Any Way for Existing Customers to get the Whiterun Wolfhound?

    Very disappointing, ZOS.
Why can't I get it? I preordered the game and already paid more, than they did. And now they have nicer stuff? That I can't get at all? You reward them for playing less, than I do?
    Very disappointing.

I find this thread odd. Do those of you demanding the dog do the same in real life? I.e. run back to every retailer running a promotion for some product you bought a while back and insist on getting whatever was included in said promotion??? I mean c'mon, for cryin' out loud!

I'm sure we would, under the same circumstances. People sure love to use the whole "promotions happen all the time" debate, which is fine, but it doesn't work here.

First, we were promised before the game was even released that we would have access to all content in the game. This was their entire reason for justifying the subscription model, and if they keep doing things like this, it negates their entire argument.

Second, this isn't like other promotions. If I bought an Xbox One, and later, it went on sale, with a free game for everyone who bought during the sale period, I wouldn't go to Microsoft and demand to get that extra game. However, what if the game can only be played on systems bought during the sale? You can't transfer it to an existing system, you can't buy the system and sell the game on eBay, and likewise, you can't buy the game off of someone else. I think many people would be pretty darn miffed.

It's why a lot of companies have to offer price match guarantees.

People get (justifiably?) upset when they realize they dropped their hard-earned cash, and then someone else came along and randomly got a better deal due to a promotion.

In this case, at the end of the day, giving everyone that ordered at full price the dog pet would cost ZoS nothing, and would go a long way to helping with the heartburn about Steam.

I only purchased the standard edition. But I'd upgrade to the Imperial Edition in a heartbeat and trade my silly ol' monkey (that I haven't even bothered to use since I don't care) just for a mangy old mutt to be at my side.

I don't like these exclusive things either. Even if you have to pay separate in game or in the ESO store, it should be an option.

Ideally though, to keep as far away from the dreaded pay to win line as humanly possible, you should be able to obtain ALL content through quests or in game purchases from vendors. This isn't F2P (yet) after all.

All that said, didn't Zeni say they would continue to add pets in future updates as we went along?

I also would love to have a few options to recruit followers, but that's a tale for another thread.

Very much this, I honestly could care less about the fact it was cheaper. Sales happen all the time on steam. It's just the dog that causes me lamentation.

Name one company that has a price-match guarantee which extends 3 months from the date of purchase. Or a price-match guarantee that gives you access to the free bobbleheads they include in a seasonal promotion down the line.

I'll save you the work: no one does that. No one. Because it's a silly business practice, and they shouldn't have to offer you bonuses simply to stay subscribed. Do you like the game? Yes? Great! Enjoy yourself. No? Then cancel your subscription, because a dog isn't going to make it better for you.

This ... not sure I actually care about having another pet; but this seems like just a slap in the face for early adopters. Early adopters get slapped all the time but this seems particularly needless and avoidable.

Rude? Yes. Inconsiderate? Yes. A major concern of mine in this game? No. Having said that .. they just need to give us all product codes so we can activate on steam. It's not that big of a deal now but I am going to be pissed when i start losing out on steam achv, cards, etc. If they never do achv and stuff for steam no biggie.

edit: either way I can't say I would quit the game because of it .. I would just grumble about it to my friends.

I have no problems with the discounted price on Steam, and don't mind not having access to the game through that platform. What I do mind is that exclusive content is being doled out to new players, and early adopters are left stranded. We who played the betas. We who signed up early. We who endured bugged quests even after official launch. We who were locked out of Cyrodiil for weeks after patch 1.2.3. Would it be that hard to offer the dog to new Steam accounts, yet allow older players to buy it, even if for a large-ish amount of in-game gold?

I honestly don't care that much about the pet, but as an early subscriber I feel ZOS are taking me for granted.

How about this compromise: Instead of giving the wolfhound to all veterans, they should give veterans the power to kill wolfhounds. That way everyone in this thread can brutally hunt down and kill all wolfhounds in bitter jealous rage, until all newcomers have been deprived of any reason to feel special. :p

Most of us have read that. I still rather of paid $30-40 for the whiterun wolfhound then $10 for a brown one... that being said... i would buy both anyways if given the chance.

I am very much a completionist when it comes to pets. I understand for many the pet was irrelevant or they don't care at all, and that is fine. However, to some of us it really sucks not even having had the chance to acquire it for our main account.

That would likely cost them money...granted it would be to steam's advantage because they get to up sell products through the steam engine. But just giving away a steam license for EOS doesn't seem like a zero balance action.

I would think it would be fair/reasonable if they just charged a small fee to cover the cost to transfer the license.

If it makes you all feel better...anyone on steam that upgraded to the imperial during this offer got screwed a pet. Despite being clearly advertised for the imperial edition (which the upgrade is called)

you had to buy it whole with the game as your first purchase.

    kinda scuzzy to do this.

anyway...that dog is so annoying in game..id never use it.

    Yeap.

Before this i would consider the game so/so and advise any TES fan to buy it , while if the person dont like the lore much , better save it for later.

Now i just tell everyone the multiple problems with the few positives , does not solve the issue , but who knows , maybe if one day it may change something.

I've never understood why anyone would just cling to a game while trashing it to others. Some people just seemed to be fueled purely on spite. Either you enjoy the game, or you have as thing for playing games you hate. The second one is bad for the happiness of others playing the game, if not for yourself. But generally spiteful people are so obsessed with their own unhappiness that they just don't care.

To all you spiteful people, I hope your play experience makes you miserable. Since that's clearly what you want.

Also, for the love of god, stop saying "could care less", it's couldn't. It doesn't even make sense if you use could.

I'm annoyed about this as well. The crab and the nibenay (whatever that weird irritating little mutant thing is called) are hideous and are not a PET in any sense. One is dinner, the other the stuff of creepy nightmares. We bought FIVE Imperial Editions and we pre-ordered 4 of them...and I can't have a damn white wolfhound? That's some pretty crappy treatment of their customers right there.

Er...not to derail, but Nibenay is part of the full name for the mudcrab. It's a Nibenay Mudcrab (from the Nibenay Valley in Cyrodiil, I believe). If I am correct, the "irritating little mutant thing" is called a Scuttler, and it is a Morrowind/Black Marsh staple, I think, as far as pets go. I actually adore my mudcrab and scuttler, and also my beta monkey. But I'm big on the in-game creatures, so...yeah. I would also like the guar pet, I just haven't been able to purchase the plush yet.

All that said, I still dislike the way this whole situation was handled, and I dislike the concept of exclusive content for "new players only." It doesn't make sense to me to exclude your long-term investors. My family pre-purchased two Imperial editions, one physical and one digital. And the concept of "sorry, but you joined first, so you can't have this content" seems awfully backwards to me.

Not going to quit over it, but I'm not going to forget it either. And I'll be looking out for future indications of disregard toward "pre-existing customers."

Sadly, this is the first time in my MMO playing career that waiting would of actually gotten me more benefits then being day 1 or earlier player.

Yes, you missed out on a benefit of a pet. You know what you DID get though? Several months of in-game time more than those who wait to buy now. Plus the everlasting ability to say, "I was there." I'd say that carries as much weight as some dumb dog does.
