Besides avoiding the places not curated until the hot fix.....edit: it's fixed.

One tip is to farm the areas that have the least variety in fishing hole types available. This is because the more fish in your loot pool the harder it is to get the specific fish you want. For example, if all of the trophy fish are in foul water than all 12 fish are in your loot pool. So, even if all of the trophy fish had an equal chance of being pulled, you'd have 1/12 odds. Meanwhile if they are split up 3 each in the four different fishing types (river, lake, salt, foul) then they the odds become 1/3 of getting the fish you want (assuming equal odds).

Recommend places to start fishing

Clockwork City (all oily, which works the same as foul)
Coldharbour (all foul)
Northern Elsweyr (all river)
Deadlands (all foul)
Imperial City (all foul)

Technically Artaeum is also all Mystic (salt water) but it's only got three fish so I didn't include it in this list.

Let me know if I missed a place.

Yes. The trophy fish are curated so you get the achievements much, much faster.

My goal is to hopefully get the master fishing achievement so I can get access to the achievement boat. But I hate fishing in every game I’ve ever done it in with a passion. A few days ago, I decided to try and just get the first trophy fish in every zone for every different type of fish since getting the first one is no different before or during the event. Just after a couple of zones, I kept wanting to fall asleep while waiting to press the E and I know I missed several presses and finally gave up. I don’t know if I’m going to do any better during the event.

I'm on console so my controller vibrates when it's ready. I just do other stuff and hit x when it vibrates.

That would certainly help keep me awake!

Well, last night I got 3 zone Angler achievements. My fishing character got Sharp for his encouraging comments and they donned their fishing attire, loaded up the proper champion points, and filled up on Artaeum food, and checked my stock of bait I've collected over the years in anticipation of this moment - 3.8k worms, 1.7k insect parts, 2.6k guts, and 5k crawlers (I hope that's going to be enough!). And I turned on the little pictures of fish on my map and mini map using Map Pins (I think that’s the addon).

    wpekbl44c1t6.jpeg

    ajedvx2tgn0o.jpeg

Much to my surprise, I noticed that the addon boasts the added feature of once you get all of a certain type of fish in that zone, all the little pictures of that particular fish on the map go away! I found that to be very helpful to help me know which type of fish I had completed.

Oh, and don’t make the same mistake I did, be sure to have plenty of space in your bags! At least a couple of times I tried to lose a rare fish only to discover my bag of fish was full. Sometimes if I cleared out space fast enough and fished immediately again, I would get the fish on the next try. But one time other players were around and the fishing spot disappeared before I could get back to it. I don’t know if leaving a rare fish in a spot guarantees that the very next fishing attempt will always get it whether it’s you or someone else, or whether it just disappears.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying.

The trophy fish should have already been curated so you could only catch one of each trophy fish, and they should be curated going forward for all times, not just during the event.

I have to say I feel sorry for Sharp during our fishing expeditions, he loves fishing so much but just has to stand there and watch me fish. It's akin to someone who would rather play the game only getting to watch someone stream it. I wish he had his own fishing animation that kicks in whenever we fish with him in attendance.

There's no excitement as it is now, imo. All you do is stand there and hit E every few seconds. It's about as exciting as breathing haha. And with as big as the game is now in terms of places to fish and achievements tied to fishing, it's only gotten more tedious than it was years ago.

And keep in mind you'd still be wading through droves of white Fish between Trophy Fish. It's not as though every Fish would be green or blue.

I haven't touched fishing in years because of how boring and time-consuming it is. I'm willing to bet it's like that for a lot of people. Curating Fish would make the whole thing LESS tedious and likely encourage more people to engage in a game system they would otherwise just keep ignoring.

Besides, we have curated Gear drops, so personally I don't see why we couldn't have curated Fish too. It's the same concept for both; it helps cut down on the tedium.

Oh my god I didn’t even think about the Imperial City lol. That’s going to be an experience…

My favourite ever experience in Imperial City was fishing. I was wandering around in stealth & noticed a fishing line in a hole, but I couldn't see anyone because it was an enemy player fishing while in stealth. From the opposite side of the fishing hole I cast my own line, and we just fished together in stealth, only seeing each other briefly when we cast a new line. When the hole was used up we both popped out of stealth, waved, stealthed up again and left. It was just fun fishing with the enemy.

A gamepad on PC will too, as long as you're not using a PlayStation controller with the new(ish) native game support. People with PS controllers can use third-party solutions for fuller support, including vibration, Bluetooth, and the ability to use all buttons (the native support disables some).

Oh my god I didn’t even think about the Imperial City lol. That’s going to be an experience…

Got the IC fishing achievement tonight. Started with 0 rare fish. Took about 25 minutes to complete. Without curation, it would have been a real pain.

My main is AD. Thank you to the two DC players who were running by, slowed down when they spotted me, saw I was fishing, and carried on their way. Good folks.

And thanks to ZOS for making this one easy. It was the only fishing achievement I had left and I wasn't looking forward to doing it! :)

I'm also having fun digging up treasure maps.

This is the type of event I like, where RNG is relaxed for a while. It makes the game fun, rather than a slog. I hope to see more of this with other events (maybe increased RNG for leads in dungeons during the Undaunted event, etc. Stuff that's on theme for whatever event is going on and will encourage players to participate more, rather than just grabbing their event tickets and that's it).

I did this a few months ago. At one point, I was at a fishing spot that was right under the enemy flag. I was only missing one of the fish there, so it only too about half a dozen fishing holes. I did get killed a couple of times when I was discovered, but the fishing holes are in the ditch in the inner ring, so you can sometimes use the wall to shield you. And always stealth, of course!

    Coldharbour (all foul)

Thanks. I got Cyro and Cold harbour this morning.
I echo the sentiment that this type of events are the best: better RNG, not worse - are you seeing how many players there are everywhere? It's awesome!

My question is: do you think this event, or at least a fishing one, will ever come back?
I am prioritizing Master Angler and I don't know if I'll be able to do all the others, like IC. Would be happy to know there will be other occasions...

So I finished the Imperial City angler pretty quickly, within an hour. I played as a AD character. I ran into 3 EP players, all of which were super chill, emoted with me, or fished with me. I also ran into 7 DC characters, all of which killed me instantly. One guy killed me twice and another felt the need to nightblade sneak behind me.

Just a little sample of some EP, DC experience lol

I don't know. I hope it comes back but this event is taking the place of event types that changes up often. So, I suppose it's possible that it will not be regular. I have not personally read what their plans are. But, they did note this was a special event and part of the 10 year celebration so I would personally not count on it returning. If I were you, I'd least knock out IC before the master angler zones. IC is the hardest zone for fishing due to having a single loot pool and all the fishing spots being in PvP hot spots. To each their own, but that's just my personal recommendation.

There are people who don't have the food and iirc it's pretty expensive to buy but I haven't checked prices. Not everyone has access to Companions, either.

Fishing as it normally is is a slog. Especially in places where all the Fish come from one type of Hole. Outside of a curated event you're as likely to get one specific Blue Fish 50 times as you are to get any other Blue Fish once. There's no reason not to leave them curated permanently to make it more engaging. Making things a little easier isn't always a bad thing, especially not if it means people will start using a system they previously ignored. It would HELP ZOS, because as an MMO they WANT people spending more time in the game, not less.

More engagement in stuff people previously weren't doing = more stuff to keep them playing. It's a win-win for ZOS and players both just to leave Fish curated.

If they made it permanent, I imagine that engagement for a couple months and then permanently crater. I'd also expect the price of roe to change and never recover.

Is there any particular reason you think people wouldn't keep doing it? There are always new people coming and there are entire guilds dedicated to fishing. Plus there are Leads that drop from fishing as well. Roe prices might go down, sure, but ZOS has also made other changes that have caused certain mat prices to decrease too.

Also why would the price of Roe go down? If you feel like people would stop fishing or fish less because of curated drops, wouldn't that mean Roe prices would increase as fewer people would be getting them to sell?

ETA my ADHD brain decided to replace "prices would change" with "prices would go down" seconds after I read your reply. Gotta love it -__-.
