Do you think things have gotten too Loud and Flashy?

I just wanted to add that I think the recall animations are the worst offenders because players tend to use them in crowded spaces like banks and writ/quest turn-ins. So you'd be doing some banking, when your entire screen is suddenly overtaken by an enormous flash of blinding pink as the player next to you teleports away. I find that especially unpleasant.

First mount I found really disturbing was the Void-thingy with it's black circles popping everywhere, just like a graphical bug. Luckily, most players that got them don't seem to play the game anymore or switched to another mount.
The Coldharbor Recall might stay a little longer, though, and I wish they hadn't brought that into the game. Just like all those monster transformations. I'd be fine with those if they were connected to the law system like necromancy skills are, but now I see towns populated with monsters, while casting skeletons causes a big nah-nah. It's a childish route they've taken with their crates and it undoubtedly destroys immersion.

Out of combat I don't care much, but in combat I would prefer to actually see indicators of mechanics, not my teammates glowy weapon.

Addons like hide group were developed for a reason.

I like things that glow, so a lot of the mounts people may find offensive appeal to me, but things have gotten a little absurd. I keep wishing they'd do less with the mounts' cluttery VFX lately. Floating orbs and sigils, stuff like that. I'd like to actually see the animal. Instead of a bunch of floating magical hoohoo I'd just prefer a nice, soft ambient light.

I really don't like the overly grandiose recall actions. I have the purple orb one. I used it exactly once and said, "nope." It's way, way too much.

And I also haven't enjoyed seeing tons of various sized Molag Bal running around. 😳

I'm kind of between a Yes and Other here. Flashy magical spells, summons, mounts, etc definitely do fit in the TES world in specific situations/thing.

If we're talking about how the TES world should ''realistically'' look in the context of ESO, the crazy flashy things shouldn't ''realistically'' be as commonplace as they are when walking around in ESO; the problem is that everyone is playing their own characters that, for a lot of players, are either: very powerful and famous and would be doing all they're doing realistically with the flashy stuff, or: they just aren't RPers so they use whatever fun stuff they like for any other reason.

For me, all of my characters are not crazy strong, special, unique, etc; in my headcanon for them, none of them have done any of the major questlines or know any of the famous historical figures personally like Abnur Tharn, etc etc. But, I know that a lot of other players do make their OCs in the opposite way. So it feels weird to me to want to restrict them from getting flashy things that fit their powerful, flashy characters.

There's also the sensory aspect though. Personally I am sensitive healthwise to flashing lights because of having a severe case of Lyme disease in the past, so I'm kind of stuck with some sensory issues.

I kind of rambled here, but basically I think there can be a balance with toggles for toning down strong flashy effects for both RP and health reasons for players.

With scribing and colors, I get to where I cannot see effects on myself and other players. Just a big purple blob. I'm going to have to lean on addons more now. Would hate to be on a system where I couldn't

If you know of an addon that turns that stuff off, please share!

Nothing that turns that off. I just meant ones that give me info I want in icons rather than try to see the effects

Yep, hate most of that stuff. Would love options to turn of several things.
I remember when the awful st. Patricks day cowboy hats (or what it was), started in the crown store. I almost quit then and there, it bongled the immersion for me with such lore-unfriendly items. But the difference since then and now, where the mount summons, and character stuff with flashing lights and even loud noises - it's so obnoxious I don't even have the words for that stuff... Never thought I'd feel the "I don't want to leave my home cause there's people" to a game as well as to real life :'(

On some things. Every new mount that is summoned in a blaze of glory is a mount I neither want to own or see appear next to me. Most of the other stuff is OK. went by a whatevertheycallthedolmenthingsintheweald and there are lots of fireworks and tornados over quite a large area. But it still wasn't overly done.

I don't think I would bother venturing near one with less than 50 others, but it was ok 'flashy' wise.

I'm wondering who the target audience is for this trend to being more loud and flashy, in particular the recalls. I've compared these to cartoons because they are also loud and flashy, but cartoons are that way to catch and keep the attention of young children. So I don't understand who they are targeting with these features.

I think that depends on why things are getting louder and flashier.

Are we getting loud and flashy designs because that's what the developers want to make?

      or

Are we getting loud and flashy designs because that's what the player that spend lots of $ on Crowns want and the $ they spend covers the cost of significant sections of development?

It's more like marvel universe than pre-ESO TES at this point.

With that said, according to every discord voice chat I'm in, the coldharbour recall animation is the best thing to happen to eso, so it is what it is. It's not going to change.

Yes. And it's worse in PvP because the effects bug and stay on you until you relog...or visit cheesemonger's and frantically press E (all while wondering why you're playing a game that makes this the solution).

People will enjoy what they enjoy and as this is an MMO I'm fine with people flexing and showing off their shinies. I'm not self-important enough to push my preferences and desires onto others so I just let them enjoy their shinies, let them play how they want to play and just go about my game.

Do I find certain things ostentatious and gaudy? Of course, but that's not a new thing to ESO or to life in general. People have been buying Supercars, Flashy clothes and other status symbols outside of the game for as long as those have existed and I'm not going to begrudge them their toys.

Edit: For those who have genuine health-related issues with the bright lights and such, I genuinely empathize and hope that some accommodations can be made for those who, I apologize for the use of the word, suffer from this.

I only like normal mounts and armour so none of that flashy stuff for me. Same for the majority of skins, you won't find me wearing one.

However, I don't think there should be a toggle, as the whole point of fashion is that others can see it.

I think the only acceptable toggle would be when the owner of the flashy stuff can switch it on or off (like the mount options for speed, stamina etc), instead of a universal one.

Is that so? I dress my characters and assign mounts to them the way I imagine them roleplay-wise, and I do it because this is the way I want to see them, both for reasons of immersion and also beause it fits my personal aesthetic preferences. What others think about it doesn't matter to me and I certainly don't care for admiration from random people on the internet. Of course, you do yours, etc, but I'm quite sure that there any many players who use these things mainly for themselves, not for others.
