So... I did three of the dailies (the siege camps, the souls and the crafting) until I ran out of quests.
Then I opened the boxes and took screenshots of each one.
These are the 18 boxes that I opened. These are the 'once in a lifetime' rewards that you get for the dailies.
I pretty much deconstructed everything, sold the rest, learned the style page and the Haj Motas and ignored the rest.
I did get one motif page, but that was from the siege camp reward, and it took 15-20 camps to get it.
For a 'once in a lifetime' event... this is sad. Really, really sad.
From now on I'm just popping in to get the golden chests and that will it for the day.

What I find disturbing, is when I heard that PC NA was supposed to be in last place... this should also be VERY disturbing to ZOS! The fact that their largest player base is not even competitive (if true), should be worrying indeed.

New World just made their Angry Earth expansion free for everyone, while simultaneously dropping yet another completely free expansion in Nighthaven.

You’d almost have to be crazy NOT to be playing New World right now, I know I just picked it up.

Funny this. I actually had started playing New World a month before the Nighthaven expansion launched... and have to say I've been enjoying it a lot... to the fact of already having over 300 hours into it so far.

    This is completely manipulated though.

If I were ZOS, I'd absolutely try to set it up that a console server 'won,' especially since the winner gets to be the first to get into ESolstice, and Console is always getting things 2 weeks behind in the first place. It makes perfect sense for them to want to get a console server to win it so the consoles don't feel left out.

I wouldn't have the PC servers fully last though; that does make it look completely contrived. Also the NA servers are already feeling quite put-off because of the lack of an in-person event (when EU had their anniversary one, and then they still get yearly Taverns while NA only gets small things that attached to other conventions in the middle of a week with barely any notice. That means the only people who can go to NA 'events' are full-time content creators, while normal people can go to EU's events), so it does seem strange that they set it up such that all the NA servers are behind all of the EU ones.

Like, I just think that it's kinda grindy. It's also supposed to be about cooperation, but a lot of the time it's just players fighting over mobs to kill. While I appreciate harder bosses spawning in delves and public dungeons, I don't like that the boss spawns are locking me out from getting the achievements.

Like, overall I don't think that it feels like an epic event. It just feels like I'm standing in line waiting for stuff and grind.

I would love it if there were a way to determine current console population numbers. ZOS isn't about to release those numbers because one of the EU servers isn't exactly setting records. But I'd be interested to see the PSNA numbers over the past couple of years because it has been absolutely thriving with new/incoming players over the last 18 months or so.

I honestly wouldn't mind it so much if it was just seven camp defenses a day (and seven Vitrified Souls quests per day, which should be close to simultaneous with the seven camp defenses). Seven extra writs per day is just tiresome, though--not hard, just feels pointless.

But the seven fetch quests that put you in competition with other players for kills and then low drop rates on top of that? Utterly. And. Completely. Unacceptable. How do they keep repeating the same mistakes, especially mistakes this blindingly, painfully obvious, mistakes there was no defense for making the first time?

The drop rate on motifs has been fine. The drop rate on style pages has been fine. The drop rate on new furniture plans has been, once again, utterly and completely unacceptable. Are there any cool new non-plan furnishings? If so, I haven't seen one yet. Imagine trying to convince your players to do twenty-eight dailies per day and only giving them decent rewards in the first two or three boxes?

I'm genuinely starting to wonder why I've sunk eleven years of my free time into a game marked by an endless parade of baffling bad decisions.

Honestly, I find it kind of boring. The drops are 99% overland gear. The go fetch furs, sap, and such, have a really poor drop rate. The most fun I had was running public dungeons to kill off the replacement bosses as they were a bit tougher that the originals but that got old pretty quick.

Hope this is the last of this type of event, and the last of the Season Pass mode.

This event is boring. It's a a ridiculous grind for extremely poor drops that come at a worse drop rate. It seems to me that management on this game has really fallen on their faces. It seems like it's time to replace decision makers in several areas, including combat design and event design.

Phase 2 will have more attacks, that will help. There isn't much motivation to do quests besides for the daily motif and style for me. You cannot earn more than one a day.

They really need to fix the vitrified souls though, on my Arcanist it feels like they barely drop at the camps if there is high pop. 100% drop rate might make doing the repeats more bearable but I probably won't grind many.

I do look forward to the fortress attack though and getting to explore the rest of Solstice.

Each server has a different rate of completion for tasks, based on the population. The US may have more players, but not as much engagement in the event itstelf as the EU server. A mere 1% difference in participation would account for the difference.

Yeah. Basically, once you've completed the Golden Pursuits (and the Achievement for completing 30 siege camps)... there is literally no reason to do more than 1 of each quest per day, for the golden boxes.

I mean, what do we get in the blue boxes? Usually, a single piece from the overland outfits that most of us have long since completed the stickerbook on already. And, as likely as not, *nothing else*.

To be honest, the BLUE boxes need to have the gold boxes' level of rewards (apart from the Wormwrithe Style Pages), if one wants further engagement from players. The furniture plans, haj mota fragments and Stirk Fellowship motifs (and the Caltrops style fragments, which so far don't even appear to have started droping at all) need to come in the blue boxes, as well as the gold, *on a regular basis* - as in at least one such Thing, or two such Things, per box.

The idea was all right... but it goes on too long, for too little reward.

As for the "Supply" quests... Given that all the areas where such supply items can be found, are being heavily camped, and as such it's difficult to even find monsters in the areas at all before other people do, EVERY ELIGIBLE MONSTER SHOULD DROP AT LEAST 1 OF THE NEEDED ITEMS.

Like, killing 20 spriggans and lurchers to get only 3 pieces of golden sap - and those are the ones that actually dropped *something*, i.e. I did enough damage to them to qualify for a loot drop (as opposed to them dying in a flash and I didn't even manage to hit them). That means 19 spriggans and lurchers dropped loot, but not golden sap. I do not believe this is good design.

(Even though the next pair of spriggans suddenly dropped 3 each, which put me over the 8 needed... All the "plot coupon" items seem to come in clusters: it's nothing for ages and then suddenly all of them come along in succession.)

I'm sorta embarrassed by the player base for this negative feedback... What do we usually get with an expansion- a middling introductory quest to connect the two new zones? Instead we have a main storyline continuance, dungeons monsters temporarily updated all across Tamriel reflecting the invasion, and we have three distinct stages of an event connecting the two zones you usually get with an expansion. The repeatables are like a festival thrown in on top of that.

I am personally happy that the repeatables are easy to do. I don't want to have everything very involved because sometimes I want to watch tv while I play and sometimes I want to be focused with the game as the entertainment or challenge.

It was a very cool way to introduce two halves of a zone and the story is engaging and also feels impactful on the world rather than just another expansion spliced on.

To the fans who are so critical of a third of a segue of the yearly content: get a grip. To the devs: this is a good additional direction provided that the creativity continues on multiple fronts.

Have you actually read through why people are complaining? Apparently not, from your post.

The majority of players are unhappy as this was pushed as a ‘once in a lifetime’ game event, and frankly, it is far from that.

The drop rates, the rewards, the tedium of the daily fetch x quests - all make this an awful disappointment when it could have been really something interesting & special.

If you are enjoying it, great for you.

Most aren’t. And that is something the devs should be taking note of.

Why exactly? You're not some arbiter of what others are feeling. Players are customers, they paid for this product, and if they're unhappy with the product provided, it's quite normal to express that, and particularly to provide constructive criticism, which *many* players have done about the event.

If you're enjoying it, that's great and you should provide that feedback and keep enjoying it.

As I said in another post recently, [most of the] people providing negative feedback aren't trying to be malicious, they do it because they care about the game and want to see it go in [in their opinion, at least] a better direction.

Zos isn't my friend and I'm not here to be fake nice to them and shower the world with positivity and flower petals and pretend everything's great if I don't believe that's true. It's important that they hear opinions from all players, good or bad.

The alternative is that unhappy players just leave in silence, which many do, and which is way worse for the game because it provides no actionable information that could be used to do better in the future.

    [Edit for typo].

People would be more inclined to like the event if they didn't feel ripped off from all the other cut content this year, consider the context, if it was extra on an already good year, this would be great, but it's not. I don't care if they want to use the excuse that this is a "transition year", we're paying customers. They really banked on this event keeping players around, when boiled down, it's just more of the same, fetch/crafting/world boss quests, trying to entice players with FOMO, except the rewards suck.

I'll take my business elsewhere for the time being and hope they get back on track for 2026, but I know a lot more people are less patient than I am, most have probably quit for good.

Look at some of the basic things we're missing this year that we received previous years:
    • New companion (2024)
    • New arena (2023 IA, 2024 IA expansion)
    • New Q4 zone (Eastern Solstice is just the 2nd half of a chapter zone)
    • New Tales of Tribute Deck (2024)
    • New Grimoire/Scripts (2024)
    • Server wide yearly events are not new, they've been free, rewarding a house by the end just like this one, except we weren't sold on it through a chapter, they've been hyping this up for literally 6 months.
    • Not nearly enough class, skill, and set balance. More important than ever with subclassing, leaving over 60% of the skill lines dead and the meta stale.
    • Major base game improvements. We got mount swiming and consumables during channel/cast time this year. Last 2 years we got BG 2.0, Group Finder, and House Tours... subjective, but those seem much more substantial to me.
    • Still waiting on Hybridization and Overland Difficulty, 4 years and counting.
    • No new chapter mechanic, subclassing counts, but it was technically free, further deflating the value in our Content Pass purchase.

I'm sorry if this comes across as combative, but I have to say it. Your standards are way too low for a game thats been in developement for 18 years, under one of the largest companies and gaming IP's in the world, that is what is "embarrassing".

Good for you that are enjoying this event. Most people in this thread don't.

Let me say I am a constant player since the beta. I have played through all the expansions, I have seen a lot in ESO. I really love the game, and I also love the housing system. So, my criticism is very friendly, I supported this game with my sub for so many years, and applauded each time they open a new zone.

What you are saying above is true, the story continues, the invasion affects every area of the world, the devs came up with this wall which most likely wasn't easy to do from a technical point of view.

However, as someone who has played the content, and especially events - I usually don't skip any event - trust me when I say, this isn't something new or original. Don't look at the wall, just see the reskinned dolmens, fetch quests, and grind for loot boxes. I get it there will be something else in later phases, but people who have done this a lot of times, are bored already.
And it's fine as another event like Witches, when you do bosses and delves for more lootboxes, we all love and hate that, but otherwise it doesn't inspire me. The event doesn't make me feel there is any real danger to Solstice, let alone to Tamriel. Maybe it would have been different if we had invading world bosses in the main capitals, the skybox change, undo some planemeld in cities in real time and so on. I wish it was different. I paid for this pass more than for last year's DLC, and can't say I am having more fun, or this content will be memorable as Summerset or Orsinium.

Also a "since beta" player, and I do try not to be negative, but no.

This "one time only" event has no real difference to other events, except: you can do the dailies multiple times, you are penalised for doing all 4 dailies once (only 3 glorious boxes available), if you're the 13th person in an area, you're penalised on drops, sorry--everyone do this but not everyone, thanks! And no tickets, of course, so you can't pick up stuff you miss later, because RNG is RNG.

Also: one-time only event, so if you haven't had time to play Solstice yet.... Was not amused with the spoilers.

    Who spoils their own game?

ZOS need to go back to basics. Human psychology and dopamine hits are not just about FOMO, they're also about tangible rewards. If you have the first w/o the second, welp... things don't work. Like this event.

Tbh, I had pretty low expectations of this event, going into it I assumed it would be like any other event: do a thing, get a box. To my surprise, it was worse than a standard event, because we got basically a fraction of the rewards of other events. No tickets, no materials, no currency, just a piece of gear. Maybe 1 of the same 3 or 4 Stirk plans if lucky. As others have pointed out, we get better rewards from daily writs.

I'm sitting phase 1 out (I already did my bit the first few days), hopefully phase 2 and 3 will be either more fun or more rewarding.

My point is that the comparison is flawed and everyone is acting out of false comparisons... You are all acting like this 1/3 of an event is itself 'The Yearly Pass'... it's not- it's just a single link in a chain between the two zones of an 'expansion'. My further point is it is much more than we used to get in that capacity in the past (small little introduction quests). We can't compare the 'season pass' vs. 'expansion' until we have the full content which is now like 50-65% known. I like the new format better and it is weird that anyone would be critical of it. It will be fine to say as a whole the new 'season pass' is worse than the prior 'expansions'- but we aren't there yet.

I will concede that you have a point in that we dont have the full content out yet but let me bring up some counter points that I think highlights where most people are comming from.

For most players how the season pass model differs from prior releases is that, eventually you can access all portions of content by either getting it later either as a crown purchase, eso plus, or as a chapter. But the point is that it was going to be avaliable.
Now for the bulk of the season pass, that is still the case. However, the one thing that wont be there is the Writhing Wall event. This was hyped and sold as a "must be there". This event WAS and is the primary selling point of the pass. Its the reason why you should feel the need to buy it now, vs next year. Its the driving force behind it. The main event.

Imagine going to a concert with 3 acts in it. With the concert being advertised as the final performance of a popular band. It gets hyped and tickets get sold, you buy one. You attend. Opening act is awesome! You stick around. But when you get to the main act ( the reason you went) instead of a live performance they play a video broadcast of that bands last concert that is available to view online for free.

Now in that scenario, would the final act matter at that point? Would you start complaining after the concert or start right away? Would you walk out in disgust? To many they would do so right away.

Ultimately, I think thats where the frustrations lay here and what's different from the past. Players were sold on something being special, when really its not all that special.

You could make an argument that the community events that were chapter specific of years past were more special than this one, were you dont have to own the chapter to get all of the items.

Please correct me if I am wrong but the only thing you can't get by not owning the pass and doing this event is the new title, and to get that its not just owning the chapter but you have to clear the wall fortress which you will have 1 week to do.

So, ya players are upset. And going to be.

I personally do not. But I'm critical about the marketing speech and hyping that happened. I didn't have high expectations because if I read about things being spectacular, world-changing and whatnot, it immediately makes me sceptical. But still - I don't like this way of advertising content and would have prefered something more descriptive and factual, even if it doesn't sound as spectacular. I don't think announcing it as "a new world event type, one world boss and one open dungeon as well as some repeatable quests about crafting or collecting material for the Fellowship" would have sounded that bad (they could have even adorned it with a bit of lore flavor text when presenting it). People would have known what it's about and could have made a decision whether they find that worthwhile or not.

The big problem I see with the whole situation is that the announcement led to huge expectations in many people that the event couldn't meet. Other things I personally criticize about the event are the bad drop rates and the bugs. But other than that, I wrote it earlier, from my point of view it's an okay event (nothing extraordinary, getting repetative fast, but it's on par with the usual events, or even a bit more content, considering the dungeon that will come in phase 3) - and there would be nothing to complain about if they had just announced it as such.

I have already finished the whole content of this year on PTS. And what I can say is that it takes between 5 and 6 hours at most to play the main story - West and East Solstice together, including the epilogue that follows. That's short compared to earlier stories. Side quests don't change much about that either. If I had to estimate, I'd say this whole year's story content was smaller in scope than the usual winter story dlcs were (Markarth, Firesong, Deadlands, etc - which were sold back then as having 15 hours of story content). Though my main complaint is the writing and lore, but that's a different topic not fitting into this thread.
