Well, here are some screenshots from the PC version so that you can see exactly what it looks like w/ the text box open and minimized.

As for players, they will get mad for all kinds of reasons, so I'd say it really depends more on the person who is doing the typing. Personally, if I say something to someone and they don't respond, I just assume they either aren't paying attention to chat or are afk.

this game feels like a single player mmo. Cant group with anybody, sell items, buy items or find decent guilds. I'm vr7 now and this game has become extremely boring. If i hit vr14 before text chat is added i will probably quit the game because i will have beaten it. Console = hit vr14 + do cadwells gold pledge = mmo beaten.

When i was low level i was having alot of fun and i wanted to sub to eso+ but now that im vr7 and theres nothing to do but solo quests till vr14 i see no reason to sub anymore.

Not when I turn voice chat off.

Yet a tiny chat box that EVERY mmo in the world has is breaking immersion? a small unfocused bottom left part of your screen where you never look is immersion breaking? but the giant health stamina and magika bars and a huge compass don't?

What about the fact your char can carry 60 2h swords on him by default? the realism... please, Chat box is Immersion.

Thats kind of concerning that these points where bought up to zenimax before the launch especially the accessibility issues and they did not seem to care.

ZOS isn't a AAA developer, they get by with minimal effort trying to deliver maximum results.

Until ZOS starts acting like Blizzard and actually having top developers (GhostCrawler) interacting with their customers on the forums, giving accurate and reasonable answers on "why, what, and why not", treating all their customers like people, regardless of skill level or ability (or disability)...until that happens, they will soon find out why most MMOs fail and customers move on.

The debate was fine. The argument is grating. The mean posts are not helpful.

The cool thing about this game is that there are many ways to do it. None are wrong. You shouldn't be mean to other posters just because they don't agree with you.

None of us has a magic wand to make zos choose one way or the other.

Obviously text chat is on the PC version so someone at zos likes it more than not.

This is why we needs devs to make games who play games, not these false jocks from college making games etc, it's embarrassing as a gamer imo, basic features and important functions missing and a 47 page discussion and not a reply once from devs, if i was a dev of ESO i would be reading the forums on my lunch break and answer a 47 page long forum topic about one of the imo most important things to be needing added.

Just seems like too much side stepping going on... also 3000 crowns for the new horse is high especially as limited time, what about people who haven't been paid yet etc and cant just spare instantly within a week the required cash? i can afford it but i'm not paying 3k for it out of principle, it's clear they're testing the console players to see how much they would spend on impulse.

Yeah, I think the only thing that is going to get a text chat implemented at this point is the sheer demand for it and players have to keep speaking out. It's pretty bad when they override accessibility for the sake of immersement, when even that immersment has flaws. I stood around a Vampire shrine for the past few days now trying to get a bite and couldn't even communicate with people because everybody was being loud and there was this super loud female there having to make her presence known. Not that I have a problem with a female player, but she had already been bitten and had no real reason to be there other than being loud and obnoxious like she was and preventing people from being able to speak and make an exchange.
That's just one example. It's also really annoying going into a city and hearing racial slurs and f bombs being dropped around left and right while you're trying to recruit or simply talk to somebody.
I really do think that adding a text chat option would help to reduce the amount of clutter in the voice chat system and help it if anything.
It's just crazy how an RPG was released with a voice chat option, but not a text chat. Yeah, we have a quick chat, but that is very limited and we're not muted RuneScape players. That's how Jagex punishes their players. It's kind of ridiculous.
Running around and questing, I feel like I may as well be playing Skyrim and getting more out of it. I leave my area chat off because people are freaking stupid and I think the same goes for a lot of people, so there is no communication beyond using emotes every now and then to say hi or thanks to another player.

I would like to have text box as well... Just sort of an expected thing in an mmo these days ....

I am 80 percent deaf after an explosion in Afghanistan so albeit I can make due in many mmo's the voice chat in eso is horrid ... I can't hear thus can't really communicate ... Skyrim is just flat out a better solo game period than ESO so if ESO is going to be playable to me as an mmo I'll need a to add keyboard to ps4 and be able to type for communication at some point ... I'm not even level 10 yet as I'm playing around with crafting and builds and reading as much as I can... I'm excited for the game but no text chat is depressing for me

not only is text chat needed but group finder needs fixed. im vr7 now and i have been playing solo the whole times. Group finder is a joke it takes 1+ hour to find a group and EVERY time i get into a group its always with vr 1 and 2's. When i get into a group like that i just leave because i have 0 reason to do that dungeon for vr 1 and 2 loot. With a broken group finder and no text chat this game wont last on consoles.

MMO's need communication and this game has little to none.

I hope ZOS gives us an answer soon, not only did they not address the issue bonus eso live, they did not talk about any issue with the console. Console needs text chat but it also needs the voice chat to get fixed as well. Like not being put into a channel automatically.

How does zos typically announce stuff? How did they announce craglorn? Were they tight lipped until the time came or did they feed the community bread crumbs of info to keep hype up?

At this point I wonder if that's well disciplined silence or maybe this thread is tilting at windmills?

I'm new to the community so maybe this kind of thread, warts and all, gets stuff done so I dont know.

I'm happy for stealing stuff and thieves refuge, was that update fueled by this in the face of a lot of developer silence?

Maybe they just really want to surprise the console Text chat community, I hope that's all it is.

I've gone back to FFXIV. That game is vastly superior in every meaning of the word.
Party finder works wonders,
Guilds aren't pointless
Trade actually means something.
Dungeons aren't boring.
Post game isn't just a grind

And oh.

There's actually a community, you don't feel isolated in an mmo environment.
Don't want to listen to people on Mic? You dont need too!

I couldn't even get to level 50 or finish the story, it's so painfully boring and you can't make friends like you can in other mmo's like warframe or Realm reborn.

I play FFXIV to and the new expansion but i think the combat is worse, i just seriously end up falling asleep as a dps healer or tank, it's the same pull, the same rotation and same outcome every fight, the LOOOONG 2.5 sec GCD makes combat feel soo slow.

FFXIV basic quests are the most generic boring stuff, literally go kill 5 wolves over there, that's all it is, makes acheage quests look epic.

ESO also has a 100x better world, the world on ESO feels alive and realistic but FFXIV u can tell it's mostly barren to run on the PS3.
