This event could be a case study in “how to overpromise, underdeliver and not heed any callouts the community made months in advance” (since several of the issues were in fact posted in PTS feedback threads months ago).

Give the people what we really want, a Winterhold expansion in Skyrim. We never got to see it in its full glory in TES V, its basically untouched, and zos can do whatever they want with it storywise, and make up for the story in Solitude which was meh and had nothing really to do with Nords at all, and for the love of Shor, no more of this oh we have an island conveniently divided by three cultures representing every faction slop.

Y'all can do better. Thats what made me wait to see if the content would be worth playing and seems that its a good thing I did.

I am tempted to get eso plus for a month to store all this furniture in the furniture vaults tho.

I'm completing the event only out of some vague sense of obligation for the rewards. It's simply not fun to play. Fetch quests as far as the eye can see.

I can't answer that with a yes or no. It's nice to experience a new atmosphere at the camps, created by the large number of players hanging out there (you really get the feeling something's being organized), but the quests themselves are just boring and uninspired, like necessary laundry and dishwashing.
But there's also something good about it, because now I know I won't miss much if I don't get to play in the next two weeks.

So far it's meh. I'm not particularly reward motivated beyond gear for character builds and that isn't what's here, so for me it's more about the moment to moment tasks and they're pretty menial (or the siege camps which are so chaotic you barely get to register what's going on).

Like I'll do one round daily until we flip over to phase 2, but I'm not going to chase it.

Solstice is a boring rehash of reused assets, and not exactly representing either culture respectfully. Instead of actually combining the themes to make something new they just placed existing assets side by side and we paid them for it with the Content Pass… we can do the exact same thing with housing.

Long term player opinion, Design seems pretty meh.

Why seige camps and a wall when it's a dolmen?

How does me bringing stuff back break down the wall? What am i defending? A guy reading a book? Oh wait, I've seen a brief flash of yellow light.

Probably just me, but I thought I might get to throw siege at the wall or kill mobs running over the wall.

Guess I'll just keep killing underfed trolls and spriggans to support the war effort.

this is the worst event so far
    • you have to fight other players for kills to get the quest items, mobs spawn far too slowly, and not every mob drops a thing
    • the siege camps are bugged a lot, most of the time you won't make it in time to one that is up if you're not close by. and if you stay at one to wait it out, it's highly likely that it won't even start, and auto disappear right after (which just happened to me 3 times in a row at 2 different camps).
    • the blue box rewards are trash (I already had full sticker book). there's no reason to do more than the gold box quest.

Not enjoying it all and frankly regret buying the content pass!!! The drop rates are absolutley Horrible and boring quests I went several spots on the map and it still took an hour to collect 8 of the furs or fats via quest giver. They state drop rates are as it should be but I find hard to believe when you kill over 40 enemies and not 1 drop. ALSO I want to state I literally have gotten 2 of the promised drops from the boxes. I keep getting the same random overland gear and almost ALL of the boxes is giving 1 yes ONE item. I manage to get 2 or 3 items in the Gold boxes but nothing to make it worth the HOURS of grinding on only 2 toons to get! SIMPLY TAKES FAR TOO LONG to do these quests.
Also the progress bar on the map is an AWFUL IDEA! Ive put in 2 tickets for it. I literally want to shut the game down because it impeades the viewing of the mini map! The only way to remove it is to go into big map and back out. Once I go in or out of a building or use a shrine its right back. I have asked if they could please move the bar to where our quests go...like where they put golden pursuits! I hope they rework that if anything lol
I can only hope they read the distain most players have for this LIFE CHNAGING EVENT and do some serious rehab for the other phases.
I have noticed players being helpful and offering a group to manage the low drop rates but even in groups the numbers still take a minute to get. Even through the frustraion I think we are having more fun laughing at how broken this event is. They pumped it up sooooo much but cant seem to handle the amount of us eager and waiting for this moment!

Im hanging on hope that Phase 2 is better, if not Zos will never get a content pass purchase from me again!

They’re intentionally making players who didn’t buy Solstice suffer, and it’s honestly demeaning. If it weren’t for one of my friends still playing, I’d have uninstalled without hesitation. It’s obvious they want everyone to buy the overpriced expansion. The problem isn’t the price, it’s the value compared to what they’re asking for. They forgot that competition exists, newer games give far more content and even free expansions. They call it a “choice,” but it’s just punishment for not buying the content pass, with horrible RNG and super random spawn rates. The Soul Reaper thing is just one example out of many.

All the good parts are locked behind Solstice. I promised myself I wouldn’t spend another dime after getting screwed by the deluxe edition that didn’t include “everything from previous chapters” like it claimed. The smaller DLCs are still sold separately. It’s $80, and other new games with better graphics, animation , ui , story , and all actually give everything for that price. I had to spend another $20 each for the missing stuff, and it left a terrible taste in my mouth. I’m done. I’m not paying double for what I already own. Solstice is full of recycled assets, and it’s not worth touching for the price they’re asking. My friend is really the only reason why i stayed XD so it a blessing and a curse

Ohhhhh dont you worry, I bought it and I know several of us who have a ABSOLUTLEY SUFFERING! Its horrible and not missing a ton. You can get alot of the quests done outside of that zone but you need to group and they need to share the quest (I THINK). So if you have a guild and they are willing it wouldnt hurt to ask to group. Alot of us are now grouping to just get them done but the rewards are not the greatest. Heck I could littleraly save gold and buy the pages later at a trader cause its less annoying LOL

Two disclosures which influence my vote/reply; I've worked in the industry as an event manager for an MMO, and I got Solstice for free from a kind friend.

But I still had to vote no, it's very disappointing.

I'm somewhat sympathetic to the limited, repeated content element of the event as, at least in my experience, there are usually programmers, who set the tools you have, and designers who use those tools to give you content. And if ESO is being run on a shoestring the designers won't have many if any new tools and just have to dress up stuff they already can use in new ways... that's how it was on Ultima Online for we EMs. But that also doesn't change the players experience of the content, let alone make it right. I suspect ESO is making a lot of money for someone, what with the FOMO and Whale addiction targetting practices, and it's not filtering down toward development. And that's extremely disappointing. I want to be kind to the Devs no doubt getting reamed on both sides, justifiably from the players who experience dull, repetitive content they've already seen before, and no doubt from staff elsewhere who say things like "Pretend it's all awesome, describe it as world changing, sell this crap so we can buy another lamborghini"... but at the end of the day, you're here to provide something wonderful for the players; either poop or get off the pot.

And secondly, despite getting it for free, if even I am feeling the value content of this event is poor, then it's shocking they've charged a season pass amount for this; again, blame the Whales and the FOMO addicted for allowing the industry to exploit their unhealthy behavioural patterns, but ESO still is responsbile for the effort they put in, and it's very, very bad.

Solstice is tiny, sparsely populated and landscapped, and the event is not only badly designed but even the bugs are irredeemably bad; revealing the animation for attacking the gate in a later stage everytime you access the teleport to the Solstice camp? Having the Stage 2 World Boss spawn in Stage 1, but not give the associated rewards? How is every bug a disappointing spoiler? How to you set drop rates to be so low for the only quest that will be camped to buggery, remove the golden chest from it showing you know how frustrating it is... then leave the frustration of drops in? How do you openly show that the Event "Progress" is being fiddled to stall for time, and not pull that out of the design so as not to frustrate your player base? Do the Devs not understand what playing for enjoyment is any more, is it all marketing and behaviour exploitation now?

As the details of where the drops becomes more known by the player base, I moved over to Delve bosses to try and get some furniture at least. Even there the drops are low, respawn rates are long, and a few of them have abilities to murder solo players. Again, industry experience, I know the logic behind why you put drop rates low on mass engagement events; you hope to encourage trading between players, which will allow lucky newbies to trade at current Gold value rates and catch up. But that logic is hopelessly outdated in an age of online grifting and price fixing etc. There's a reason a lot of MMOs have moved away to personal progress instead, and that's because players just prefer to play at their own pace, and make their own luck...

Now I blitzed the GP in 4 hours, because despite only playing for maybe 2 years, I already knew all the cheesy methods to maximise return from the same old content. But I'll never use the mount or pet because they are (subjectively) ugly, and doesn't fit my personal/roleplay needs. I don't feel anything much about achieving them, when I should feel delighted in working towards the goal. Which is how a truly "world changing" event should treat you in game; why is the reward fixed, where are the "Choose your own reward" tokens so people can pick their own mount, something they'd actually want, as a thank you for finally defeating the Worm Cult, say? I know why they aren't in game of course, but even MMOs that follow the Whale-Soaking model, like Star Trek Online, will give you free "Any top end ship" tokens during events, knowing it's just one out of hundreds available. ESO can't even manage that grudging easing of predatory behaviour.

And there are to be weeks of this? With no change now until Stage 3? Urgh.

This is bad. ESO, do better by your players.

This kinda made me sad. It encapsulates nicely the many voices here, reddit, on ESO IG posts, in guild discords and in game.

It's almost like the community manager doesn't actually bring our feedback to the team beyond cherry picked things that support the bosses vision. This post should be on the new directors desk tomorrow morning for him to read and start figuring things out on how to fix the camps and start having the rewards actually drop. There is an amazing worm cult house going to be on sale for 80 or 100 dollars with update 48 which should be the capstone reward for this event. Like the arteaum villa, the antiquity lodge, the haven of the 5 companions or the Elswyer one. Put some of those amazing worm cult furnishing plans in the crates, crank up the RNG of the stuff that should already be in there. Then figure out how not to have something like happen in the future. We paid for this. This is the big thing that was supposed to make getting far less content for the year, worth it. I don't even mind the event, I'll grind for sure. Just make it worth it.

I found some good spots that are working for me gathering the quest items. But no, I don‘t enjoy anything about this event.
It‘s boring and the rewards are bad.
The Golden Pursuit was done within the first 24 hours without any effort or challenge and now I‘m just bored.
Worst event ever. Even Jester‘s or New Life were more fun and I hate those „Do exactly the same stuff every day every year again and again“ events.

Thank you lmao, Winterhold has something for everyone, and anyone who played the original game remembers the Winterhold we got was pretty lame, it having the College there for mages gives it plenty of potential for not just Nords but everyone else, and its a major city in the region. Getting to see it in its glory would be fantastic. Back in the day Skyrim players all agreed on this, dunno why that other person was so aggro over Nord love lmao but it doesn't matter, TES fans would eat that *** up.

ZOS changed its business model this year. Less content for more money. In addition, they eliminated all zone events that ran on a proven model. This event came later and with a smaller discount than usual. And what did we get?

A combination of RND and competing for resources, two most hated aspect of quest in one package.
RND so you don't know how many trolls you'll have to kill to get 8 fats, 3 or 50.
Competing for resources, so all trols are perma death, so good luck to kill some. The valley, once full of wolves and bears, where you came for the skins, is now a landscape full of corpses. No wolves, no bears.

But this is nothing that should surprise ZOS. ESO has encountered these problems in the past. ZOS has partially dealt with them in the design of the latest locations. But during this event, we have them back in the worst possible form.

So I have to ask myself. Is this the message "Don't invest in this older then 10 year old game anymore money"? Yes, that's exactly what I hear from the developers when I play this event.

If things remain on the current level, what you'd get would be an uninspired story with clichéd characters in front of a nice backdrop. If that's enough for you: Have fun.

My original post addresses this, the western skyrim dlc was a mixed bag where the side content and lore was actually pretty good, better than og skyrim in a lot of cases especially when it comes to cultural lore, but the main quest was pretty vanilla and lame.

Obviously I'd prefer that not be the case, I'm not sure why they decided to go vampires and werewolves, then include nothing unique about Nords in relation to them. Nords have werebears and a unique vampire clan with frost magic abilities and instead of at least mentioning this they just made it all a universal bland mix of one strain more or less. Like if you want an amalgamation of the shapeshifters at least highlight the differences and dynamic of the different strains, their culture and politics. Why do vampires have their own "gothic lol" style in architecture yet no mention of any of this?

Its especially odd to me since in Vvardenfell, Summerset Isles and Elsweyr, the main quest in these zones include a lot of cultural mentions and lore additions included, then Skyrim comes in and.... nothing. Its all in the sidequests.

That's why I feel like we need another visit to Skyrim, it was done the most poorly last time and we still have a few regions we haven't revisited that could be done much better.

To bring it back on topic, why are we making up locations with lore that doesn't make sense on a random island off on the southern border with three cultures that should never even exist in this way when there's still so much ground to cover in Tamriel proper? Its so low effort and transparent, it's painful.
