I didn't buy it. Not worth the money from what I saw on PTS. If you don't use companions and don't play card games, there is nothing but the same locales scattered through out the game. Rather be in Summerset, which is a lot prettier and just sparkles.

Yup so far I am happy with High Isle.

A fun new zone to explore, check.
Interesting and good main story, check.
Volcanic Vents and the new World Bosses are also fun.

I've tried out the card game, yes it's complicated and takes a little while to learn. But so far I'm enjoying it.

I'm not going to pursue the new mythic items, at least not yet. So I haven't had to endure some lead bugs or things not working etc.

I'm not interested in a Card game and IF i would want a card game, i would buy a card game. No thanks as a mini game in a mmo.
If it just would be an ADDITIONAL feature, i would not care, but as only "new" feature, well yeah my choice is made: i pass on this thingy and wait for next year.

So far, it's fine. It's a nice zone. Nothing epic happening, just some areas to clear, and a new sidekick kitty I like very much. Maybe halfway done with the main quest and done a lot of side quests.

I have zero interest in the card game, and probably won't be doing it at all.

What it's not, is another Wrothgar, Vvardenfell, Summerset, or even Elsweyr. Back in the day we got nice leather artbooks, and statues, and much more complex zones. This… is merely what we got the last few chapters, and thinner even than that.

I voted "Does not meet my expectations.
The content seems light, I was hoping for more content to explore.
The card game isn't great. I've played a number of card games in person and on line and this seems lacking in areas of speed of play, balance and ease of play.
A very annoying bug with quest rewards. Five times in the last two days my quest reward has been a level 50 item with no CP value. Other quests were fine and had the CP 160 value they should have.
The best parts have been some of the dialog. Sorry, I did have a chuckle over the "large diplomat" (diplomat at large) and hearing "I will commit diplomacy..." was pretty funny to listen to.
The two companions and their quest changes were ok. It would be nice if the sorceress would attack the same target I do instead of drawing another's agro and getting herself in trouble.

I have 2 accounts (xbox), bought Blackwood on both.

For Highisle, I preordered it on one only (the one without eso+), so I can have a look and play the quests.

For my main, eso+ account I guess I will skip based on feedback and videos I have seen so far.

Nothing overwhelming, and most important: nothing repeatable that would give me a long term challenge like rare furnishing crafting materials (from feedback I read that daily worldboss quests are worse than in any other chapter, respawning just every 40 minutes or so).

I really hoped they would learn from previous mistakes (Blackwood dailies are dead on EU due to the high difficulty of the bosses), but now we have even more discouraging issues.

It is more or less meeting my expectations. I am not into card games and the main quest, which I have completed, didn't really grab my attention. The new companions also have not really engaged me, but it is early days and I am still carting Ember around with me, hoping she will grow on me.

The map looks pretty large and I notice there seems to be a lot of side quests, and historically I have enjoyed them more than the main quest lines, so I am pretty optimistic about that. The jungle zone looks really beautiful and I am enjoying some of the new creatures.

For now I will give it a thumbs up.

It isn't worth the 40€ ZOS is asking for it. Thus a no buy for me.

Mythics are behind horrible grind garbage, as are cosmetics and everything else interesting.

I don't care about companions (haven't even bothered to start with the ones from Blackwood.) Have no need for them, and based on what I've heard about the mechanics involved, gearing and leveling them up is yet another soulless grind I have no interest in participating.

The card game is total waste of resources as far as I'm concerned and am pretty sure I'll never try it, even if I should end up buying the expansion on sale.

The only reason to get it would be to explore the new zone and play though the quests. But that's worth like 15€ at most.

Based on that, I was pretty much set to skip it altogether, what with impending release of Starfield looming on the horizon.

However, since that got pushed to next year... Who knows. Maybe if they slap a super sale price on it around the time the Q4 expansion ships, I might end up getting it for the story content.

Guess it depends on what sorta sale deal ZOS will offer. I mean, I got some space in my gaming schedule open for it now, but only if the price is right. And only if it goes on sale well before Starfield gets released.

'Cause even if Starfield does only half of what they say it does, and only half as well as they claim it will, then based on what I saw yesterday, it's still a solid 5000+ hour game. And given that my gaming time is limited, the prospects of having any time to play ESO at all are gonna dwindle real fast. Especially if ZOS keeps offering new canned iterations of the same trite formula with future expansions.

You know the drill - the standard amount of delves to clear, the standard number of Skyshards to "find", the collectible to grind in a public dungeon and the same number of world bosses to farm for motif and structural plans via dailies. ESO has become painfully stale and grindy. PVP is, and remains to be, a total mess, and everything else is mired behind real money macro payment garbage.

But the writing is still generally okay. So if they slap a 60% discount on it or something, I might pick it up around the end of the year and go through the quests.

I've often remarked that ESO has kinda become like those old Gold Box AD&D games of yore. It's just more of the same, but still entertaining enough for a play through, but definitely not something to get excited about.

The new trial seems pretty interesting, but I don't feel it's ok to spend $40 for that. I could buy a complete game for that price, maybe even more than 1.

New crafted sets are cool but luckily I don't need to buy High Isle to access them.

Rest of the content are not interesting.
    1. Mythic items,
Not gonna bother frustrating myself with RNG over mundane tasks. Not when most notable mythic items always get nerfed after sometime (examples: Thrassian Stranglers, Malacath ring, Ring of the pale order, Harpooner's Kilt). Definitely don't want to compete against other players for leads.

    2. Card game,
Generally not interested in playing tabletop games in a video game. I'd rather do that in real life with my buddies. I also think mixing my deck with that of opponent is rather silly.

    3. Overland and stories,
Main story seems very interesting with an incredibly badass looking antagonist but lack of any form of difficulty options turns me away. Current difficulty of quests is way too low for players like me and it affects my immersion negatively.

    4. New companions,
I've never used companions as I don't need them or even like them. But not gonna lie, Isobel may change my mind for the first time.

I own High Isle and it meets my expectations
I am fairly happy with it, although I would not have minded a few more side quests than we got. The zone is beautiful and between High Isle itself, the city of Gonfalon Bay and Amenos offers some very distinct environments. A lot of the delves are also very pretty and we had fun watching the moving ships during our first guild run of the new trial last week. As someone who largely just wants to explore the world and the lore, this ticks all my boxes. The side quests have been fun, if a little less memorable than some of the previous releases. I enjoyed the main quest as well, including the fact that for once we are not facing some world-ending disaster.

Tribute so far has been fun to learn and play, but I am not sure if it will hold my interest once I have collected all the cards and achievements for it. That will likely depend on the variety of mixing and matching decks once you have all 8 of them unlocked, and if it will continue to feel fresh each game.

A few critiques though, as nothing is perfect: I dislike the way that motif releases are staggered these days, as it makes it less interesting to do dailies in the new zone. Right now we only have the drops on the world boss daily, which means doing the delve daily offers little in terms of rewards, especially knowing you'll eventually have to run them again once the motif is released. Same with the one for the trial and possibly the vent daily, if that will get one as well. And while I am not as fussed with the hunt for the mythics on day 1 as some, it does appear there is some frustration over lessons not learned from previous launches. That is a shame.

When you consider you can buy a new AAA game for the price of this small, unfinished and underwhelming expansion, then that puts it into clear perspective.

ESO has become weighted towards the casual gamer demographic but I very much doubt the majority of people giving High Isle a 'thumbs up' can objectively say this is full value for money.

Summerset was the benchmark in quality and value, but apart from maybe Vvardenfel, nothing else has come remotely close to that standard, all of which is quite telling as long running MMO content is inevetibly dialed down as the game approaches old age and investment and resource reduce.

In fact I'd go as far to say that I actually feel a bit cheated, so I wont be pre-purchasing anymore updates in future.

I primarily bought High Isle solely for the new Companions... so it fits my expectations perfectly. I still have not completed any of the recent DLCs since I tend to spend too much time creating new characters and going through Alliance and MSQ... but hopefully now with Isobel, whom I think is awesome btw, I'll be able to progress further through the game. ;)

While I do onw High Isle I can't give yet an opinion on whether it stands to its promises or not, hence I didn't participate in the poll.

All I can say is that the landscape and the mob density seem to be a bit underwhelming for now, but I haven't done any questing or dungeoning yet due to limited time constraints ATM. Especially the mob desity seems to be a bit low. Here one or two mobs, there two mobs and then large areas of more or less void. There are also not that many places I still remember after riding along the isle yesterday.

What exceeds your expectations? I don't see anything truly new. Sure, new areas, but those are like the areas we have.

Which expansion/dlc is 'truly new' in your eyes lol, I never recall previous eso dlcs turning it into a space fps shooter game.

The post said it "exceeded expectations" not that it was "more of the same". Hence I asked what "exceeded expectations".

Exceeds expectation does not equal to having things that are completely new or groundbreaking lol, you are mixing it up.

For me, whether I should get a Chapter for full price boils down to FOMO.

For example, Greymoor added Mythic items that changed how we make builds. There is a strong incentive for me to get it on the first day.

For High Isle, there's Tribute, an optional minigame. It has bad rewards. I have no reason to get it the first day.

    Everything else:
    • Zone will be dead in a week
    • Plot won't complete until November
    • Item sets/Mythics are going to be nerfed to Oblivion
    • More useless Companions

I own High Isle and does not meet my expectations
I can't say it meets my expectations because I haven't finished the zone yet and I've stumbled across a few things that bugged me. I hope not to finish for a while.

The first things that struck me was how empty it felt. That got a little better yesterday (Sunday), but I was surprised at how very empty Gonfalon (sp) felt the first few days. I wonder if they realized what creating a card game as an alternate state of play would do to the feeling of population? I think that's a big part of it, the mythic frustration was a big part of it, and I just don't think as many people bought this expansion, especially after the immense issues experiences with updates and patches, and patches to patches.

The second thing that struck me was how beautiful the zone was - the bit I've seen of the lower island around Gonfalon, anyhoo. Reminds me very much of the Gold Coast, only more vertical. Love the sunflowers. Love the water. Loved the details of the ships sailing by and the guy in the skiff singing as he paddled out and came back in again. Loved that.

The third thing that struck me was the recycling of assets (looking at you conch shell sconce and driftwood candelabra from Murkmire, among others). Much more than I'd seen in any other zone. Sure, the shells fit, but... maybe spend a little bit to make them unique to the zone?

The fourth thing that struck me were those damn fauns - crreeeeeepy and annoyingly blank. But interesting, and did I mention creepy? Also enjoying the stone druidic circles and cairns and stuff. :)

The last thing that really struck me was the lack of a texture on the chest piece of a male druid. I have NEVER seen a missing texture in this game before. I was a little gobsmacked. Also tripping over a second Balki corpse pretty close to the first one. I can explain away a quest giver muttering about something appearing quickly before and after a wayshrine while running through a zone, but a corpse getting up and planting himself elsewhere is a bit much. Maybe just one, guys?

I actually did the trial before I saw anything much of the zone and I really enjoyed it :D We played it blind so we had no idea what the mechanics were and were trying to puzzle them out. What fun!

I LOVED the dungeon Shipwrights Regret - fantastic with the three hidden bosses and the water effects on the final boss. LOVED IT. Guess that's technically from the DLC, but still counts for me. I'm also enjoying the vents and the mini vents :D The lava is a cool mechanic and feels much more perilous than water (and a dolmen) to be standing on.

Loved the cat you can pet and the dog you can dance with (short dance though, dang it) - I like that other people can see you doing this, so it's not just you standing staring blankly. Adds some life to the space.

Voice acting seems cool so far, but I do not like the bard in Gonfalon. Personal opinion of course, but something about his voice doesn't suit the songs he's singing (to me).

Overall enjoyable and beautiful, just a bit empty and 'recycled'.

It's a bit small especially when compared with Summerset or Vvardenfell. Area is nice though and I like the architecture.

The card game is OK but I don't like the fact that it completely locks you out of the game interface, no chat etc.

I have serious concerns about the next years chapter though if the size keep shrinking at this rate. I don't see how they are going to shovel a trial, 6 delves, 6 world bosses, 6 dolmens and a public dungeon into the area of an Trader Joe's (Aldi in the UK).

Far below expectations. Never mind not having even the slightest interest in card games, and if I did I would go buy one that makes sense and has comprehensible instructions, The entire zone is empty and boring.

High Isle should have come with picnic baskets and blankets, as apparently that is what is is, a huge park with the occasional mob being spotted well off in the distance. Oh yeah, the lava spouts on a tropical isle, that makes so much sense... the whole thing is yet another cut/paste job, phoned in from someone working in their spare time on vacation apparently.
