Trying to get the attention of guild mates who are grouped in group chat sucks no text chat...the in game mail only updates right away if you log out and back in and most people have there notifacations turned off on there consoles so there not spamed..

as far as pc has it...guess what this was supose to be a stright port to console not a differnt game..

If you just playing with your little click i guess you might not want text chat..trying to play a mmo it be nice if it had the basic form of comucation..but selling buying grouping is all hindered

Ok, if was an actual option to turn it off. But I have yet to see a console version of an mmo actually do that yet? And as a rule, I don't do "cliques" so don't assume that's my reasoing. Mostly it's because of trolls, and if there was text chat, they would abuse the absolute hell out of it. Look I get it , your in the minority that's not a spammer. Fair enough, but what about the 99.9 % that are trolls , spammers , flamers etc. And it would be a different matter, IF the mods , volunteers would police this game religiously. But allot of these mods, have taught themselves to tune it out. IF I was a mod, volunteer etc._ I would be like one of these old time sheriffs , keeping the peace and cleaning up the town. So to speak, I won't even get into the fact their often "payed". Were already having issues with voice chat and harrasment, do we really need to add to it? Here is another thing to consider okay , gamers complaining about imersion in the game. Well , text chat would literary kill off any imersion that was left in ESOTU. my first mmo (not video game) was SWQ in 2003 there was a text chat and trolls there..its all part of it..and yes most mmos you can turn off text chat..ill use DCUO a free to play pc and ps mmo you can leave any channel you dont wanna see..globle lfg.. trade..you can make your own channels both voice and text..

As far as social networking..this is a mmo you supose to be able to do all the networking in game not have to go out of game and use another app or fourm..
and as far as Imersion..untill i can turn off that god awful pvp message about the scrolls there is none lol
again its just my opion but i would like them to inable the all ready in game text chat

You can turn off text chat on pc.

Just throwing this out there but I was kicked from server tonight . Screen went black , got an error message that read along the lines of removed from server for sending too many messages spam is not allowed. Or at least words to that effect . I almost thought zeni were trolling me . So is it coded in but locked? Why would I get kicked for spam when I'm on PS4 using a mic in guild chat . They need it implemented people without mics In the guild are being excluded from groups now it's not practical to message everyone individually to ask if they wanna run X dungeon. A few friends have already stopped playing citing it as a jazzed up RPG with Co op tacked on. Of course that's from a seasoned mmo players perspective

Have you played any other console mmo's? You can hide the chat box in dcuo, ff14arr and warframe. As for trolls do a quick youtube search for eso console trolling there are plenty of videos trolling using the voice chat. And i see you have played the immersion card rofl the immersion card is used to justify every yhing that is wrong with this game.

This is me playing with text chat in ffxiv on PS4, and FFXIV is the most perfect cross platform MMO there is and tect chat not only works perfect but IS needed to make the game and community better, i even have the official PS3 bluetooth keyboard for my PS4...

The game is wonderful, but will not last long term with out text chat. I've been playing mmorpgs for 16 years, and I can't imagine not having it. Voice chat is awful. In 16 years, nothing has ruined an mmo experience for me like really being into a quest string, going into town only to hear kids screaming into a microphone.

This has to be fixed, soon or people will fade off.

Anyone who prefers not having any sort of text chat is absolutely nuts.

Voice chat and text-based chat are simply different tools, and we would like to use the best tool for the job[/size] instead of constantly trying to force the square peg into the round hole and being told that's how it should work. It's not.

Using Voice Chat to organize a Guild is like using a Hammer to cut your toenails![/size]

I didn't say to "organize" a guild, I only said to help recruit for one in-game w/out resorting to forums outside of the game.

However, if you'd care to elaborate on your viewpoint as to why you believe this, I'm willing to listen. : )

Um...Dude...it was just a colorful way of saying I agree with "the right tool for the right job".
I even posted the same sentiment way back around page 3. (lol)

As it is right now, if you want to talk to every member of your guild that is ingame at the moment, you have to jump into "room 1" say what you need and wait for replies, then jump into "room 2" and wait for replies....etc.
And the tooltip for VC even says; "Guilds get their own Voice Channels. The larger the Guild the more channels they get."
So, our "reward" for building a large/successful guild is to have our ability to communicate with them hampered to an extreme.

Ah, sorry, I clearly misunderstood your intent there. Please forgive me. : )

As a paying customer of an mmo yes we're all entitled to having the best communication possible when the pc version has it imo.

DCUO went 100% toxic , when it f2p. I didn't say it would happen over night necessary. But I am full a where , just how toxic the PC community is. I can read and did before I started play ESOTU. We have given you a solution to your issue you just won't except it. You figure IF you whine and complain enough , that Zenimax will cave in. I say do it alone , just to shut you entitled gamers up. But next week, it be something else? It's a lose , lose situation with you guys.

You want text chat, go play on the PC. It's really that simple. Zenimax needs to be focusing on , more important things like new content aka dlc.

Then this "stupid chat" bs.

Actually I know quite a few things about MMO's, and you are aware that's one video out of a thousand I have seen the complete oposite. Besides If they know they're being filmed, they won't act up.

It's like certain game exclusives , you like the game that's a PS4 exclusive. But you buy the xbone instead. You gamers get this self entitllement that has to have every exact feature. Face it allot of you are mad, butthurt, whatever etc. You have the option, freedom etc. To play a version already with text chat, built in. No you'd rather stay on the console , and complain as to what you don't have? Lol!

The only really toxic person around currently is yourself. Throwing accusations of how terrible we are because we want reasonable communications, calling us entitled for wanting equal treatment with the PC version, calling us whiners because we're voicing our concern on the product we paid for.

The only 'reasons' you've offered to why text chat would be a bad thing are baseless.

You really need to sort out your opinion from the facts.

By your reckoning, every game that currently exists and includes any form of text communications should be a complete cesspool but they're not. And if you don't like the text chat you can just turn it off.

I'm pretty sure most of us would appreciate that anyway, you think we're terrible and don't want us to be able to communicate, so why would we want to talk to you?

You turn off text chat, we turn off voice chat, and everyone's happy.

Really, the only thing the lack of text chat has proven is how much LESS I want anything to do with people who are all for the change. You've all gone out of your way to prove how ready you are to judge other people and speak ill of entire communities simply because they don't fit into your convenience mold.

No one is on the leaderboards for any of the trials on the xbox. Can't get a full group for the vet dungeons. Kids talking smack in all zones. This open mic communication is a joke. Back to pvp maybe one day I can find players to do vet endgame content.

Playing on PC is not a solution to the issue of the game's systems no longer being as fluid as they were intended to be while playing on consoles.

Also, DCUO going toxic after going F2P seems more a symptom of the game going F2P, not because it had chat enabled, as the game always had chat enabled from the start. If it started out fine, went F2P and then wasn't fine anymore for you, then logic follows that the factor that changed was the most likely cause of the problem.

PS) "Whining and complaining" as you call it is the reason the game you're playing has evolved from the buggy, broken mess that we had at launch. You're welcome.

So me being cursed in zone and threatened while I have my mic on mute is no difference then someone typing it. This happens in zone all the time. I guess I have been a victim of bullying. I guess we need to not have the option for voice chat either. I can turn off the mic just like you could turn off the chatbox. I need to play mmo with others to have fun with end game content and other material. Text chat will make the game way more active with groups. I am not getting the full immersion experience without chat. Anyone that plays games knows they will potentially run into rude people. Should one not be able to handle those people they need to play single player games like skyrim. This is a multilayer game and idiots are always among us somewhere in cyber world.

No one is on the leaderboards for any of the trials on the xbox. Can't get a full group for the vet dungeons. Kids talking smack in all zones. This open mic communication is a joke. Back to pvp maybe one day I can find players to do vet endgame content.

Fully support, at the very least, local 'say' chat. Need to prep people standing outside of dungeons instead of going through the painstaking process of sending them PSN messages explaining how grouping works, and who should be group leader/difficulty scaling.

I also fully support players targeting a spammer and flagging them as such. After several players have flagged a single player, their text becomes silent for the rest of the day, or at the very least a few hours. They won't know they've been hushed, and meanwhile it could also trigger a notification flag/report to record any spam (same text repeated over and over, a la goldseller bots) for evidence before it can be reviewed, resulting in critical beat downs on the offending account.

I do find it a bit strange that there's ALWAYS just one troll here making a huge scene and trying to set people off.

It's like they're just trying to rile people up enough for there to be an excuse to close the thread.

How about instead of telling people to play nice we instead get a response of "Optional Text Chat coming in a future patch?" the more you guys hide behind the issue the more volatile people will get.

I would suggest instead stating that they return the text chat feature. Giving them an out just invites more laziness.

Additionally, in a week or two this thread will surpass the Ask Us Anything sticky that's been around for about two years. That'll be a good milestone for the importance of the topic. Every day there's more unique individuals posting for the feature, and they may only post once but they're still making the statement.

A few of us keep the thread alive, and trolls pop up attempting to get the thread closed, or us banned. The point is too important to let go though and they're going to have to listen at some point.

[Edit: this doesn't include the other threads people start on the subject when they don't see this one that get closed and the several other apparently unrelated threads that tend to come back around to the same topic. It's not as low key as they seem to want everyone to think. Consolidating the threads just makes it easier to ignore.]

Hearing a voice is natural. Big block of text obscuring the screen like watching a news show with ticker scrolling across the screen not my idea of enjoyment or use of space.

Yeah so much more immersive and natural to be in an area doing a quest or be in a public dungeon and all of a sudden har someones tv/music playing in the background all of a sudden as they run by you now in proximity for voice chat...

Yeah listening to someone coughing and hacking, a baby crying or horrible sounding music is so much better than a text chat option you can hide . I can't help but turn voice off everytime I try and enable it. Literally more rando sounds than people talking. I think this week I am going to pop around the zones with voice on and record everything I come across for a few hours and cut together 'The Sounds of ESO youtube video". If fact maybe I will turn it into a series of videos. There sure is enough keyboard typing, people singing to themselves, foul language teenagers, burping/coughing/sneezing, chewing/crunching, tv noises, music noise, babies crying/dogs barking etc for me to easily flood youtube the same way my ears are flooded by the impending sounds.

As is I now tend to have ESO on PC up on my second monitor so I can ask questions and talk with people the way I should be able to. Too bad I have to run two clients on separate machinery to do that. Would be nice if I could ask the community if I could get some help on a dolmen or help killing a zone boss without having to ride around the map then go into the UI to see if anyone is my voice vicinity or just randomly run around asking the air.
