Any Way for Existing Customers to get the Whiterun Wolfhound?

ZOS can clearly see people really want it, so after the promo is over, they will just add a different color wolfhound to the cash shop and everyone will be happy.

You don't devise a promotion with a limited edition bonus and immediately tell everyone else they will be able to get something like it very soon. This is marketing basics.

I don't give a *** about the dog. I want to play ESO through my Steam account. It's bull *** that they can't merge accounts. We will be using the exact same servers, and they already plan on doing this for consoles.

Agreed, all they have managed to do by riling everyone up is break what little trust most loyal members had in the company after the past couple of months. I am sure plenty will go for the pet for some ridiculous amount of money same as the horse that is there currently in comparison tot he imperial upgrade. But it has been a dirty tactic at a VERY bad time in the games development. When a fairly large amount of your most loyal subscribers have already lost a lot of faith in you, you absolutely do not push them even farther away. Based on what I have seen today there were a lot more subscribers who were losing faith in the devs then I thought. 13 pages of anger and hurt over just a vanity pet kind of sums that up.

You don't do this at all actually. Whoever buys the imperial edition on Steam gets more than anyone who already bought it, unless the dog is replacing the mudcrab.

The imperial edition on Steam should be the imperial edition that was already offered, otherwise you wind up with pissed off imperial edition owners.

If the Steam edition comes with both vanity pets then all current imperial edition owners should get the dog mailed to them. If the dog replaces the mudcrab well then the issue is a little more complex, but the fact remains that the Steam edition should not differ in any way.

To add to this according to what I have read today the dog is in addition to the mudcrab, they get both.

Whiners. Other games have done the same.

SWG later on had more versions. One version you got the BARC speeder and another gave a walker. The only way to get them was buying a new retail version or for very expensive credits from a player.

About the guar: If you want the pet then buy the plushe. It is a great idea. WoW done the same with their megablocks. You also got ingame items by buying the megablocks.

About the dog: If it was a cat i understand, but who wants a stinking dog. They smell. And so what is a steam player gets it. All you can do ingame is laugh at them they had to start up steam to play the game.

TESO is a great game. But has the biggest whiner player base. If someone has something special they all want it for free too :*( boohoo

Is the Pet bound to the new account? I seem to recall Ring's of Mara being sold or maybe just thought I saw it. If I can make the new account and just trade the content, isn't that a solution to all these whine fests?

All vanity pets so far have been bound - and so have the Rings of Mara, unless they bugged for somebody. I have to assume this wolfhound will also be bound.

The only image I have seen of the pet is this, from ESO's official announcement. Not sure if this is just a promotional image, or what it really does look like in-game.

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Good lord all this over a silly bunch of pixels that aren't real?

I've been with the game since beta. I don't need another virtual (and might I add completely cosmetic and does absolutely nothing) pet taking up another inventory slot.

It's a limited promotion item to welcome new people into the game. A bunch of pixels that equate to nothing in real life. If they were giving away a free dog, sure then I may be slightly miffed. But they're not. It's a do nothing vanity item.

    Come on, people!

This whole game is pixels that aren't real, genius. The fact that you're on these forums tells me that holds at least some value to you.

While I seem to be one of the most opposed to this dog pet, I do need to point out that new customers haven't always been getting more than the current one. There's the beta monkey and the preorder scuttler, that a lot of current subs do have. Two exclusive pets we already have, compared to one exclusive pet new people are getting. Comparing new subbers to current subbers who did not have beta/preorder... yes, the more pets thing stands.

But the problem, imho, is that it's a DOG. Arguably the best vanity pet so far (though I know some like the monkey!) and the fact that so many people have been asking for a dog from the start. Creating a desired vanity pet and then giving it to someone else kinda sucks.

ZOS learned a valuable lesson today.

Their Subscribers will cry over virtually anything.... and I mean that..even over a virtual dog...They'll cry over it..

    I mean..this isn't even 1st world problems...this is 1st world nerd problems..

They learned that they are noobs at this mmo selling thing. Tomorrow they should reverse course and say something like, "We apologize for slighting our existing base of loyal Elder Scrolls Online customers. Starting today, we will make the pet available to any currrent subscriber for the low, low cost of $40! Yes, you too can own a Whiterun hound!! This is a limited time offer so click NOW on the link below to order!!!"

Hey yall, I just wanted to throw my voice into the mix. So, if I read correctly, this is the situation:

I beta tested and preordered the physical collector's (imperial) edition of this game. Payed full price of course. I got the vanity Items that go along with it.

I was kinda fine with the digital CE not being limited, mainly because it includes a playable race (bold move by the way). Of course I'm also fine with prices dropping over time.

Now they offer a new vanity item to current buyers of the very same edition I preordered, one that many would argue is more desirable. An item that is bound and exclusive to that edition, so I couldn't even rebuy it and apply the code to my current account.

What do I think about this? Well, I'm in a bit of disbelieve that ZOS would be willing to tick off their current customers like this, that nobody (nobody important that is) saw how this might be a bad idea.

How should the issue be resolved? All CE holders should automatically receive this new vanity item free of charge. All SE subscribers should be given the option of buying a differently colored version in the store for a moderate fee.

It is ok and expected that special digital content is exclusive to earlier (especially preorder and limited CEs) versions of the game and cannot be aquired later on. That's even kinda cool and a little bonus to early supporters of the game. "Where did you get that monkey?" is something one might hear in a year or two.

It is not ok to offer new vanity items to new customers and withold access to existing customers. Why? Because it creates the mood you see in this thread.

Rethink your position on this ZOS.

This is the part that makes me the most concerned. The fact that not one person with authority thought about this, or worse, that they did and waved it away as a non-issue really makes me question where we are headed.

It's one thing to say vanity pet is vanity pet, it's another to say that ticking off your loyal base is worth some extra income on a self-manufactured problem.

As far as I can tell you've read correctly. I completely agree with you on this. Your proposed solution is the one I personally prefer, though I would even be content with CE holders needing to pay a small fee for it in the cash shop. I understand the idea of a promotion - it's only the exclusivity of it that bothers me. That and the whole give-your-current-subbers-the-shaft thing.
