To do this, head to "Games" option within Steam and select "Add Non-Steam Game to My Library." Then, select the checkbox next to "The Elder Scrolls Online" and click "Add Selected Programs."

Thanks. Good bye, subscription. Good luck with your game, and I hope you learn how to treat your customers with a bit more respect in the future.

Its worked like this for a long time, my friend Lowbei has his steam setup to do this.

There's no steam integration here, they're just using steam to sell the game. What's the obsession with having a steam key?

Stream trading cards, tracking. That's all there is to it.

The entitlement in regards to this is hilarious though.

Buying game time cards. How do you buy a Game Card from Steam for this game if you can't link account?

    Within; Without.

I understand that people are annoyed about not getting the dog that steam customers get. But I don't understand why people want have their cpu usage increased by having to run steam in the background while playing ESO. Steam does use memory that could be going to ESO.

    Why the fixation on Steam?

To me, Steam is the obnoxious 'internet required' DRM I had to tolerate in order to play Skyrim, why would anyone voluntarily use their crap simply to post screenshots in a forum?

I never installed Skyrim after buying it because of that.

Yes, I know this is an on-line game but by using them you're encouraging their obnoxious brand of DRM for non-internet games.

There are trading cards, an overlay, achievement tracking (if supported), community groups, community chat, IM with friends in other Steam games, Steam community forums, Steam streaming, and various other community functions.

A lot of us have friends on Steam, and like consolidating our library in one place.

Some of these can be gained through adding non-Steam games. Some cannot.

It's personal preference, and not giving us an option to adhere to our preference is an indication that the developers care more about bringing in new customers than they do about taking care of current customers.

If you disagree, feel free to just leave a snarky one liner like the rest of the people in this thread, and enjoy your momentarily feeling of superiority.

Doesn't change the fact that this decision is inconsiderate to current subs.

Also a shame. Please reconsider this, had this option been available at launch, I'd have ordered through Steam in the first place.

    ^This

There wasn't even the slightest mention of a possible Steam release. Other Publishers like FC did the same after they went F2P several years after release with a Cape that only new Users via Steam would receive.

After only 3 months you are already giving a sign that you care more for new users than your existing subscribers and fans that pre ordered your game.

I also don't see the Problem with Steam using the regular ESO launcher/patcher and billing/account system. All that is needed are Steam Keys to activate the game on Steam. Nobody is asking for Keys to register a second account.

Funny. I just added ESO to Steam yesterday before I even knew it was going to be available. I just wanted it to show up as me playing it to my friends so they wouldn't think I vanished into a black hole. I just added as a non-steam game.

You would do well to remember that how you feel about something does not invalidate the way others do. The simplest solution here is for you to just go do something else, since you obviously don't care about the situation, and let those of us who do let our voices be heard.

Otherwise, you're just wasting everyone's time interjecting in a situation where you have absolutely no vested interest.

Unless you're just here for the attention, which I posit may be the circumstance. In which case, good job. You wasted my time. Congratulations. :/

Nope.. the simplest solution, would be for someone to take that butthurt, and quit like they said they were going to.

Yes, I'm sure when they decided to put the game on Steam, losing customers was what they were going for.

In my case, I'd be willing to buy the game again to get a Steam key, but there is currently no way to link it to your existing account.

This really sucks. I want the integration of Steam, like total time played and such. I tried adding ESO to steam and it never says I'm in-game when I am. There's no reason not to give us keys other than it would require effort.

Well, Steam barely does a thing to a modern PC. Virtually no difference.

Okay, then how did Uber Entertainment swing it without paying for keys for their backers? I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm just saying other companies have given steam keys to customers who already had the game and it didn't seem to cost them anything (at least nobody ever said or implied it). Plus Planetary Annihilation had a very small budget, so I don't see how they would have paid for them anyway.

If there is a reason they cannot, they need to tell us. Directly.

Take a page from the Wildstar developers Carbine and just TELL us why they made the decision.

Strange. My Steam client shows as 'in non-Steam game The Elder Scrolls Online' on my friends list. Perhaps you should try to use the Steam Beta client? That's what I am using. Not sure, but it definitely does show for me.

Valve is usually the good guy of gaming companies, they will give stuff away for free if it's to please their customers, and i'm pretty sure that Valve and Zenimax are already pretty close to let something like this happen.
