Urgent Hotfix Required

Here's a screenie of DC in N Morrowind, after they had been there for a long while farming. It shows only a tiny portion of the DC that was there, after we were finally able to start beating them back.

I could try and explain to you how gaining unauthorized access is typically the same thing as taking advantage of a flaw, but I doubt you would understand.

That hacks are exploits of vulnerable software code? Curious, I could have sworn you were making the argument that they had nothing to do with each other. Or did you miss the part that when you gain access to unauthorized data (ie areas of the zone you're not supposed to be in) you are "hacking" from that definition?

I actually have no stake in any of this, I was never there for what you described. I logged into my baby EP toon for exactly five minutes to take the screenshot I did.

I am almost exclusively an AD player. Sucks to be wrong doesnt it bud. =D

The thing is for the players who were in those starter zones..They have now discovered that wayshrine and can use that wayshrine whenever they please.

This needs to be fixed.

Aaah man I haven't tested that yet. IT is true the Wayshrines appear on the map but I wasn't aware of whether they could be "Discovered". This would make battles go on forever as it is possible to simply die/rez in a hostile starter zone.

When EU servers go back online I will attempt to confirm this.

It' confirmed. Once you discover it you can port there from any wayshrine. Dont ask how I know these things.

Aaaah man this turns up the PvP action to LEGENDARY. There isn't any quick fix as to how to deal with this problem either. Can't wait for EU servers to come back online

There isn't any quick fix as to how to deal with this problem either.

Of course there is. Just add a check to disallow players from opposing factions to discover and travel to safe zone wayshrines. If they want to fix this, it's a really simple matter, and it's just a server side patch. I think it would be wise of ZOS to make this a priority.

Solves potentially one problem. Doesn't solve the "ability to get into scroll areas without gate down" or other issues.

Also you don't need rival Wayshines to use this hack: Setting up camps above the starter zone on edge of map areas also allows you to "stream in" and fight.

LOL at all the butthurt in this thread. This is the most interesting thing to happen to PvP since the EP/AD alliance on wabba that let AD farm emperor as long as they kept DC back. EP will still win wabba thanks to that deal no matter what DC does.

Now on to exploits...

If someone is using memory hooks or external programs to cheat, ban them immediately - no arguments there. That is CLEARLY against the TOS and I would report them in a heartbeat.

If someone is using this games own inherent buggyness to do something funny like this then I am all for it.

The definition of exploit is too broad.

Are we supposed to avoid doing anything the developers didn't intend? I doubt the devs intended to make vampires able to 1 shot people. Should we have reported people using bat swarm back when it was OP?

If I don't burn an enemy camp because I know its bugged and spawn blocking them, is that exploiting too?


This is silly. Take the fight to your enemy and show them no quarter. Even in their base.

It's not my fault these issues still persist after beta. I reported anything i found in beta that was bugged. Fat lot of good that did.

Dumb trolls, mad nerds, dumb game. This is very disappointing. I'm always getting slammed by nerds who practice animation cancelling, spend hours with a calculator figuring out their pvp build etc.. I'm used to that.

I don't really care too much as long as there are also normal people to play against. This current stuff is going to make normals stay away. I'm certainly not setting foot in there at this point. I'm DC Wabba and to see that my faction is leading the way, today, in outright cheating is so pathetic I don't want to touch it.

I'm called a noob out there very often for not cheating. I would love for these lame cheaters to get a 2 week, if not perma, ban. It would make the game a much, much nicer place to be.

Well I'm glad you don't feel entitled to win every fight when you throw darts at a board to choose what skills to slot and a competent player spends hours theorycrafting to create a strong build.

That's a good start. But the mentality of most of DC in zone is pathetic. They talk about "fighting with honor" and not using pulsar like everyone else.

And that is why giant DC zergs die to "dishonorable" better players that actually understand game mechanics.

To paraphrase Ned Stark, Min/Maxing beats valor 9 times out of 10. L2P DC

Straw.

Not nerdcrafting does not mean randomly slotting abilities. Through playing and experience I "L2P" and choose my loadout after playing rather than via nerdcrafting prior to building. It's a longer process and more fun for some.

Nerdcrafting in and of itself isn't the problem because you should get to roughly the same place eventually. You'll just start off behind the 8-ball as you learn by experience rather than calculator.

The constant changes and nerfs can and have gimped carefully nerdcrafted builds as much as any other. Lag and playerskill can counter nerdcrafting as well but exploiting (and I put animation cancelling in that category myself which is just my opinion) seems to be the next step for nerdcrafters who still can't win. These are the people more likely to take that next step. So it's not nerdcrafting alone - it's the combination of these things that kills the game for normals. Pure nerdcrafters who don't exploit: no problems. They are, IMO, the exception though.

Unfortunately, and I see it within my own faction as much as anywhere, these people are overwhelmingly cheats. It's as simple as that.

Back in the Good Old Days in DAoC a GM would have spawned a group of Level-109-Guards (players could reach only level 50) and they would have killed any exploiter instantly. Nowadays there seems to be no simple solution anymore ...
