I see what you are saying, but this really boils down to an emotional issue, and you can't apply straight logic to it. Yes, rabbits and rats CAN be pets, but they are more often food or pests in Western society. Dogs and cats are almost exclusively pets, and very beloved pets. I'm usually a very logical person, but am very close to my pets and find it emotionally distressing to see cats or dogs killed or tortured in movies. I understand that movies where that happens are usually dark and trying to illicit that response. I understand that, I'm not confusing real life with fantasy. I'm saying ZOS isn't going for a dark/horror feel where we see gore and beheadings and children and pets being killed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YCN-a0NsNkThere's many slinkin' about in towns and just outside. Lizards, chickens, pygmy guar, monkeys, and frogs all take an arrow to the knee (and until recently even dropped guts so I can fish in lakes!)
I don't particularly like cats IRL, but I am not cruel to them. Would be nice to shoot a few in game though.
I am sure some 'Cat lovers' (read: delusional people who have fallen for their evil charms) will disagree but studies have shown that when you die they will eat your face. (Dogs may just pine for the loss of their master for a few days before eating your face). It's all good.
Let me shoot cats (not Khajiit, I am happy to keep that to npc's and Cyrodil).
Thanks in advance.

Now you're just being obtuse for arguments sake. If you REALLY can't grasp what I'm saying, then I don't know what else to say.

I'd whack their riders instead since it's not the poor horses fault but I can't.

I understand what you are saying, I just cant relate to it since to me ESO doesnt have anything to do with reality. I have killed other players in numeroues games, while been fortunate enough not to have seen it happen to anyone in real life and i would never ever want to see that. I find it both interesting and a bit wierd that people prefer killing other humanoids over animals in games.
If you find the movie clip being obtuse, ok im sorry you see it that way. I think the comparrison is striking and very well fit into this argumentation.

You dont havto slay cats, but why not let us who want to? Sounds a bit selfish?
Oh wait you're serious aren't you?
Well, maybe they should be killable with the Justice System update (and may as well make the bounty for killing each 9999999g).
Ofc im serious, there is very little difference between a cat and a mudcrab really.I dont see why cat & dogs couldnt be part of cooking & alchemy recepies etc. Would make sense really.
Because most people's RL cats and dogs are important members of their family and seeing people running around killing them in game would be just as distasteful as seeing people running around killing children. RL crabs are something you eat at the sea food restaurant. Pretty simple really. As a cat lover I'd like to thank ZOS for that!
I dont buy that. If people cant distinguish between whats real life and fiction they should perhaps find some other hobby and not be playing games or watch movies either really.
Just because it's fictional, and not real life, doesn't mean that it doesn't illicit an emotional response. That is the definition of good fiction. I'm not in favor of censorship, and of course there are going to be games and movies where children and animals are tortured and killed, but those are going to illicit a very different emotional response than what ZOS is going for in this game.
Yes, but we are talking about cat & dog npcs in a game here, last time i played skyrim i coud hunt for deer, rabbits and rats and what not. Rabbits are a common pet aswell as rats?

There was a point in this thread where I read @isengrimb16_ESO and tried to understand. Then he posted again, I tried, and again and I tried. Then again and oops.. Sarah Palin!
P.S. Squirrels taste great. Especially the grey imported ones as they have more meat.
Excellent, you CAN see the similarity!isengrimb16_ESO wrote: »Sarah Palin is a wolf-killing nutbar.

Ugh, okay, I'll bite. Other humanoids are hostile to you, just like Tom is hostile towards Jerry (the prey animal that gets the best of the cat that wants to eat him... in a comedic style that never results in Tom's death).
That's like saying a scene in a dark movie where someone is being graphically tortured is no different than the 3 Stooges. Context.
Cats in ESO are not hostile. They are just sitting there cleaning themselves.

You think having a bond with a pet is exclusive to PC gamers?

Hmm, I want guts off humanoid kills, after all, they do have intestines.

I dig you, and I saw what was below; that response really had no feeling for Western pet culture.
There are people out there who hate your pets, and would see them fed to beloved third world kids.

Ok, but the rabbits and rats in the game doesnt do much of a fuss either except doing their thing running around?
Im sorry mate, but I dont find what you are saying making much sense in a game where there will be killable NPCs (justice system) that just is there doing nothing or why vampires get to feed off players/npcs either but where killing a cat or a dog is unthinkable, we can just agree to disagree on this I think

And if ZOS was based in a third world country, making this game for the large target market of third world gamers, then I'm sure things would be very different.
