Still have random crashes on 64 and 32 bit. I stick to 32 bit with crashes spread farther apart compared to 64 bit every 5-10 min. I have tried and do not like the proposed fixes as well as lowering graphics settings that have worked sense the start of the game. I have had the same system sense launch. I built it for ESO.

For those who complain of us complaining, maybe we don't copy and paste script into our posts or sit at our systems with a running detailed log of every crash. Maybe we try and immediately log back in hope it doesn't happen again for no reason, so we can loot the boss, not get kicked from zone, etc.

One would think with all these reports/ complaints that the Employees of ZOS would log on to there own computers and see for themselves. And let them make detailed logs and crash out of the game repeatedly.

Why? Because that's their job and none of us can accurately tell exactly why our game crashed. The crash report does not provide any information.

Crashes: logging to other toon, riding mount in Riften, wayshrine travel, crafting, reloading UI, throwing caltrops, fighting npc, fighting players, liquid lightning, sieging, entering door, dungeons, boss fights, looting chest, fighting molar bal, traveling through wrothgar, porting to deshan, keep change from one alliance to another, and logging in. (All 64 and 32 bit)

I'd like to jump in the bandwagon.

I crash whenever I hit Play from the launcher
I crash from whether the 32 or 64 bit .exe files
    There is no addons
Deleted the ESO folder on documents
    I have DirectX11

I have current PTS and it works on same computer, therefore this is not the DirectX11 issue I don't think

My old Mac, which shouldn't be able to run ESO after the changes to OpenGL, is able to bypass and log to the game albeit it's own crash problems.

I think you have to have a forum post limit to 10 posts. :open_mouth: Is that right @ZOS_GinaBruno ? Or is it something entirely different? I has a confuse.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Hi Gina, the crashes upon running eso.exe (32 and 64) stem from a call to DirectX11 that is not being interpreted by the system (video card drivers) properly. Some new systems that have updated video drivers one on top of the next for a long, long time also have this happen - as mine did.

In order to get around the crash, a player / user can do the following:

    1. Install the dxcpl (DirectX Control Panel) from the (free) Windows 8 software development kit or the (also free) Windows 10 software development kit, Note that the Windows 8 SDK works for Windows 7 as well.
    2. Add the eso.exe and eso64.exe executables to the list of executables to affect (client the Edit List button and add both one at a time - probably from C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client)
    3. Put a check mark in "Force WARP" at the bottom of the window.
    4. Select 11_1 from the Feature level limit to the left of the "Force WARP" check box.
    5. Click Apply, then OK

The simple explanation: This will cause software to pretend that the system (video card and respective drivers) supports DirectX 11 in the way that the ZOS developers have coded the requirement (or some sort of function call upon opening the game client - which doesn't make sense, though that's how they did it).

I tried this on an older laptop (Intel HD 3000 which does not support past DirectX 10.1), and it let me log in, though the load screen of 5 minutes caused a time out after that.

I believe that if anyone gets past that point and into the game (I've not tried the 5 minute load screen again), then the game will play VERY poorly, as all of the DirectX 11 optimizations will be handled by the CPU instead of the GPU (video card), so quality of everything will go down significantly.

Note that I'm not recommending that anyone do this and play with this work around, just that I'm noting that this workaround allows the game to load past the first half second where it would normally crash.

Regarding my own system, a reformat / re-install (GTX Titan Black) fixed my crashing issue. My wife's GTX 970 system started working after uninstalling the nVidia drivers, rebooting, then re-installing the latest ones (released a day or two ago on their web site).

Hopefully this will help the developers identify what they added into this patch that causes the crash on execution of eso.exe. I believe that instead of crashing, if the game truly will not support (even at lower settings) players without DirectX 11 capable video cards then it will - upon correction of the bug, give a graceful exit with an error message of "Sorry player, your video card is too old for this game, please go buy a new one!"

    Have a good night!

I'm getting kicked back to the log in screen every time I try to switch characters now.

The game has been unbearably unstable after TG patch/dlc. I've crashed more during just an evening of playtime than these past two years put together. And the same goes for most of the people in my guild. Dungeon runs have been just horrible. We are supposed to try the new trial tomorrow, but if it continues like this, it will be impossible.

On start up menu, search for 'dxcpl' after downloading the software development kit
On its own menu, it should show a button "Edit list" and you will see some settings mentioned in point 4.

I too am crashing at launch. I have tried everything i can think of and found something that could be the problem. when i run dxdiag i see this:
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found

I am thinking that parameters not found cannot be a good thing. All drivers are updated. I even updated Teamspeak as a post regarding this issue indicated that sometimes this can cause a problem.

another internet search post said that the registry files were gone and had to be recreated.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/directx-not-found-and-cannot-be-installed-because/3a9cbe05-c846-42ec-956f-72c2d0b09382

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am very concerned that my guildmates are missing me and will remove me from the roster.

I'm having this crash on launch problem too, and my DX12 compliant card isn't doing much to help with it.

Like @Billtheman, I need OpenGL on PC as well, so even when they get this one particular problem straightened out, I still won't be able to play because of that. They've done the work of developing OpenGL for Mac, if they don't bring it over for PC too, they're going to lose a bunch of paying customers.

I think it was $80 for the Imperial version I have, plus a year of subscription, so $260 paid to play this game. I cancelled my subscription because I'm not going to pay to not play again. I'll watch and see how this develops.
  • The_Legendary_Arya
Thank u very, very much @Crown , it worked! I can go into the game! I can´t play it, as u foretold, but still i could manage to chat with friends&guild, so they know the problem.
Still, id like to really PLAY the game, so zeni has to fix it-but cause my Laptop is anyway from 2012 and im running Intel HD Graphic 3000, which isnt good enough i think, i hope with a new Laptop this will work.

I'm confused as to what you mean... if you have a 'new system' how would you have updated video drivers one on top of the next for a long, long time? Also, people should always do a CLEAN uninstall (complete removal) of a video driver before ever installing an update... this has been a known problem for a very long time, that updating a video driver without first doing a clean uninstall of the previous version could cause a lot of problems.

@ADarklore for the past two years we've done the express nvidia update to drivers instead of a clean remove / install when there are updates. A clean remove then install fixed my wife's computer's crash on launch. I just reformatted my gaming rig for the minty fresh feeling ;)
