    A new amusing anecdote:

    There's a beggar's guild in Riften.

They're chasing people around harassing them for free gold. Also, they're taking bong hits for gold.

    IMMERSION.

It is amusing but they keep pulling "arrow in the knee" jokes...

"A five or a ten, a ten or a twenty, change is good but I need money, brother. I dunno if you heard but my daughter's sick, got bit by a skeever."

    *bong hit noises*

Text chat boxes serve to only remove and destroy my immersion playing the game.

But a big hairy Nord warrior talking to his mom in a squeeky 12 year old's voice and an American accent helps with the immersion?

Not when I turn voice chat off.

But having a big huge wall of text filled with nothing but spam that obscures my screen when playing ESO. Yea. That does destroy my immersion. "Join my clan the Ablitoraters we are best ever", "I'm selling X and X for X amount of gold", etc. That is what text chat will be spammed with nonstop.

Hearing a voice is natural. Big block of text obscuring the screen like watching a news show with ticker scrolling across the screen not my idea of enjoyment or use of space.

    So turn it off.

This. I find it strange that people can handle turning off Area Chat because it kills their immersion, but clicking the X on a text box is somehow far too complicated. <.<

Last weekend I had to find out, that a lot of my guild members with a PS4 didn't bought the game, as soon as they found out about the missing text chat. That was the only reason, they refused to try ESO. If there was a text chat, they would at least have tried the game.

DCUO went 100% toxic , when it f2p. I didn't say it would happen over night necessary. But I am full a where , just how toxic the PC community is. I can read and did before I started play ESOTU. We have given you a solution to your issue you just won't except it. You figure IF you whine and complain enough , that Zenimax will cave in. I say do it alone , just to shut you entitled gamers up. But next week, it be something else? It's a lose , lose situation with you guys.

You want text chat, go play on the PC. It's really that simple. Zenimax needs to be focusing on , more important things like new content aka dlc.

    Then this "stupid chat" bs.

I'd love for you to elaborate on how dcuo went 100% toxic at f2p and how that relates to this discussion. I'm also a dcuo vet as are most of my guild. You throw the entitled word around yet it seems that you're the entitled one . You don't want it so nobody gets it? Seems entitled to me if you think you're desires are more important than anyone else's. Dcuo had a great simple chat system that could be minimized and customised . We even created a cross faction private chat for pre-made pvp . It became community standard . Pvp chat on eu and 5v5 chat on u s perhaps you heard of them . This game would sure use something similar to organize skirmishes vs other guilds

A guild vs guild battle would be pretty epic, text chat is undoubtedly the easier form of communication to organise large events such as this.

Definitely going into my review. I can't even communicate with my guild. If they aren't in chat, there's no way to talk to, broadcast to, or email everyone. This is ridiculous.

They've basically turned an MMO into a single player game.

That is so true. Please devs, put text chat back into the console version!

I played console twice and couldn't handle the lack of coordination or socialization due to a lack of a real zone chat. Good luck with your guilds and dungeons with that epic lack of zone. Good luck with your pvp with the epic lack of any zone wide call outs (real important since the average pvper can't look at the map or use an add-on to see where stuff is happening.

But let's continue to beg and he continued to be ignored. The crown store is clearly more important.

Why not make iOS and Android apps with zone chats and make them visible in the UI of the game? That way you can communicate on a device you already have (and don't have to purchase a keyboard).

Ok, you want "text chat", then I think you should have to pay extra or separately. Why? because I simply don't want to pay for your addiction , for text chat. It's kinda like cable tv, Dish, Direct tv, I am not a sports fan. But yet as a subscriber, I have to pay extra for channels I don't really care about. And since you want "text chat" so bad , you can literary taste it. I think YOU , should have to pay for it.

Again , the solution for legally deaf ppl is close captioning or sub titles. But for anyone to use that as a platform or excuse, that is so unethical. Unless your legally deaf.

That's one of the dumbest arguments against text chat I've ever seen. Congrats.

I like all the "immersion" arguments.

Pulling a pick-axe out of nowhere to mine ore doesn't break "immersion".

Or how we can check mail from anywhere, I'm pretty sure that's not how postal services work, doesn't break "immersion".

Or how, when doing certain quests, you're told to, "feel blessed as you're the first one to enter the ruins/temple/etc or hold the scepter/wand/staff/etc" but then see 10 other players doing the exact same thing. That doesn't break "immersion".

But text chat most certainly does.

  • WelshAssassin1987
No text chat is really starting to put a downer on playing. I could deal with it at first, but the fact that no one uses voice chat makes this game a solo experience. I don't even try to group anymore because it pointless. So many issues could be solved by a small box at the bottom of the UI. Trading = easier, communication = easier, finding guild = easier, I could go on but I think we all know that how much better this game would be with text chat.

Immersion is so damn subjective. Why does anybody think, he or she could tell what influences the immersion of another player?

For me, it's also not immersive, when my character doesn't stand on uneven ground properly. Most people wouldn't care. And voice chat is not immersive for me as well.

I wouldn't care about letter boxes, where you have to go to check your mail. I wouldn't even care about post offices, where you have to go to get your items that were send to you by mail.

And I would certainly love to have to equip a pick-axe to mine ore, just like in FFXIV. I would even be fine with having to go to a wardrobe to pick that up, but as we don't have housing, we don't have wardrobes.

So when somebody says, voice chat is breaking their immersion, just accept that.

OK. I've played some PvP. I am beginning to think text chat may help there.
As long as it can be invisible if other players want it and if its already in the files and dissent subtract money from the funds used for PvP fixes, dlc development etc, I guess I really don't care if they add it or not.

Here's a thought though, in PvP when a castle is being Attacked or scroll is being taken, will the same people who ignore the giant flashing 'scroll has been stolen from x' also be ignoring the text chat instructions/ strategy?

I was also thinking about the viability of forming a server guild, and having every team style player join and then branch off in to tactical groups using the multiple channels and maybe getting coordinated by one guy maybe some one with strategy exp.

Then the commander swaps between the guild chat channels ordering quickly each squad.

Commander mode for eso. The commander might even be at the base using the map and spam recruiting fresh arrivals interested in giant battles.

Of course this is all just my opinion.

Honestly, yes, those people will most likely also ignore text chat instructions / strategy. Unfortunately, that's just the way games are when you're playing w/ other people.

Some will care about the objectives, and some won't. A more fully fleshed text-based chat function isn't going to change that.

But for those that actually do care about "winning" (or at least, not losing) for their faction, better text-based chat will most definitely help to coordinate groups across the campaign map, just like VOIP is extremely helpful w/in smaller groups to coordinate at a keep or resource nodes.

Funny enough am the one who post the question on reddit few months ago and they did said they will have text chat....all the sudden they decide not to! Am deaf myself and I already love the game. Am now level 40 and I been solo at whole time because it only thing I able to do without text chat. I try do dungeon once and feeling complete lost because of no text chat. I find it tough on PVP as have to run around to find group to join in the battle as if there text chat I will know where to go and help out the fight. The real question for me will I still play when am level 50? Maybe not if I feel left out on dungeon and PVP. I want to part of it like everyone do and enjoy the social. I really hope text chat will be adding soon. Text chat will bring eso community together and enjoy the game more.

Do you get affected by people who have their helmet toggled on when you have your helmet toggled off? Are you affected by people who have a different camera zoom to you? Is your game experience affected by people who have a different brightness setting to you? You people (a tiny minority) have yet to give a valid reason why other people shouldn't be able to use a text chat option you can simply turn off. Nothing you have said thus far is a valid argument against the addition of text chat.

Your aggressiveness is kind of working against you, IMO. You both disagree and the case for both has been stated here by both sides. If zos does implement the text chat, I'm sure they will do it in such a way as to keep both crowds happy. So let's just agree to disagree.

The debate was fine. The argument is grating. The mean posts are not helpful.

The cool thing about this game is that there are many ways to do it. None are wrong. You shouldn't be mean to other posters just because they don't agree with you.

None of us has a magic wand to make zos choose one way or the other.

Obviously text chat is on the PC version so someone at zos likes it more than not.

Minimizes or vanishes? Like completely gone right? Not some minimized windows rectangle?

And do players get mad if you ignore their coins because the text box is closed? Is that a thing?
