One of the things I loved most when I came to ESO was how much more "realistic" it seemed, especially when compared to the very cartoony character models of WoW. But there has been a trend toward more loud and flashy effects and I find it really ruining the ambience for me.

I wish at the very least we could get a toggle to not be subjected to hearing "dolmens" and other flashy effects every time we are in town.

Crown store items like mounts yes like the Spellscar Quasigriff.

but not a lot of loud and flashy stuff in the new chapter as far as i have seen.

    edited to add:
i would like an option to turn off the visual and noise of Mount Effects and Customised Actions, no clue if it's possible but it would be nice not to witness it.
some arms packs have some painful effects too like Prior Thierric's purple flash

    To each their own.

I'm sure the flashy stuff sells. If someone likes it, they can use it. I tend not to, but there are some times that I think it's fun or thematic.

If someone's doing something lore-unfriendly around... well, I can wait until they're gone or do something else on a different character. But really the only time I even care about other people around is when I'm screenshotting for my stories (which is getting overwhelming and I don't do much anymore), and then I really don't want anyone around.

But for just standard running around? Do whatever makes you feel good.

I tend to find myself playing ESO, wishing it were a mainline Single-player RPG, instead of the MMORPG it is. It's even more depressing knowing that when TES: VI finally comes out, it'll probably be way too visually demanding for my hardware.

I just wanted ESO to be an online Skyrim. :'(

I find the big purple light to be annoying as it takes up the entire screen. I don't know where it's from, but I think it's related to traveling by wayshrine or warping.

While I understand the feelings of those that do not like the flashy mounts and animations, it just doesn't bother me personally.

I do think they should come out with some kind of toggle to turn off the teleport animations and other custom animations for people who don't want to see them, though. Before they implemented any of these fancy custom animations, they should have thought of a way to provide a base game override people could toggle on if they didn't like seeing them.

As far as I'm concerned, though, I like seeing the flashy, glowy, sparkly things. I just enjoy them, largely because I find them humorous. A lot of them are absurd and I openly acknowledge that, but I don't want them to stop making them. The free spicy-buffalo-wing flaming camel we just received is one of my favorite mounts I've gotten in a while, honestly, because it makes me laugh.

I've just played so many different MMO's throughout my life that I think I've become a bit desensitized to flashy animations, to be honest. Nothing phases my immersion in any of the games I play any more and I probably have mental barriers made of reinforced steel when it comes to ignoring the presence of other people, so I might not be the best person to answer this question.

Either way, I do understand how others feel (I used to feel the same way, a long, long time ago about other games) and I think it would benefit ESO to have toggles.

With that being said, I would like to see some more lore-appropriate mounts. There are ways to make things look cool that don't involve them going flash, boom, explode, or fizz-pop-sparkle. (For example, the sovngarde mounts look amazing when they glitch out and the glow is gone from them. They look very Nordic, and I wish we had versions of them that didn't have a glow all over.)

I really liked the Order of the Lamp mounts in the most recent crates- they were glowy, but they weren't as overbearing as some mounts could be. I'm hoping they do a few more "knightly" recolors of the armored horse in that crate, without any glowy bits.

So...I don't want to see glowy mounts go away, and I love them to bits, but I would like them to balance it out with some more subdued mounts.

Some of the flashy things at least make sense lore-wise as magic. Others don't at all and are just for ZOS to make money. The former is fine, the latter is not because it still affects lore.

I don't like things that make noises and flash on barswap though... ahem... Soulrazer polymorph and prior therric arms pack...

Crown store items are guilty of this, but otherwise, I find the lore and story of ESO is realistic within the world of Tamriel. Any MMO, however, will find itself selling flashy, sometimes gaudy items to keep players buying. I don't mind it as it's the reality of MMOs and I can separate my character roleplaying in the story from what other players are doing anyway. So long as they keep the story of ESO grounded within the lore of Nirn, I don't mind it as I know they need to make money and these flashy items keep the lights on.

All these things just make the world seem more cartoony. I don't find anything fun about loud noises and bright animations and really think they should give players a toggle to turn these off.

I was playing Skyrim a bit the other day, and I was struck once again by how bleak Tamriel’s future is, hardly any color whatsoever. But honestly, I like the graphics of Skyrim because they seem so realistic.

To me, ESO seems like the 1980s of Tamriel’s past - flashy colors, big hair, shoulder pads, leg warmers, etc. and one has to wonder where it all went between the events of ESO and the other games set in ESO’s future.

I think ESO has gone too far in the flash bang noise direction myself and wish it could be toned down - at the very least, by allowing us to turn off some of the effects used by other players.

I like a little bit of colour and flashiness (even if it's not very Elder Scrolls-like), but it's become a bit ridiculous recently, I think. In towns, my screen seems to be a constant jangle of bright pink and purple flashes; glowing yellow, green or cyan pets; glowing mounts that burst on-screen with enormous flashes; glows and skins on players...

I'm conflicted because while I would love an option to turn some of these effects off, I also think it would look a little dreary to turn ALL collectible cosmetic effects off. Could we maybe have a menu of toggleable items? Maybe turn off other players' special recall animations but not mount flashes, for example. I'd love that.

An aspect that's not usually discussed is how it impacts the minority of us who prefer to play in first person. Some custom actions are way too flashy to use in first person. For example, I bought the diamond crate package for the recall action but in first person it basically just turns your screen white. I don't use the harvesting custom actions I have because they don't look all that great in first person.

Even some of the NPC effects are terrible in first person. The imperial NPC that takes part in the main quest of Gold Road (her name escapes me at the moment) casts some type of shield on the player that is really off-putting in first person. It lights up the screen and I can hardly see anything.

I get the feeling the designers and testers don't try anything out in first person and need to be reminded that the ability to play in first person exists, and so new effects etc. need to be tested in that viewpoint.

As for how I feel about other players being flashy, most of the time I don't mind, but there are players who don't pay attention to where they are. For example, if you have a flashy mount, mounting in the middle of a crafting area is obnoxious. Mounting right next to an NPC players can talk to is also obnoxious. Etc.

Not at all. Whoever thinks things are getting flashy, they haven't seen flashy games. TESO is a pale and opaque game compared to other titles out there.

The game is fine, on the right path, as long as ZOS doesn't implement Korean/Asian characters and all that type of weird stuff.

I’m not overly concerned with mounts and stuff like other people here may mention but rather that things like Mirrormoor Mosaics and especially the new trial have way too much brightness and effects happening on the screen at one time.

There’s even a bug on PlayStation where the last mechanic in the trial (where you carry the orb to the start) doesn’t leave a character when they fracture it and you end up with 5+ orb visuals by the time you finish. It makes it impossible to see anything much less know which orb is about to fracture off a specific player.

That is specifically a visual bug and was fixed in the latest PC patch, so it should be fixed for consoles on your next maintenance.

I really like the direaction that eso has gone with the new things having actual animations and lights that make it feel magical, like incursions and other things

i hope that the minority of people that complain loud on the forum will not ruin it for the rest of us and stop them from making visually beautiful things instead of making eso look bland

im glad actual magic is in the game now instead of simple boring animations

please bring more of this to the game

just give people a toggle to tone it down so the rest of us can enjoy things looking up to par with modern games please
