I have been looking forward to this chapter for awhile because I actually have a lot of Breton heritage irl. I just hope they now continue to keep the same standard of content in the rest of the year long story. King Emeric has almost convinced me to change to Daggerfall Covenant and serve him instead of Queen Ayrenn and the Aldmeri Dominion.
I have already completed more than half of the main quest and I want to say what I don’t like. I am confused by the general tone of the narrative, which has become somehow naive, or I would even say comical. And I'm very bored. Yes, this is not the invasion of another Daedric prince. But it is still in some sense the salvation of the world.
For the rest, I like everything so far. The area and the architecture are beautiful. The card game amuses me sometimes. I really liked the new trial, mythics and sets.
Although I am not inclined to be so skeptical about the game that I would refuse to buy new chapters, I still feel tired of the same type of content and the casualness of overland.
I've become happier with High Isle as I've continued to play it. I just finished the main story and give it a thumbs up. I like seeing familiar faces. I always enjoy it when the alliance leaders are involved.
Having new companions is great. I've enjoyed the quests so far (the ones that count toward the map count and side quests). I like Queen Ayrenn's new look.
Does anyone know who voices Emeric? I like the voice acting.
As usual, the art/locales are wonderful.
I don't like the lava vents. They take too long, but at least there are always other players doing them right now.
I can take or leave the card game. I'll get as many achievements as I can playing NPCs and then never touch it again (unless there's some special event that gives good loot and you can play NPCs to get it).
I miss having some type of collectible, like the tapestry pieces or fragments or whatever that other zones had.
Downside: the bugs! Definitely the buggiest release so far.
For starters should point out I bought two of the biggest Collectors Editions or whichever they're called for the missus and I, who are seasoned ESO players.
Also we're just starting out with High Isle, and found myself like a deer in headlights. I'm sure it'll probably get better, but the opening first impressions left me scratching my head.
After the quest-starter from the store, and how it just kind of drops you off (not in High Isle, where I thought old starters at least got you to the new areas), looked up what came next, to find out I needed to use a boat or shrine.
With all the trailers and marketing cinematics, thought I'd take a boat to hopefully perhaps see a cinematic opening to High Isle. Checked all around Auridon docks, and other town docks, couldn't find any boat out that way.
Finally went to a shrine, teleported to High Isle, load screen later, found the NPC from starter to click on to take quest.
No cinematic, fanfare, or anything really to pull us in and enhance immersion. Just feels like more busy quests in a new location.
We're sure it'll get better, or at least we hope so, but for first impression... it seriously kinda took the wind out of our sails (pun intended). :-/
