Yeah, and if they do that guess what people will say? OMG WHaaaaaaa! ESO IS A CASH SHOP RIPOFF! ESO IS PAY TO WIN! ESO ATE MY BABY! Just look at this thread and imagine the rage if they offer "paying" customers something in the shop that others got for free? It might cause a thermonuclear Internet meltdown.
Honestly, these companies should just stop offering "exclusive" perks to anyone. Give discounts on price or something but don't ever offer any in-game excluslive to anyone that everyone can't also have. Problem solved.
I doubt anyone would say those things

People were saying stuff like that before the game was released. One poster, after a few dozen pages of elaborate reasoning why ESO was going to be buy to play, posted the day they announced the sub plan, immediately shifted to a cash shop pay to win free to play rant.
After all the ranting about the incentive white imperial edition horse, they offered a palomino horse. Didn't stop the ranting, but some players did get a nice beige colored horse that's different from the others. So now there's a brown dog that will be available at some point.
About the only thing I'd be annoyed at would be if they added the *real* senche and senche-raht to the game with the possibility of using them as a "battle-cat". [If you read the description of the senche/senche-raht, they aren't the same as the ones in the game. The ones in the game fit the description of pahmar/pahmar-raht; they look like tigers.]

Not so long ago a subscription based game with a cash shop was considered stepping over a line and double-dipping, with most people being of the opinion that you either charge a subscription or be F2P with a cash shop.

There's a reason Zenimax is doing both, it's because despite the "popularity" of the game, ESO is still sinking. People feel comfortable with it because they constantly encounter other players, not really considering that there is only one server. You don't find it even remotely curious that Zenimax absolutely refuses to show their numbers as far as sales and current subscriptions while most would be posting their numbers in huge, glittery letters and using them as a means to draw in more players. Zenimax needs the money from the cash shop because they don't have enough subscriptions to meet their expectations and suckers like myself are willing to pay extra if it means getting a vanity item and supporting the game companies I promote. Zenimax... is not one of those companies anymore, though I might still buy the brown dog just so I have a dog in game because I'm a really big dog person.
People can quote the whole "770k subscriptions" article all they want, but even those guys refuse to give an answer as to where they got their numbers. For all you know they were either payed to support Zenimax or they pulled the number out of their hats.
I honestly suspect that Zenimax did have a prepared answer for this whole debate, because I don't know anyone who would make it through business school and be stupid enough to do something like this. My honest opinion is that they needed the sale enough that they were willing to risk royally pissing off a huge chunk of their supportive player base if it meant they could reel in a few extra players. There's only one reason you make a marketing decision that you know will likely cost you the support of many of the players who have stood by you until now, and that's desperation.
For me, the problem isn't the exclusive content, it's the fact that I was told there would be no exclusive content and now I'm being told I'll never get Steam integration or a pet because they're exclusive to new players.
@smeeprocketnub19_ESO if your parenting skills are on par with your debating skills, that's probably a good thing.
And to think all Zos had to do was give some other dog or stupid pet to existing players (earned or not) and there never would have been an uproar. How hard could it be. I'll never be able to figure out the logic nor judgement of this company.

They did, do none of you people read? There will be another dog soon at some point, it will be a different color.

The thread won't die until we get our dog! I will personally revive the thread every day if that's what it takes. Why won't this thread die?

I don't mind when consoles get a little special things IF the platform has to be segregated from PC. As long as we aren't giving preferential treatment to certain owners of a copy than someone else with a same copy. IE: two pc players, one newer than the first.
As a separate point. I do not believe the Spider[full time] or Monkey[open stress test] pets should be put up for sale at any time. They were for the 2 levels of beta testers only and that is not something you can pay for. Nor should people who did not patiently survive the stress tests get access to them. Trust me, we earned it.
The imp edition pets come with Imp edition, as it is still available no issue there.
So the Guar and Wolfhound are the only ones up for sale. Let us be real if you buy the guar you get the guar pet, not very exclusive. This whole thread is about the steam wolfhound and discount.

It is a fair point the consoles players will never be on the pc servers as it stands now. Might as well let them be, but the same debate will pop up if they give them something unique all the same.
Gamers, especially TES ones, just love collecting rare/unique stuff. Myself included; I do not like guars and I do not want a stuffed one, but a part of me wants the digital content even if it is just a wasted inventory slot on one of my builds.
I feel like Pre-Order/Deluxe edition of any game should be the same as a "Season Pass" to all new content. Too many game makers are milking people for little add-on packs that probably should have just come with the game at release.
In the case of ESO as a player who Pre-Ordered the Imperial edition directly from elderscrollsonline.com I would like the option to get any new content without hoops or fees. I think I have proving my customer and gamer loyalty plenty at this point.
If they have to make it exclusive they already have two levels of game editions and they can always hold back from the standard edition owners to encourage the imperial upgrade.
