One thing though ZOS, it's time you began to gave estimated END times.

Yes, I know you open yourselves to being berated for not making them but it's really not acceptable to give no idea how long it'll be. You've enough experience now of downtimes to surely have some good idea how long they take, every other MMO manages to do this, even this early in their life.

No we complain that they not texted the game in beta ( or they push the game out too early to start gain) and that they take down server in HOLYDAY when peoples can play .

As long as they fix the game... Yes it's pain to have maintenace during holiday (xpecially for people who actually work during a normal week), but I'd say I can understand the need to clean up the game from as many bugs/issues as possible, but...

Are they at least going to try and fix the "loading screen" issues? Because looking at the patch notes doesn't look like it, and this is way worse than loosing couple of hours of gameplay.
  • ola.wilhelmssonb16_ESO
The fact that they are patching and doing maintenance today, probably means that the tech staff over at Zenimax has worked rather long hours, all through easter to fix things. I, for one, really appriciates that. I'm somewhat annoyed that they haven't given us an ETA for when the server will be back up. On the other hand, by now I have experienced enough maintenance breaks in this game, to make a decent "guesstimation" on my own. So I'm guessing this type of maintenance will take about 4 to 4,5 hours and that the server will be back online around 10 to 10:30 CEST (9 to 9:30 BST). How's that for an "Estimated Time of Arrival", Zenimax?
(ETRS, short for Estimated Time of Resumed Service, might be a more accurate, but utterly cryptic, abbreviation. So never mind. Just a small case of "restless-keyboard-fingers-syndrome", on my my part. )

No they don't. It is not an official holiday so not everyone gets it off.

Doing 'maintenance' during EU day time will not make customers happy anyway. Its not bad to make customers pay for your service but then at least try to take them serious.
  • RickDangerous42
As a SouthEastAsian player on the EU server, I agree with the previous comment. Europeans might be sleeping these hours, but we are not, and it's a public holiday. If it's indeed mainly the loading times I could have waited until tomorrow to get that fixed. Agree also with the previous comments that Eve Online does it properly with REGULAR scheduled maintenance, and with END times given.

If you want to keep it sporadic like this, and not announce end time of maintenance, will you PLEASE introduce an email subscription where we can get notices ahead of time, and another email when it ends. Otherwise it just becomes a bashing of the server status page to find out -> not helpful for the help portal...

EDIT: skip the email. Following the Twitter account seems to be the best way to get news about this.

Can we at least can expect some compensation for all this maintenance, since lot of people can't play at all but still pay their subscription?
An additionnal free day for example would be appreciated by the community I think...

OK thanks for the link man.
Please don't start the "Oh my god I won't be able to play during holidays" VS "These saints have been working hard during holidays!" fight.
If the game needs to be fixed, needs to be fixed, period.
If the game needs to be fixed, someone has to do it, yes even during holidays, but he will get paid way more than on a normal working day.

It was a bit annoying having the schedueled maintainence on friday as that was a public holiday here but I was comforting myself with the fact that the next planned downtime would take place on tuesday when I would be back at work. Unfortunatly they decided to move it to today so another couple hours of waiting for a non-disclosed time when they expect to get the server up again.

I don't mind them fixing bugs even if I personally have not experienced them. What I would like to know is rough ETAs on when the downtime should be over so I can use my day better.

BTW many countries DO have public holidays today even if YOUR country does not ;) For those that care this is a link to a wikipedia map showing where Easter Monday is a public holiday...

  • dennisb16_ESO73
It seems their consideration for the EU player base is virtually non existent, so I'm not surprised that they simply don't care about any public holidays in EU either.

Depends on your country, in much of Europe it is an official holiday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Monday)

This forum totally cracks me up. There are a million posts that say something along the lines of "TAKE THE SERVER DOWN NOW AND FIX THE PROBLEMS" or "The Infinite Loading Screen Bug Needs to BE fixed NOW" and then they announce that they are doing maintenance a day early and list quite a number of fixes in the patch notes, including the said loading screen bug, and everyone starts freaking out that the servers coming down a day early.
    Absolutely hilarious.

It seems to be fixing problems that people are complaining about. The fact that they are doing this when they are says that the devs have been working all weekend to address these issues. Show a little appreciation for that. You may have one day of your holiday messed up- they had the whole weekend messed up.

welcome to the world of releasing bugged games...do you really think i care ?
i pay for a service and its zenimax responsibility to deliver that service...how they achieve that is their problem, not mine.

oh, and about the loadscreen bug, THEY introduced that in the last patch, it wasnt present before that...so what they are doing is fixing something that should have never made it to a live environment in the first place. poor QA.

so go ahead and shove your apologetic posts where the sun doesnt shine cause, funny enough, they never seem to do this during US primetime hours...

also...the loadscreen issue DOES NOT appear in the patchnotes:

To everyone complaining about "too much maintenance", lemme tell you a little story about an online game that's lucky to get a single restart on the first Monday of the month.

Bugs and errors tend to build up in a single week, let alone over the course of a Month! That game is supported only by donations, so think for a moment how much those players have to put up with every month until the next restart, and continue to donate to support the game despite all of that.

ESO is a pay-to-play game, and that money goes into maintenance and repairs and bugfixes that make a single month maintenance plan completely unworkable. If you think all these down times are "Too Much", then think again. We could be getting FEWER restarts and even MORE problems could appear just by letting it go for so long.

Be grateful that we are getting as many maintenance days as we have been.

Hmm, interesting. We're to be grateful the game was released in a state which requires them to have it down all the time?
  • MatthewCKemp
Wonder how many people complaining about "down time," have also complained about bugs in game?

Yes its inconvenient to most, but consider this "at least they are trying to fix these bugs for you."
  • Mikeriddle1b16_ESO
Emergency maintenance I understand needs to take place whenever needed. Pulling scheduled maintenance, on the EU server for a MMO, a day forward so it is on a (virtually) EU wide public holiday seems like an incredibly poor decision - especially just after launch, a recent large emergency unscheduled patch and with no advance announcement to customers. The exact opposite may be true, but from a personal customer experience this type of decision and no advance communication makes it feels like EU customer's are just an after thought.

Can we please have an estimated ETA in the server status forum; e.g. down for 2 hours or off-line for most of the day so go out and enjoy your Easter elsewhere?

Well, personally i'm going to use the couple of free hours i now have to do a bit of exercise, something i've rather neglected since ESO's arrival.

Maybe others would like to do the same or similar?

Eat breakfast with your family for once? Remember to spend some time with the dog/cat/baby/significant other for a couple of hours?

Chillax ladies and gentleman. The game's still in it's infancy. They'll get a grip on it... Or we'll all go back to WoW in a few months and either way we'll all soon forget about these teething problems :)
  • radoslaw85eb17_ESO

When not to patch : Fridays,Saturdays,Sundays and public holidays. Basically all periods that customers are supposed/expected to have access to a service and company resources might have limited availability.

When not to do maintenance : Prime times , includes public holidays obviously.

If anyone can tell me the company he is working for doesn't follow these rules , i would instantly apply for that company cause our maintenance window is from 01:00-06:00. Everything outside those ours are no touch.

As the game didn't crash, i don't see why it should be taken down now for maintenance.

Are there bugs , hell yeah , although the ones i encountered were solved by re-logging. Do they need to be fixed , hell yeah , but taking down servers for every single fix is cutting into a lot of peoples play time, and then deciding to move a previously agreed and announcement maintenance time to a public holiday is just poor professionalism.

BUT clearly complaining etc doesn't make a difference, they just do whatever they want.

After reading some more it may be a justified downtime, if people can't even load their characters and they sorted it it's proper.

Everyone cries and moans like *** about bugs... they take the servers down at a reasonable time to fix them, not "prime time" like I keep seeing people say (Since when has 5AM monday morning been a prime time?) and people still moan and cry like ***, those moaning need to get a grip its a game not a way of life...
