Well they eat, defacate, make a lot of noise, and demand your attention.
That's similarity enough for me.
There's many slinkin' about in towns and just outside. Lizards, chickens, pygmy guar, monkeys, and frogs all take an arrow to the knee (and until recently even dropped guts so I can fish in lakes!)
I don't particularly like cats IRL, but I am not cruel to them. Would be nice to shoot a few in game though.
I am sure some 'Cat lovers' (read: delusional people who have fallen for their evil charms) will disagree but studies have shown that when you die they will eat your face. (Dogs may just pine for the loss of their master for a few days before eating your face). It's all good.
Let me shoot cats (not Khajiit, I am happy to keep that to npc's and Cyrodil).
Thanks in advance.

Not denying that, but still no similarity. Your kids are part of you, I would die for my children, not for my dog.

Ah, but I know people who would die for their Dog, or their Cat.
But I take your point.
That's right a cat will eat a face but dogs eat their own crap ... any kind of poop really! I say give cats key to the city and let me shoot dogs! Yes, rabbits and rats CAN be pets, but they are more often food or pests in Western society. Dogs and cats are almost exclusively pets, and very beloved pets. I'm usually a very logical person, but am very close to my pets and find it emotionally distressing to see cats or dogs killed or tortured in movies. I understand that movies where that happens are usually dark and trying to illicit that response. I understand that, I'm not confusing real life with fantasy. I'm saying ZOS isn't going for a dark/horror feel where we see gore and beheadings and children and pets being killed.
You feel the same way watching this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLqIWg8KyCY
ESO is a digital cartoony game.
Edited: for faulty quote
Now you're just being obtuse for arguments sake. If you REALLY can't grasp what I'm saying, then I don't know what else to say.
I understand what you are saying, I just cant relate to it since to me ESO doesnt have anything to do with reality. I have killed other players in numeroues games, while been fortunate enough not to have seen it happen to anyone in real life and i would never ever want to see that. I find it both interesting and a bit wierd that people prefer killing other humanoids over animals in games.
If you find the movie clip being obtuse, ok im sorry you see it that way. I think the comparrison is striking and very well fit into this argumentation.
Ugh, okay, I'll bite. Other humanoids are hostile to you, just like Tom is hostile towards Jerry (the prey animal that gets the best of the cat that wants to eat him... in a comedic style that never results in Tom's death).
That's like saying a scene in a dark movie where someone is being graphically tortured is no different than the 3 Stooges. Context.
Cats in ESO are not hostile. They are just sitting there cleaning themselves.
Ok, but the rabbits and rats in the game doesnt do much of a fuss either except doing their thing running around?
Im sorry mate, but I dont find what you are saying making much sense in a game where there will be killable NPCs (justice system) that just is there doing nothing or why vampires get to feed off players/npcs either but where killing a cat or a dog is unthinkable, we can just agree to disagree on this I think
I think most people think of their cats and dogs more like children, so making them killable would fall more in line with making killable children in the game. I don't think I have to explain why that isn't a thing. And I agree that there is some gray area when drawing the line between killable and non-killable "critters." Make them all non-killable! I hate it when I accidentally ambush a rat leaving my actually enemy behind me winding up for an uppercut! LOL
Also, Ted Nugent was one of the reasons I started bow hunting. I had a long conversation with him and Bruce Dickinson on the whys and wherefores of hunting. There was JD involved.
@jelliedsoup damn it! Now I have to fall back on reason and argument again and not just comedic oversight!

In truth, I had a cat but it ran away. Must have been naked Fridays.

This isn't any more or less true than for dogs. Cite your sources.

...i mean, i don't think he would like to see me killing his brethren
You dont havto slay cats, but why not let us who want to? Sounds a bit selfish?
Oh wait you're serious aren't you?
Well, maybe they should be killable with the Justice System update (and may as well make the bounty for killing each 9999999g).
Ofc im serious, there is very little difference between a cat and a mudcrab really.I dont see why cat & dogs couldnt be part of cooking & alchemy recepies etc. Would make sense really.
LOL funny. Cat and Dog ... if you dont see a difference between them and a mudcrab, then you are Asian or need to see a doctor. In ES Cat and Dog arent there for food. Mudcrab yes.... And well. they have owners, so you should get killed before they get lower than 2 pts health.
I would like if they would allow me to kill you and eat your liver, because why not? you arent much different than a pig, or horse, or any other animal. Its true, just open yourself and see.
New potion from you is to turn into zombie for 30 min maybe? that would be fun.

All this talk of eating pets and children made me realize something, though. People will pay like 50 for a lobster dinner, but try to sell them on eating insects, and you're a 3rd world heretic.
Actually, i remembered killing cats in wow. I love my cat. I wouldnt condone animal abuse outside of a virtual setting. But to you guys poo pooing this idea, it was suprisingly guilt free. And the *WHUMP*"MEOW!!" Sound effect was very catchy and memorable.
*Edit-thinking about it further, its strange that the cat killing option brings out the sentimentality in people. By real life standards, we'd all be mass murderers with body counts in the thousands

yeah, pretty interesting people cant distinguish between what is a real living animal pet and a digital code in a game. Seems unhealthy to have such an emotional attachment to pixels in a game I would say.

I wouldnt mind if they added that either, just I am not asking for that feature and wouldnt be even slightly interested in it. But i dont oppose it.
