I love them both.

Honestly, they seem like perfect monetization strategies to customize our games, and I’d like to see ZOS do more.

Skill Styles are for Combat and Customised Actions are not so i don't think they are comparable.
i like them both.

I haven‘t found any customized action that fits my taste better than the vanilla ones yet.
But I like skill styles to make all the skills from any tree (guilds, weapons,…) fit my char’s main theme.

This is my take. They are differnt things that serve differnt purposes.

Fundamentally though both allow for greater character expression, which is odd becaue the OP created a post wanting the abilty to turn off seeing other players characer/mount expressions.

I like Customized actions to fine tune my avatars style. So a mage characer will use a mage recall, and magical gathering customized actions like the rune morph, the meteor that is called down for ore (god I love that one), anything to make his gathering feel like a magic user. Same can go for a stamina "warrior" type with more physical gathering customized actions.

Skill styles are nice when they are like the wall of elements leaves, that thing is amazing (sucks it cant be used for healing staff though in some way). But skill styles that are just recolors like the sorc pet look TERRIBLE, I mean absolutely terrible. The recolors do not work so well. The templar jabs blue still looks white/yellowish with a mild hint of blue. The Arcanist blue is better, but still not as effective as the green. The recolors just look rushed.

ZOS really needs to get away from the single color, bright colors like the breton hero, nord hero, and altmer hero colors (stellar statues, unless you turn them on). Same with the gargoyle mount red wings, I mean anything that is just splashes that solid bright color light looks bad. I say this as someone who oversaw a team of 3D artists as their art director. It might be cheap to produce, but it also cheapens the game. There is no such thing as a free lunch. You either put in the effort, or you don't but not putting in the effort is never going to result in anything spectacular.

ZOS could go deep into skill styles, but unless they offer them as a package deal for reasonable amounts, I am not sure they will ever take off in any serious way. If I want to make my arcanist blue, then I need ot be able to do so on all skills and frankly even the icons.

I posted this in another thread, but the comment pertains to what I'd like to see regarding skill styles.

Subclassing was done wrong imo.

What should have happened is that when a skill line is taken from a class and used on another, the effects/animations/sounds all reflect that core class.

For example: Lets use the Warden DPS skill line with the Bear ultimate. If you were to use that skill line on a sorc, the bear would now be some daedroth. If you used the skill line on a nightblade, the bear would be a shadow of the player. If you used the bear ultimate on a templar, it would be one of those golden dudes seen randomly in Solstice (I dont now what they are called), if you used the skill line on an Arcanist, you'd get another tenticle eyeball guy.

The icons, and heck even names along with the graphics, animation should have been changed to work with the primary class being used on. That would have at least kept some form of class identity and things would feel cohesive.

As it stands, its all a frankenstein miss match of stuff that looks ridiculous.

These are 2 completely different things lol. Doesn't make much sense to me.

I'd like more to be added in both sections, especially with subclassing. That way you can make actions seem more akin to what you view your character as.

I use customized actions all the time. I've pretty much ignored scribing up to this point, except for doing the excellent scribing questline.

Skill styles at the moment are simple recolours, and I haven't found them interesting. Customised actions, though not always to my taste, introduce genuinely interesting variants, with different props like leaves, animations, weapons and even a battering ram.

If they gave us skill styles with different animations I might use them, but do far I haven't even bothered, aside from slotting one for an endeavor, and immediately reverting to original afterwards.

I would prefer for them to spend as much effort on the skill styles as they do on the customizable actions. The meteor mining and the lightning wood chopping look better than any skill out there. As a matter of fact, we’re way overdue for VFX updates to all skills so they don’t look a pixelated mess from yesteryear. That’s what I’d like to see!

Love these both, but it highly depends on which ones specifically. Some of the recall customized actions are amazing, and I am also loving the sorc's red lightning form skill style for example.

I'm more interested in customised actions, as the skill styles are barely noticeable.

But I'm disappointed other players can't see the harvesting animations. I wonder why not, if we can see their recalls?

It does show other players, but you have to have "Show Additional Ally Effects" on inside of the video settings. This is on PC at least.

I just tested this with my wife. In group, or out of group did not matter, she could see the customized actions I am using. She called out the graphic (lighting thing for wood, the blue rune beam for rune stones, the meteor for metal, etc).
