted suggestion of being mature oriented in it's content.

Just to be clear - this issue really isn't anything to do with censoring female sexuality - it's ZOS deciding to cut corners.

They have chosen to save money by no longer taking the time to design female armour.

With this choice they are telling us female gamers are unimportant to them. Our characters can look like males, or we can play males...but we're not allowed to look like ourselves.

What I'm surprised on is that costumes and cosmetics are a huge part of any game's Cash Shop and makes thousands of dolars alone. To save in that is like really a bad decision to put it gently.

This is a fantasy game. So armor should be elaborate and fitting to form. Maybe not only. But the clothing should fit to form for sure. I repeat, this is a fantasy game. And in most swords and magic story's the Elves at lest can even forge form fitting heavy armor...
