But the addons DO NOT change your default settings. Your default settings are still the same. They do not change ANYONES default settings. The only thing they do is to add color to the text that ZO themselves allowed in the API.

The issue is server side, nobody is altering any files on your computer or any configs on your account so before you flame others for their views on this issue perhaps you should put your own argument under the microscope. With that said I think you have a valid point and I do not consider it selfish for you to raise it.

You can install addons to act as a filter or to alter how data is interpreted by your client, Eivar`s suggestion is sensible and considered, they should also ensure that certain colours (Notices) are reserved for "official" use.

Banning the add-on is an overreaction.

OP, This is allowed on the default client by just copying colour codes without using the addon, even if the addon gets blacklisted, people will still be able to use chat colours and its pretty common knowledge now.

It is now 2014, for people who have been playing mmorpgs for a few years, who will fall for a GM asking for personal particulars in-game, And people scamming you say? There's a trade function and COD function for mails, if you still get scammed using those functions, then you deserve to be scammed.

Again, I have my settings like that for a reason. I don't want my zone chat to some times be bright red, or yellow, or white etc...

That is my choice and someone else should not be able to affect that...PERIOD

As far as the scamming goes, not everyone has been playing as long as you and in fact if you even look at these forums you will see quite frequently people saying this was their first mmo experience. So it makes compelte sense when people are scammed out of items in way you might think is just plain stupid since you have experience that they don't.

The faked system messages follow the same rule...not everyone knows they are fake or have the experience to even identify a troll when they see it...hence why they are still around...

Again in short, the colors I have set for zone, guild, say or anything else should not be changed by someone else just to get my attention.

    wow.
All this over the color change..
Listen, if they bug you, just ignore them.
I don't know where your at in the game but I cant even remember the last time I even saw color in the higher end areas.
Its not like they are ruining your game, despite what you say to it, how are they?
A line of colored text in my chat box is no worse than the paragraphs of colors coming in for items for sale.

I just still wish that when some one did install it they would not all feel obligated to type "taste the rainbow'
That joke line is loooooong dead

Text coloration in chat doesn't bother me at all, so from a personal standpoint, I'm fine with it being as-is.

However, I really don't see why changing the text color needs to be part of the API. Client-side? Absolutely -- if an add-on needs to write to the chat window and needs to use a different text color, then that is an example where color change should be allowed.

But I don't see why the color changes need to leave client-side and go to the server, where everyone can see it. Add-ons are for personal use and shouldn't affect others' gaming experience, which this is doing.

If there was a way to change the chat color without an add-on, that would be one thing (because it would be taking a functionality that is already in game and make it more visible or easier to use), but there isn't.

You don't need an addon to change the color of the text. Anyone can do it.

The problem is the fact that if I have to ignore them, then they have already used it to the point of annoying me.

Why should I have to spend the time ignoring people that are changing my default chat settings?

I have zone, say, guild etc set to a specific color for a reason...IN NO WAY should this be able to be changed by another user mod or not.

I hate to come across as a nit picker but:
You mean seriously? All the bugs, the bots, the constant gold spam, and you really are this concerned over the color change of chat?
Add ons are a part of the game world. While I agree with you in point, that this add on is changing your settings, I don't see them blocking the code or even really worried about this right now.
Yes it is a pain that you have to ignore it if you don't like it, but its far less annoying than the constant stream of " You buy gold!"
That being said, at this point, until / if / when they do decide to block this addon, you can only ignore it, or use the addon to block it.
Again, I do understand you don't like it, but aside from feedback about it, and this post you made, your stuck with it or you ignore it.

And of course "Taste the Rainbow" Gawd I hate line.

    Nerd world problems.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".
