About the unneeded and unwanted visual refresh of skill lines...

Please! I implore ZOS, if you really want to add new, excessively unpleasant visual effects, like in most so-called "visual updates," at least don't remove the original effects and let us choose what we prefer to use.

I've always had a lot of trouble creating my builds because I only use skills with the most subtle and least intrusive visuals. And now that I've seen an example of the terrible new visual effects for dragonknights, which are much more exaggerated, I'm really worried about the visual refresh for classes.

We already have so much visual noise with pets, mounts, and other silly things with exaggerated, tasteless light effects; it would be a disaster to have the same happen to skill lines without giving us the option to preserve the originals.

Make this an option, not something forced. I'm even willing to pay to not use the visual refresh of the skills, or even do the opposite, sell these refreshes and leave those who don't want them alone. Please!

And one more important thing: these new effects will surely bring even more noise and confusion to the game, not only visually but also audibly. Perhaps it would be a good time to give us a slider that would allow us to reduce or disable the sound effects of other players, including their pets.

Also, on the flip side, please add as many overstimulating effects as possible. Like, I want to see space unicorns vomiting rainbows and sparkles every time I visit a city. Am I kidding? Who knows anymore. XD

I'm more worried about what they change and how they rearrange the skills than what they look like.
From a personal point of view, I quite liked the new DK skill animations they showed last night.

That's exactly why they should make it optional. You like it, that's great, use it... I didn't like it all, I should be able to keep the game as I already paid. If it's optional it'll be good for all.

Also, I don't even understand the point of ridiculous "visual refresh", they could just add the new visuals as part of Skill Styles. Promoting it and forcing it as something else or just a "visual refresh" is both dishonest and bad planning.

I avoid playing Arcanist despite liking some of its skills quite a bit, because several of them absolutely fry my eyes.

Part of it is the green color they chose but some of it is simply how overly vivid and bright they appear on screen. I know it's a "my problem" thing and do my best with monitor settings, glasses to limit the blue glare when I'm at the computer, and taking frequent little breaks for my eyes, but there are a number of Mounts that cause similar effects with their massive explosions of light and animation when they're activated, and I'm sort of holding my breath that the new Class animations won't be the same.

    Please don't overdo them, ZOS.

    EDIT:
Or else PLEASE give us the ability to limit what we see on OUR screens, dramatically. That's been a request for a long, long, long time, and needs to happen. I'm not looking to impact anyone else, but it's past time we had control of our own visuals.

Dont worry, you wont need to see the new skill animations because a handful of proc sets are going to cover your screen in particle animation diarrhea.

Seriously what happened to important impactful things having the fancy animations. Why do we have giant lazerbeams and tentacles blocking more important events like CC or ultimates?

Look at offbalance, it literally has no animation to telegraph it. Zos gutted old dizzy knockup which had a clear telegraph because they said in big moshpit fights it was too hard to see the caster winding up their sword........Now it has offbalance which triggers off of ANY enemy's medium attack which gets animation canceled and is instant anyways before any animation plays. They should have thought of the core gameplay and what is important before doing any of this.

I agree, please add those as optional visual styles only - do not force them on everyone!
I liked some of new visuals from reveal stream, but I also like the current Whip moves on my Dunmer... The extra spin is just amazing when it procs on immobile enemy!
The fact that we might lose more of old styles and moves which many players still love is depressing :/

And please let us have good old Jabs visuals and animations as skill style! Taking this away was awful, and if I only had Templar character, I don't know what I would do :'( I miss my powerful vocals and nice ray of light:

    gYLXOST.jpeg

And add a style option to use old Flurry animation, of course.

Options with the convenient skill style architecture conveniently in place... Nah that's way too sensible, there's a moral dilemma with making original jabs and original animations come with a crown cost I guess.

Have we considered that the visual style updates are more intended to cut down on some of the visual noise in a last-ditch effort to improve performance? I haven’t seen anything about disco balls and vomiting unicorns in any of the notes, so I’d assume they aren’t just adding extra effects for funsies.

This game is becoming more and more unplayable for me because of the ever increase in extreme FX and too high saturation on new things, to the level of being cartoony.

When Arcanists came I couldn't play with people because of all the beams in dungeons and trials hurt my eyes and gave me headaches. Same with all the recall customisations and radiants they have added the latest year. At any moment my eyes can be burnt by a sudden explosion in front of me. Some trials are impossible for me to do now because of that but also changes to light which has completely bugged out at places, like AA.

I've played ESO for many years without issues and liked the visuals it had, so these ever increasing visuals and effects over the latest years, with complaints that are met with deaf ears, are very frustrating.

I'm not alone with getting issues from it either, and I've very mild light sensitivity when it comes to games, there are few games where it is an issue for me. So I can't imagine how bad it is for people who have higher sensitivites, migraines, sensory problems etc. It's not even just visuals now, also a lot of loud sound effects everywhere.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

Unneeded is subjective but unwanted is undeniably false, many in the community have been begging for this for old classes. I agree there should be more visual options tho to limit "flashiness" if you like for accessibility but a convo in good faith cant be had if we say this isnt wanted by a large part of the community base, they know thats not true from the surveys they put out about this.

I couldnt be more excited as a DK main, but again yea more options are always good for visuals especially.

You'll have to check out the vod. The dk animations are excessively extravagant. The opposite of visual noise reduction.

We've yet to see how the Werewolf skills are adjusted in the combat and visual refresh coming just after the Dragonknight and Two Handed refresh, but based on what I've seen from the Dragonknight and Two Handed abilities, I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what ZOS comes up with for Werewolf.

I hope ZOS continues this momentum through the rest of the skill lines! The old skills feel dated by comparison.

Honestly, this would be the best way to ask for it.

I definitely think that it is in ZOS’s interest for people to see flashy things because it is in all technicality advertising those things to others. They want people to say “wow, that looks so cool, I want to buy one too!”

Evidently the number of people driven away by the flashiness is acceptable… or people just gripe about it but don’t actually leave.

But with this new scheme of “everything is free, but buy loads of cosmetics!” I’m really expecting we’ll get a lot more flashy before long. If they thought a “Hide Sparkleponies” toggle would sell, it might be a thing.

    The new animations look good.

As long as they flow smoothly in combat, then it’s a good change.

Honestly it’s been SO long since we got a good amount of change to work with from a theorycraft perspective. It’s exciting. Feels like the old days with Wrobel giving us those juicy combat updates!

    Indeed.
@ZOS_Kevin this might be one easy to implement (hopefully?) step into that building of trust and rapport by hearing, finally, the people asking for the option of less flashy things.
Even if the old animations and assets themselves can't be preserved on the animation storage space... maybe some sort of option to at least turn down the VFX "volume" on the skills, as is done with the Arcanists beam from other players' perspectives? Something to decrease its opacity and radiance.

As long as the content is good and doesnt drop in quality Im more than happy with this new direction, and Im too old to pretend that seeing a cool badass mount doesnt make me want one also lmao, so this is right on the money.

They make a loot of money off cosmetics so hopefully this also means we'll get better quality armor/clothes and costumes as well. Am optimistic for the first time in a good while.
