Achievement titles etiquette

Just wondered what everyone's etiquette when it comes to displaying Achievement titles, especially Trial titles on your other characters that did not get the Achievement.

I'm in a quandary about displaying such titles on my other characters.

What do you guys think?
Does it not bother you, or think it's a big No-No?

Account wide achievements. If I think a character might fit the title then I'll wear it. I don't have any of the really good trifecta ones like HH or TTT but I do have many of the hm ones and I'll wear them as I please.

Eta: is the concern misrepresenting that characters abilities? Like bringer of light on my tank when I never tanked hm vCR ? So people might think I'll try to pass myself off as a better tank than I am? It'll become apparent very quickly.

Yeah, that is part of the issue. Displaying the title on a different role seems a bit wrong to me, but likewise I feel it's wrong to display it on any characters that haven't actually achieved it.

I think the meta here is to put "Former Empress" on all your new characters until they hit level 10, actually.

Titles don't mean as much as they used to since AWA was implemented.

If it bothers you that I have a title on a lvl 3 character that couldnt possibly achieve such a thing... thats really not my problem anymore.

There is no "title etiquette" other than some trial leads may not want titles visible as it contributes to visual clutter during things like stacking. Other than that wear what you earned because you the player earned the title not the character. I use an addon to cycle through my favorite titles.

Personally I've only ever used titles on characters I actually got the achievement with, but I'm not really bothered by others who don't do this. I will admit to smh seeing an alliance rank 15 Grand Overlord, but only for a second.

I don't have titles from hardest content, and only once did something specially to get title (and that was Lord/Lady)... but even with my quite small amount of titles I even don't remember where are most of them from.

I could not care less how people deal with their own titles. Whether it’s locked to characters who have acquired the achievement, thematics-only, or flexxing, I support all methods. Personally, when I acquire a new trial trifecta I put it on the character who earned it until the novelty wears off and then I swap back to a roleplay title. I’m not sure I even use any trifecta titles by default at the moment so I guess the argument is moot. That said, I do have an addon that swaps my title when I enter content, to the highest title I have in that content. This is with intent to signal to people approximately how much I know what I’m doing (even if it’s not the role I cleared it on, I’m fairly good at picking up what other roles are doing).

I would only use a title on a character that has earned it. Yes, I am all my characters, but I see the display of the title as "this character played that part of the story."

I used to set the titles only to characters who got the achievement. I took it as a quality mark.
    Today I don't care much.
What people might think? It is not my problem. Some players still judge the character by the champion points amount, you know.

Having been here long before AwA, some of my characters do have titles that they actually "earned", and I keep those as a way of remembering the experience.

But with account-wide achievements and subclassing, what even is a character anymore? If I could earn the achievement on one character, I could pretty much just respec any of them into a build that could do it.

Regardless, I'm not at all concerned about what other people think about the titles I've chosen, and for newer characters I generally choose a title that I feel fits the character's backstory.

Any titles I have I would have earned with any of my characters if that we're the character I felt like playing at the time I earned it. So it makes no difference to me which characters are sporting which titles.

I only display a Title on my Main, which is always the character who does content first to get the achievements. It'll always be the most recent one I acquired as well.

I can never remember where titles come from, I just pick ones that sound appropriate for the character. For example my breton warden uses Witch because it's the closest we have to Wyress.

If someone was putting together a group which needs experienced players I'd expect them to ask directly rather than trying to pick out clues from the cosmetics they're using at the time.

Take whatever you want. It’s there. Titles are basically cosmetic anyway.

I always assign mine based on what is lore appropriate for my characters. I have one character who’s the sweaty one to get the achievements, and then I have them for anyone to use. Heck, he doesn’t even have my sweatiest title since Shield of the North is perfect for him, so that’s not changing. But I’m not gonna pretend my escaped Telvanni slave who sports “the Unchained” because it’s perfect for him actually got the BRP trifecta. Everyone who knows me knows which character I brought for that one.

The only time it could be an issue is if you try to flex a title… but most people will realize that the person saying “look at the title I have on this character! Let me into the group!” is trying too hard and absolutely is not as good as they claim they are.

I've honestly never paid any attention to any other player's title(s). And I haven't bothered to select one on a number of my alts at all, so those are probably still the default. I'm not sure there is any standard for this. It would be nice if there were a few more fun ones though: "Vanquisher of Mudcrabs" has a nice ring to it.

I think there are three kinds of people.

    People who don't care.
People who try to do this for themselves.
People who try to do this for themselves AND get offended when others do it.

It is a massive waste of time to get bent out of shape about what others are doing, so that has never bothered me for any kind of "flex" thing. Earn it, get carried, move it around characters... whatever floats your boat. You showing a title on a character who didn't earn it doesn't take away from my pride of having earned it.

I used to be in the middle category. AwA and then the subsequent new achievements added which kept getting captured on the first character that logged in, which was completely the wrong character, post AwA, completely ruined this for me. I will sometimes use what I just earned on the character that earned it, and it will still make me smile, but overall I've given up and don't care that much. This actually is not great for ZOS, because it means I'm playing less and investing less in their game because I can't track my re-playability progress, but it is what it is. I barely care myself so I certainly don't care what others are doing in this space.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I take your point. That's the way it used to be here, before account wide achievements. Here's how I see it. I collected the gear. I parsed for hours and mastered my role. I searched, with great success but only after so much trial and error, for raid teams that fit me. I progged, wiped and died for the title. It's mine, not that character.

If I see someone with a vSE trifecta title, or a Hurricane Herald, even on a baby toon, I know they put in the time and effort. They mastered the hardest content. They earned it. If they can't, and say they can, it'll be very clear very fast. I can tank vKA all day, but if my dawnbringer title from dps got me into a tank spot for a DB run, my lack of skill will become wildly apparent for all to see. So if you wanna wear a title on a different character, just don't do that.

This is perfect right here. I keep some titles on some characters most of the time for similar reasons. For the shared effort and fun we had getting those titles with my friends. I still keep bringer of light on my main dps even though I have better ones and I don't particularly like it, cause it was my first hm clear and I still raid with the same team. It's memories. The game is for fun. Not proving my bona fides.

I love account-wide titles personally and see no problem with using titles freely <3 Lot of roleplay options were unlocked for my characters thanks to it. I do keep in mind characters who earned those titles, but they do this for the team! Everyone contributes so others can enjoy nice options :)

I think the first one who benefitted from the account-wide title was my little mule/crafter character. He was named after one of Maelstrom Barons, and I chose "the Flawless Conqueror" for him as soon as I could... The only thing he personally conquered was some crafting bench for daily writ :D

This problem can be solved by honesty to the group :) I wear fancy titles for roleplay and to show that this player is not new to group content; but if it's my first time in some trial, or first time as healer/tank there, I make this clearly known at the start.

I saw dishonest player as well: one tank with Immortal Redeemer title dying to main boss in vAS+2. Instead of asking for advices or explaining what troubles him, he just left the group. Group then commented about his title, because we all got an impression that the player has gotten trifecta there in other role.

While they couldn't have done it without a character, that doesn't mean they couldn't have done it without that character.

The character's tie to an achievement is only that that's the character the player felt like playing when they acquired it.
