Is there any particular reason you think people wouldn't keep doing it?
But...can't you socialize either way? What's the difference between fishing on your own and fishing with others? I mean aside from the mechanics of course. Plus there's the fact that every couple of seconds you have to Interrupt what you're typing to reel in. That might not have been a big deal in the past, when you could just get right back to what you were saying afterward, but with the chat bug that deletes your input if you click off it or change tabs...it's kind of hard to really type until the Hole dries up.spartaxoxo wrote: »Is there any particular reason you think people wouldn't keep doing it?
The curation kind of destroys the social aspect of fishing. The reason to bring more people was simply to socialize as you pulled up duplicates (and to increase odds but that's less important with buffs and unimportant with curation). Curation takes the time spent from few hours to as low as 15 minutes, depending on the zone/type of fish. The fishing mechanic is not engaging. So, I see a lot less people doing it as the social engagement aspect dies out. At first they'll probably be a spike of interest as the long term players grab up their master angler titles. Once that dies out though, I imagine the activity will as well as it becomes less social.
I'm not a fan of "if you don't like it then ignore it" arguments, because the thing is, people would often like to enjoy things but certain pain points keep them from being able to. For me, it's the fact that you can spend 10 hours at one Hole for a one specific Fish, or you can spend 10 minutes and get it. That's not having patience, it's putting up with cruddy RNG.Curation would take the fun out of fishing. It's an activity that requires patience. And it's optional if you don't enjoy it. Occasional events like this one are welcome, but I wouldn't want to see curation permanent.

Not changing something because there are people who like things how they are means nothing in an MMO would ever change, for better or for worse. Of course there are people who won't be happy with any given change, people who prefer certain things to remain a certain way.I'm not a fan of "if you don't like it then ignore it" arguments, because the thing is, people would often like to enjoy things but certain pain points keep them from being able to.
But in an MMO, you have to consider that other people like it exactly as it is, and if the activity were to be changed to your liking, then they would like it less. There are activities I don't do in ESO because of pain points, but I'm aware that if the activity were to change to please me, it would turn off other players who currently enjoy it. So I just don't do those activities or only do them if the rewards are something I really, really want. Fortunately, fishing doesn't offer much in rewards. It's more for the satisfaction of getting it done, which is why making it even easier than it already is would ruin it for me.
As you said yourself, fun is subjective. For me, curated RNG would make fishing too easy and there'd be no satisfaction when you finally get a fish you want. While I loved getting IC done because it would have been a pain otherwise in a PvP area, I wouldn't want fishing to be like that all the time.
I've completed all the fishing achievements, and fishing is one of the easier activities. I never once had to fish for hours and hours in a zone. If you slot the right champion nodes, eat the right food, and get Sharp's perk (though he's optional -I didn't have him when I did the master angler title), fishing is already really easy compared to other RNG activities. Bring a friend or two along and it's even easier. Making it even easier by curating rare fish would make it completely meaningless and I'd rather they just removed it from the game in that case.

If I may ask, can you not still fish for fun even after getting the achieves?
I just think it would be nice for other people to not have to go through a bunch of hoops to cut down on RNG but still have the chance that RNG will heck you over.

I'm happy for them, but I sure wish I could get a new title: "Got Master Angler in 2017."

Sometimes I think the beauty of the world gets lost when people are talking about ESO‘s problems, but it is always there waiting in the background to be rediscovered. 😊

I kind of wish PC had voice chat, with how annoying the current chat bug is...it's especially annoying trying to talk to people while fishing since you never know if you're going to have time between cast and reel to get a whole sentence out, so you have to wait between casts to type.spartaxoxo wrote: »But...can't you socialize either way? Oh. I missed this before but I just want to say that since I'm on console, we'd be using voice chat. Voice chat is built into console so you don't have to use a third party app for that. You can just join guild chat and new people can come in and out.
And no, nobody's waiting around for groups of people for a 15 minute task. A lot of these social activities are things that take enough time to actually get to hang out and aren't too difficult. It's nice to check off a task with others sometimes. Current fishing works well for that.
Do you have an advice for me, I fished allready several hours in Artaeum, but did not get 'Artaeum Takeaway Broth' and the 'Hissmir Fish-Eye Rye' recipie =(..... The takeaway broth is a rare drop, might be easier to buy. Hissmir Fish-Eye Rye doesn't drop from fishing. It comes from the New Life festival.
