My only complaint and I've seen several new players commenting the same is that "Scribing" sound awfully similar to "Scrying". Especially to non-native English speakers. Mixing them up is common.

I'm surprised how many people are complaining about this. It seems pretty childish. I paid for it, enjoyed it, and am happy more people are now going to experience it. We should celebrate the wins when we get them. Thanks ZOS.

Will Gold Road owners before this change get something? because some of us bought the expansion for the scribing system.

Not if they're doing the same as when they did it with Vvardenfell. It's a lesson I learned back at that time. Yep, kinda burned going down because they could have at least recognized who their supporting customers were, but no. Like a simple pet or furnishing is all it would take; stuff they give away from time to time anyway, but exclusive to those who purchased Vvardenfell or in this case, Gold Road. Look at it this way, everything will eventually be free in the game. You will feel better about this and probably save money too.

I bought West weald pre order so I have no dog in this fight. Folks must be very new to mmo's though. This is how it works. Yesterdays hot new thing becomes tomorrow's base game feature. This is pretty standard, though of course sometimes it doesn't happen. Jewelry crafting and mythics come to mind but with subclassing coming, having spell crafting come with it seems normal. We got it exclusive for the year. I'm not sure why they would owe anyone any kind of loyalty gift. This is a trend we should embrace. Bring jewelry and antiquity system to base game. Let's get more stuff base game, maybe help bring more people in the door. Would it be nice if they gave us something? Sure it would, but I can't understand folks who are upset. Just one guys opinion though.

People who 'paid for scribing' seem to forget they also got the new zone and the mythic items that comes with it.
I bought it on two of my accounts and I'm not complaining.

Hi everyone! We wanted to share some information about an upcoming change to how players can obtain the Scribing system.
    • Scribing is coming to the base game, free for all players as a claim in the Crown Store, in mid-July with an associated Golden Pursuit! You will see Scribing in the Crown Store on the PTS on Monday as part of this testing.
    • We are not selling Scribing in the Crown Store.
    • If you miss the associated Golden Pursuit, you will still be able to claim Scribing from the Crown Store, as this is a permanent move for it to the base game.
    • There will be a short window from June to July with the launch of Update 46 and the Gold Road zone moving to ESO Plus and the Crown Store where players who do not currently own Scribing will not be able to purchase/gain access to it.
    Thank you!

If I own scribing now, and I roll a new character after U46 I will or will not be able to do the scribing quest on that new character, until mid-July?

Purchased Gold Road for scribing, but I'm happy that it's coming to the base game. Will this also mean we can expect some more scribing skills to use in our builds? I feel like there's a world of possibilities not being take advantage of and it's a waste. Not a complaint, but I do think the system is underused and needs more skills

I don't know why people complain and want compensation. This is a good thing for regular players, especially new ones that will experience a new side of ESO. This coming from someone who has bought all chapters instead of using ESO+. Not everyone can afford to buy Gold Road.

People just like complaining. They also feel entitled to keep features forever and hold them out against others because they bought them earlier. It's not like it comes as a shock that these things will eventually come to the base game. People just need to relax

(I say this as someone who bought Gold Road/Scribing at launch as well)

When I play an MMO, I buy all of the (non cosmetic) content because I dislike having to think about if I can or cannot do something as I do various activities throughout the game world. Therefore, I would have purchased Gold Road regardless of any disclaimers.

Also, I have always advocated strongly for ZOS to move things to base game faster, as divisions amongst the community can impact the experience of playing with friends. So no "sour grapes" over here from me in that department, either.

Keep in mind the above two points when I say that this seems like a really weird choice. I don't like it, mainly because it is becoming more and more confusing as to what the content strategy is for the game. There is lots of older content that seems way overdue for a base game transition. We've got the idea of this season pass, we've got ESO+, and we've got older content that new players still would need to buy separately, and things are sliced and diced in such a way that we've reached the point where I couldn't explain it to someone I was trying to recruit to the game if I tried.

Why Scribing before other things? Why so fast? Are there more plans in the works to change how other content is accessed? There have been other things that people could claim (like through Daily Rewards). Will you make it so all of that previously released content can be permanently claimed in the Crown Store, too, like you're doing with Scribing? Why or why not? Can you please release more DLC dungeons into base game so there is a bigger pool of players to queue for them? Considering that Subclassing was just released and made into base game, wouldn't it have made more sense to release the paid classes into base game instead, or as well, since their absence directly impacts the Subclassing feature, while Scribing is completely independent?

I just have so many questions. I don't mind, at all, that everyone gets Scribing for free now, but I wish there was a clearer strategy and a consistent cycle or method to this madness. Like, perhaps all paid content could transition to base after a year? Or each type of content transitions on a schedule. I don't know. It just all kind of feels like a mess.

If I had to guess: For the same reason that subclassing is free and not a paid feature.

There is a lot of potential power locked behind scribing and subclassing, more so than just access to a handful of item sets from a zone or dungeon DLC.

It's just better for balance and for avoiding "P2W" accusations.

I've got multiple friends who have returned to test subclassing, only to find out they cannot access scribing. It's pretty insane that you'd introduce a huge combat update to "shake things up" and bring people back, only to lock them out of a crucial core combat system for over a month on their return.

These people aren't sticking around for a month so they can begin their scribing grind, which is a lengthy one with quite a bit of RNG and time gating involved. They're just uninstalling again.

I think it's so people don't pay for it only to have it be free two days later. This is actually something I can understand and support. I got scribing when West weald dropped and I fully support it going base game but it'd be pretty scummy to leave it buyable right up until it's free don't you think?

So to be clear, these friends weren't playing the game already, didn't care enough about scribing to get Gold Road when it came out, and are now uninstalling the game because they didn't have free access to the something they already didn't have? Couldn't they just...wait then come back again and have lost nothing?

The game indicated nothing about this. Quite the contrary. In-game, it is clearly stated that
    1. The Gold Road Chapter is required to unlock Scribing and
    2. Purchasing the chapter will unlock Scribing

There is no information at all to indicate to a subscriber that Scribing will not be available when it accepts the purchase for the chapter.

A support ticket sends me to this forum, a day later. My request for a refund was ignored.

This is the worst customer experience I have ever had with any product or service. It is totally unacceptable for the game to explicitly offer features and accept payment for them, but not deliver those features.

Scribing coming to the basegame is an odd choice considering it hasn't even been out for a year yet. I would've expected Jewelry crafting or Warden to have been made free first. Scribing was the only reason to buy Gold Road

It wasn't the reason at all for me to buy Gold Road. I love the questline (and have played it over and over on many alts) but have zero use for scribing itself (the same way I never had any use for spellcrafting....)

It was the reason I bought Gold Road, because the game told me it was required for scribing. After I made the purchase and did the quest, I reached a point where a dialog sent me to the crown store and never had any indication that Scribing would not be available. The game took my payment and very clearly indicated that Scribing would be available and that this purchase was required in order to have Scribing. I only learned this information after making a support ticket still believing that it was a bug and not just a deliberate ripoff.

In July, Scribing will be added to Base Game. So as long as you own the Base Game, that is all you will need to use the system going forward.

But I purchased Gold Road yesterday, specifically to unlock Scribing. The in-game information still says the Gold Road expansion is required for scribing (which is fair until Scribing reaches the base game) and that the purchase will unlock Scribing (which it will not, which is blatant false advertising.)

I've asked for a refund of my crowns in my support ticket, and that request was ignored.

I did this YESTERDAY. Purchased Gold Road in order to unlock Scribing. Crown store clearly indicated that Gold Road was required for Scribing and also that the purchase would unlock Scribing. Made the purchase, did the quest, and can't enter the Scholarium. I thought this might be a bug or something so I made a support ticket. That was how I learned that you can't get Scribing today EVEN IF YOU PURCHASE THE EXPANSION.

I'm quite upset about being ripped off in this way. I don't care that it's going to be free in a month, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that the game explicitly says the customer will receive something, accepts payment with not warning, and only then did I discover that the content would be locked despite having paid for it.

My request for a crown store refund was totally ignored.

I was sent to this forum where I'll keep complaining until I'm either compensated or banned.

I paid for it, because the game told me it was required to unlock Scribing.
