SgtPepperUK✭✭✭Exclusive items now are a way to draw people into the game and hopefully keep the population growing but people seem quite short-sighted about it.
I suspect most of the sales ZOS gained last weekend were due to the price and the exposure it got on Steam.
And yes, as an MMO developer you want to draw new people in but, at the same time, you want to retain as much of your existing playerbase as possible. Simply replacing old players with new ones is not growth. It's stagnation.
And if you lose more players than you gain it becomes decay.
Whilst this issue may cause very few people to quit at this stage it does raise some quite legitmate questions about ZOS' long term strategy and whether they can sustain a subscription model.
I really hope they can, I'd love nothing more than to see ZOS stick the middle finger up to all those who sincerely believe this game will be forced to go F2P in a few months, to those people who've categorically said they will wait for it to do so before they will play it.randolphbenoit wrote: »Just wish ZEN/ZoS would come to this thread and explain WHY they do this to loyal players?
Sadly, a week on and all we seem to have had is a vague statement about a variant pet that we will somehow get (or be offered if they decide to make it a cash shop item) at some undetermined point in the future.
I'd really like to hear their honest thoughts on this matter and their reasons for not extending this to existing subscribers.4 -

I agree, but compare them to ESO pets. ESO pets are boring. They do nothing. The dog barks and so far it's the most I've seen a pet do. Even monkeys just screech once in a while and that's it.0 -

Humanistic✭✭✭✭I don't mind paying extra for things like this - it's my hobby. The thing that I don't like about this is that you can't combine the key with a main account. You have to make a completely different account, and the dog applies to that. So essentially, to get the dog as a current subscriber, you have to have two accounts.
I don't like that, but if you're trying to make money above all else, who really gives a *** what the customer thinks.6 -

I don't think this would have been such a big deal if they actually released companions at the start instead of adding little by little so far apart from release. Most Vets already did every thing, not much point to getting a dog to do the same quests all over again.0 -

We are suppose to be able to summon any monster,critter ect in game as a combat pet with the new spellcrafting ? Why not just wait 1-2 months for the combat pet0

aisriyth_ESO✭✭✭I am VERY dissapointed in Zenimax with the Wolfhound debacle. I make a habit of being one of the pioneers to a new mmo because I am a hardcore collector and I usually don't like missing out on all the pre-order goodies and early access bonus.
Sadly, this is the first time in my MMO playing career that waiting would of actually gotten me more benefits then being day 1 or earlier player.
Hopefully Zenimax realizes how badly it was handled and either let vets buy a steam key to at least add on top of their account which albeit it inelegant will at least satisfy a majority of us. Or at least hopefully no contract is in place and the actually whiterun wolfhound can be put on the cash store in addition to the riften wolfhound.4 -

Flame atronach ≠ doggy. I want a nice pet that I can keep out when I'm in banks and other interiors without bothering people too much. They did respond to say they are not giving this gray dog , but they will add a brown one eventually.
Which was their try to shut us up , considering how they tried that around page 17 of the thread , you can see how well it worked out.
