Nope not wrong. Steam was using over 100 meg when I ran it. ARC used 30 meg. I see no reason to run steam. I use raptr and that tracks all my games and i dont even have to add the game to it as it did it automatically. Raptr uses 25 megs.

Wrong. Steam is currently using 36 MB. That's inconsequential. Not to mention, the game sales on Steam MORE than compensate for any perceived "bloat".
Seriously, I picked up Borderlands 2 and EVERY LAST BIT of DLC for the game for $4.99 recently.
You just can't beat that with a stick.

I don't care what it is using on your computer. I know what it was showing on mine which means it is bloatware. Like I said I don't care about steam. It is useless and I don't care about all these stupid single player games. I have not played a single player games since 2001.

Get your system checked. This is with Steam running in the background. It's impact is minimal. The ESO launcher uses more resources than Steam.

I just bought the game on Steam. I think I deserve an account merge. I even sent a support ticket to them about it. I haven't gotten a response yet.

Were you able to use the steam version to log in to your old account?

    Still downloading.

Why wouldn't you be able to? ZOS already stated its the same launcher, same patcher, same everything just launches from steam. It should still bring up the same user/pass login.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the following post, it seems if we purchase a new copy on Steam, it may not be possible to log in to an existing account through Steam this way.

No, that means the key you get for your steam version you pay for, cannot be somehow linked to your old account, and your old account cannot be linked to the new. The same launcher runs no matter if you run it from steam or not was my takeaway from all the threads and dev posts on the matter, so you should be able to log in to both of your accounts you would now own, your original with its characters, or the new one with its new account you paid for and made. Its the same way other MMO's who sell through steam work. They use their own launcher that pops up your user/pass screen, but the key you get when you purchase it via steam cant be registered on your current account or anything.

I could be wrong but it would actually be more work for them to have to add in a flag on your account that says "steam user" and then support 2 different variations of login method/auth or the auth screen. The launcher is the same between them, that was stated clearly. Hopefully they will clear up the confusion but it sure seems silly to somehow lock a steam install to anything more then providing a legit key, because what if your friends come over and want to log in to check their ***, or whatever reasons someone might log in at a friends.

It's like Star Wars: The Old Republic all over again. Maybe the HERO engine is just cursed.

This game does not run on the Hero Engine.

Yes, actually it does. Or at least, it runs on an engine highly compatible with HERO. It uses the same assets and file structure, for example. It's also interesting that when you glitch under the world, or glitch into areas that aren't finished, the default textures and everything look pretty much identical to what you'd see in HERO engine.

I don't doubt they built on the source code, in the same way Bioware did. I just see all kinds of indications that it's not truly "built from the ground up" or anything.

Also, the whole HERO Engine logo that pops up when you start the game should tell you it served a greater purpose than simply "early testing and prototyping."

If you were to install ESO directly from ZOS it would take that long too, at least as of last Friday. I decided to install a second copy to access the EU server and it took me about 14 hours or so. It does the base install but then patches it to the current updates which seems to take forever.

The devs already popped into another thread regarding this some time back and clearly stated the hero engine was used during their initial ideas phases, but that the actual game is not built on it at all, but because they used it during their very first days as a base to test ideas with they have to include the logo. I'm sure with some searching you can find the comment about it.

    Pretty easy.

    hahaahahahahaha

this is exactly what is wrong with people. The word 'cancel' loses all value when people toss it around like this. No one in their right mind would cancel a game they already bought because you wont get a steam key much later then when it released, especially when back when it did release, and you bought the game, no mention of it going to steam was ever made. I mean c'mon.

That's funny. Myself and three other guildmates canceled our subs last night.

Every community is littered with pissed off people right now.

Guess you're just flat out wrong, huh.

When you dissapear from the forums I'll be wrong, until then I lump you into the big category of people here who act like they cancel every time something isn't exactly the way they want it, but mysteriously keep posting......myyssterioussllyyy...

Add it as a non-steam game and most of your complaints become invalid. Dog, trading cards, achievements, only things that doesn't resolve. You didn't know or care about them 2 days ago, you only care now because its something to throw a fit about. Its sad but soon, other retailers might get 'special bonus items' that you wont have access to either, are you going to throw a fit every time that happens and you didn't get the gamestop pet, or benefit or whatever, and act like its Zenimax throwing it in your face?

Ive had TESO in my steam list as a non-steam game since november of last November of last year when I got invited into beta. No issues to report, works great. Have overlay, see friends, blah blah blah blah blah.

Things I dont need: steam key.

If you don't need a Steam key, why are you in a thread labeled Steam keys?

Do you have nothing better to do with your life than sit in places where people are discussing things you don't care about?

That's actually kind of depressing. I hope your status improves, friend.

By your own logic, if you [snip] canceled, why the [snip] are you still here posting??? You shouldn't be here either!

It's hard to help people understand why you like something once they've already made up their mind to dislike it. I like Steam because it's convenient. I know that it's a form of DRM, but it's a form that actually helps me keep track of my games and use them on any computer. It saves my save files for me in many cases. On top of all that, I'm somewhat invested into the platform because of the connections I've made through it. I met my SO through it, along with several other now real-life friends. For me, my Steam friends are a community in the same way that your favorite guild on ESO may be for you.

I rarely ever buy any game that is not offered on Steam. I rarely ever pre-order as well. ESO was the exception. I broke both my rules for it. That's how much I care for it. Still I have many friends on the fence about this game. Providing current players with Steam copies helps win new players to the game. The only people who can post a review or in any way interact with the game are those who have a Steam copy. These tend to be people who just got the game. Having a more broad base of players feeding the reviews on there can help ensure they aren't entirely written by people who played the game for 10 minutes. Furthermore, I and other Steam users who have been playing the game since launch turn into free advertising for the game. When my friends see a notification that I'm playing the game, they may ask me questions about it. Seeing my consistent playtime may motivate them to purchase it as well. I have seen this happen many times with other games.

Will I unsubscribe from this game if I don't get a Steam Key? No.

Do I think it's good PR for Zenimax and Valve to give Steam Keys to current subscribers? Yes

We won't be providing Steam keys to current ESO players, as Steam utilizes ESO's launcher and patcher, as well as our billing and account systems. Instead, if you'd like to play via Steam, you can add the existing title to Steam.

To do this, head to "Games" option within Steam and select "Add Non-Steam Game to My Library." Then, select the checkbox next to "The Elder Scrolls Online" and click "Add Selected Programs."

Some way to treat the players who supported this game since early access.

Am I mad about missing the steam discount?

No. Stuff happens. It'll keep going down in price. I paid the higher fee to play the game a little earlier.

Am I mad about the dog exclusive?

No. I don't care about vanity items that much. I can see why others would be upset though.

Am I mad we aren't getting free steam keys, or at least the ability to link our old account with a steam key?

Absolutely. Considering console players will be getting free transfers, what is the difference between transferring to that platform vs transferring steam? It should be even easier on a technical level.

So what if Steam will take a cut of your sales? I'm going to hazard a guess and say Sony and Microsoft will be taking their cut as well.

I'm sure a lot of us would be willing to shell out $18 bucks to cover the 30% just to link our account even though that'd be more than meeting you halfway.

On the plus side they will be making a boatload of money on the new subs that Steam will provide them!

    Why the fixation on Steam?

To me, Steam is the obnoxious 'internet required' DRM I had to tolerate in order to play Skyrim, why would anyone voluntarily use their crap simply to post screenshots in a forum?

I never installed Skyrim after buying it because of that.

Yes, I know this is an on-line game but by using them you're encouraging their obnoxious brand of DRM for non-internet games.

You do not need internet to play skyrim, you simply set steam to run in offline mode. I play skyrim all the time from my steam console when not hooked up to the internet.

People may not have liked being forced to use Steam for Skyrim at first, but honestly for DLC Steam handled it great. Steam made it easy to find the content and install it and use it. I don't think anyone can argue about that. If Steam could use the same sort of integration for addons that would be awesome. I currently use Minion which is alright but there is no reason Steam couldn't manage it instead.

Have you ever had a major issue with a Steam or second party company like Steam? If not, let me just give you a heads up; Steam isn't responsible for ANYTHING, according to their policies that you sign when you download it. I have downloaded games that were fully released, completed, and were unplayable by about 75% of the community or more due to problems on the game or Steam's side of things, and they reply with "Sorry, no money back, no customer satisfaction allowed here, have a nice day...".

I don't even think you can get support through the developer of the game either, as I have tried and they told me because I bought it through steam, they could not help me.

Screw Steam. I like being able to call customer support of the game directly and actually get results.

So you got some "cool" pet because you used Steam? ZOMG, game breaking!! I'll put my stock in Zmax before I would Steam just because of a lousy pet.

Steam is simply a hub, nothing more. You will still have access to all the content etc as Steam players.
