Console players how do you feel about having no txt chat?

It limits me and my abilities.

It's pretty difficult to find decent players for anything.

    Here's why:

    1) Some players don't have mics.

    2) Some players DO have mics, but are never in the Area Chat channel.

    3) Some players just don't want to respond at all.

    4) Some players are in their Guild Channel, therefore cannot hear what is being said in Area Chat.

    5) Some players are always in PSN Party Groups.

I don't mind, I mean the PS4 ships with a mic (altho its not a good one and picks up your game sounds so I bought a headset instead) so just speak! I get that some people don't want to speak, or they are playing in an environment where it wouldn't be possible to, but for most people, speaking seems ok.

If they aren't gonna add a chat box then custom speech emotes would be a good addition.

Honestly i dont care about text chat, I LOVE the social aspect to the game, but then again i dont want to force other people to play like i want to so i have no problem with people getting a text chat other then the fact that less people will be social and thats lame

    First MMORPG?

Text chat is just as social as voice chat. The difference is, that with text, it is easier to filter out the very anti-social behaviors common on the voice channels. The two methods of communicating work well together and actually promotes more socializing because no one gets left out.

What's easier than just clicking on someone in-game and blocking them? I love how people make out text chat is the only plausible way to block undesirables. It's not. Blocking their gamertag (which takes 5 seconds at most) gets rid of them forever. I'd also see your point completely if all new consoles didn't come with a mic as standard. It's not really my problem or anyone elses problem if someone doesn't want to use a mic just because they don't like using one. If you can't due to circumstances i.e. your partner sleeping next to you, then fair enough, but no point making out text chat is the be all and end all you're making it out to be.

Also, if someone is being a *** via the mic, they tend to act like a *** using chat too.

What i will say, I think some people who gripe about not being able to do this or do that don't even use their mics and then come on here moaning because people haven't magically read their mind in-game. Then you have those that also complain about finding it hard to group because rather than ask over a mic, they go around just pinging random people to group. Unless I'm stood outside a dungeon or inside a dungeon, I never accept random group requests. Because other than that, I'm not a mind reader and have no idea why they'd be pinging me. If people in cities can't be bothered to tell me why they're wanting to group, then i can't be bothered accepting their random requests.

Yes, I had gotten the random pings as well, and also turned them down. And I know that sounds strange I would do that, considering I complain about not being able to initiate these things on my own lol
But actually I think was only twice for group request, both times in a place where I had to wonder why would one group? And I didnt accept because once I had plans to go on a fishing trip (didnt think anyone would want to group for that) and the other because I was in a bank and getting ready to sign off.
I received far more of these random pings to trade. These really puzzled me. Normally I enjoy the trading process with other players on PC, but there I have already communicated with the player and the terms have been set before the window opens. On console, I dont get the point of random pings for trade? Are we both supposed to just keep throwing various items into the window and hit accept if it looks good? Take it out if it doesnt? All this back and forth looks to me like a good way to hit the wrong button at the wrong time and get scammed. Or maybe we wont have any agreement at all and just wasted each others time.
But still, I felt bad about turning them down. Because I know and understand there are reasons people wont use their mic. In my case, though I can type very quickly and be understood, unfortunately I am opposite when speaking. I have to speak slowly to be understood, and its frustrating for others to listen to (which many have no problem in letting me know).
But other players who dont speak may be deaf, or have a stutter or anxiety issues, or be in situation where they have to maintain silence, or they are female or maybe sound very young, or perhaps they just dont have a mic at all. There are probably many reasons for it. But by using the random pings they are trying to still do things, despite being unable to communicate. And I have to give them credit for that, even if I turn them down.
But the thing is, I can honestly say in my own personal experience I have never received these random pings on PC, even though there is no voice chat there. This is a main reason why I suspect if console had a text chat, there would be far less random pings, as well as less attempts at mind reading. Console players who would rather not type, or perhaps have a physical issue that makes it easier for them to use a controller vs a keyboard, could still use voice chat to communicate, even with those who are using text chat. Just another reason why I agree that options are good.

    NO CHAT BOX

Use a mic, or go play on PC.

You can't make that an "optional" thing...

This game on consoles DOES NOT need a chat box people.... stop with this constant begging for it...

ZOS has already stated "We will NOT be putting in a chat box for the console version of the game."

How exactly is saying they work well together, implying that text chat is "the be all and end all"? I don't know what console you use, but on PS4 it is not so simple to block the offending jerk on voice. And yes, text can be filtered and moderated. Voice can only be blocked. Hell we can't even control the volume level of others individually.

I said they both, together, promote more socializing, which was a reply to the post saying text would make people be less social. As if speaking is social and typing isn't.

    Actually...
Why did you even bother to reply to my post. It is obvious you didn't understand it or read it at all.

Why not? No one would force you to have the text box enabled. You would still be able to continue through the game blissfully ignorant of those that can't communicate with you on voice, as you are doing now.

To be fair, both FFXI and FFXIV have their share of trolls in chat. However, I found 14 better in that the trolls are largely relegated to certain servers *coughgilgameshcough* while the rest are pretty tame (Tonberry ftw)

I would really love to see a text chat box for Cyrodill. I run in small groups because things get real loud in bigger groups. The in-game voice chats hurts my ears so I always communicate with my group through Xbox party. The down side is we can't communicate with the other groups in-game for better team work against the other alliances. Everyone goes where they want to go. In the end most groups end up wiping. With a text chat box for Cyrodill purposes every player in your alliance (same campaign) can let everyone know where they're heading. Every player would be connected.

Huh... Idk must have been from a different server because I rarely ever saw it.
It's still not as bad as when a woman talks in voice chat and it seems as though a good portion of guys playing the game become neanderthals.

I feel like a part of the game is absent. Voice chat works for controlled settings like dungeons and trials. However setting up those groups is troublesome when looking for decent players at higher (VR12-16) levels. Most of what I have personally found is a lot of people talking over one another, with random noises mixed in or no one talking at all. The latter makes the world feel very empty. The former is equal parts annoying and distracting.

I want it. I have social anxiety and am really uncomfortable talking in voice chat especially since a lot of people comment the way I talk. I don't go on the game to deal with stupid people's crap comments, I go on to have fun drama free as much as possible.

    Fine, thank you.
    • Now, I don't have to shift between my keyboard and gamepad every two minutes.
    • Now, I'm not forced to instant reply to a question from somebody.
    • Now, I'm not distracted when fighting a mob.
    • Now, my screen isn't populated with a big TextBox taking away the glory of the magnificent graphics below.
    • Now, I'm not bugged with hardcore salesmen selling me Vampire Bites and other stuff I don't want.
    • Now, I'm not offended by the primitive and barbaric language of some people.

And I'm feeling more fine, because I know they will never install TextChat in this game.

We don’t need TextChat, but we do need better communication functionalities in this game to kill the asocial atmosphere:
    • An enhanced and richer mail function
    • A better Groupfinder
    • Improved VoiceChat
    • And an in-game private Guild Forum

All the negatives you listed wouldn't really affect you if you just disabled it because it would be an optional feature.

I can't see the benefit of the other feature improvements you listed when I genuinely feel text chat could provide soo much more social benefits in one package.

Again these are just my opinions, and I feel the game lacks basic MMO vibes due to lack of text chat.

Hope ZOS adds it in the near future. Peace out peeps.
