Not one person in this thread doesn't think that ZOS should monetize their product. It is just the fashion that they are choosing to advertise said products that is in question.

I agree it's not acceptable. Notices on the launcher and login screen along with other game updates and notifications are fine but to my mind on-screen notifications in the game are for important messages, like the server being shut down soon, not advertising.

And like many people I don't object at all to them having a cash shop or advertising it. I've actually been checking every day to see if there's anything new (I do the same in GW2 as well) so if anything the message is a bit redundant for me. But there's a big difference between choosing to look, seeing it in amongst other news about the game and having it slashed across my screen.

An on-screen message IMMEDIATELY after I've entered the world and only then? Ok.

For anyone who may think that PET day is an actual holiday, I assure you it is not. In the US, it is not a real holiday if it does not appear on the calendar. It is not a real holiday if the banks are open. It is not a real holiday if the Post office is open. It is not a real holiday if my kids are in school. We have many days during the year that have holiday like titles. NONE of them are 'observed' as actual holidays. Pet day....never knew it existed until this message came across my screen.

The only kinds of games where in-game advertising or product placement is acceptible are games which can be classified as simulation. Racing, sports, real-life simulation, or portions of fiction which are meant to emulate the real world. A fantasy RPG is the exact opposite end of those definitions.

Second,they are relying in part on the store to make revenues ,they have to promote it to make money.If they dont promote then the store wont make much money and maybe they are going to have to add P2W stuff to support the game and nobody wants that.

This baffles me,cant you guys see that what you guys are complaining about is so much insignificant compared to the measures ZOS may have to take in order to support the game?!

The store dont sell,the quality of the game goes down.

Sleezy used car dealers have to promote their product to make money as well. That doesn't mean their tactics are wise.

Obnoxious in-your-face reminders to take out the credit card will have quite the opposite effect than you are suggesting. Most of the members of this community that have money to spend are well aware of the cash shop and want to enjoy an immersive game. If they are left alone to do what they enjoy w/o ads in their face, then they will more than likely continue to financially support the game.

If they feel pressured to dish out cash at the expense of immersion and game enjoyment, then they will take their money and find another game. Then you will have a bunch of people that don't care about the ads because they don't have any intention of paying for anything anyways.

Then the game will have to resort to even more drastic measures to make money. P2W elements, even more annoying ads, and lockboxes. Which will lead to the departure of any potential investors that happen to remain at that point.

It is a vicious snowball effect. I have seen it, and it's ugly and predictable. This type of advertisement will lead to quite the opposite effect than what you are suggesting, I assure you. There are better ways to do it.

I think ads are ok on loading screens and launcher but NOT in the midst of play (without store interface open obviously).

Also, I haven't actually seen this yet and was playing for a while tonight. Is it only showing for people who don't have subs? It's also possible that an add-on is interfering, since something similar occurred before.

I'm going to offer a solution to your advertising needs. As this is my idea, I can see there may be a problem of implementing it due to Intellectual Property, so here is my disclaimer. You are free to do with it as you wish.

Instead of having massive advertisements to promote your crown store on screen, have a link on the message boards where you collect your daily crafting writs. If you click on said link, it will open up the crown store showing what you are advertising and as the player took the time to go to a message board to see what is being promoted and clicked on the link, the player will get a bit of a discount.

Personally though, I don't want a pet. My pets are locked away. The thing about a pet is that you care for them. And I'm sure that if you cared for your pet you wouldn't be taking it into a hostile area where it's likely to get killed. It looks absolutely stupid especially when you are laying siege down on a castle and you look around to see dogs, monkeys, spiders, and spheres following their masters to then see their masters get killed and the pet just looking at the corpse wondering what idiot would got charging into a ballista like that.

You want my money, then you're going to have to come up with something better then pets.
