At this time, we are doing the scheduled maintenance one day early, and tomorrow's maintenance is taking the place of the regular maintenance on Tuesday.

So how hard was it keep a straight face when you told this lie?

This was addressed in another post, where they explained that there is a hotfix that was not ready to be applied during the maintenance yesterday. As much as I'd rather be playing, I am glad to see that they are working on the issues. Yesterday fixed a ton of broken quests and lag problems for some people.

So what you are saying is when the Dev posted yesterday that the Monday maintenance would REPLACE the regular Tuesday maintenance they were intentionally lying to the customers?

Based on the Dev response in the other post regarding this they knew full well they would be doing another maintenance on Tuesday but chose to lie to the customers. Not exactly the way to inspire customer loyalty or trust.

@ghost151 We don't live in a perfect world. Businesses have to adapt or face greater issues that could have been headed off if only they had reacted quicker.
Schedules and timescales change in accordance with circumstances all the time.

So no, they probably weren't lying when they said one thing and ended up doing another. That's life. You adapt, or face the consequences for your lack of action.

Remember that today's (Tues morning) downtime included a HOTFIX. That's the operative word here....

Let's be truthful, if YOU were having a problem that a new hotfix was going to address, would you prefer that it be rolled out asap? Or would you prefer to wait approximately 1 week for the next scheduled maintenance period, purely because someone is screaming on the forums that the devs were lying about when the next patch would be? I'm betting you'd want the former, rather than the latter.

Hotfixes are emergency patches that are considered important enough to be implemented outside of the "scheduled maintenance" period. It's been going on for years in the MMO industry.

I am beginning to wonder just how many who are complaining about downtime have actually played an MMO before during the initial launch period...

The fact is that we don't live in a perfect world and some bugs / issues / exploits don't manifest themselves until after launch. Why? There could be lots of reasons (e.g. from exploiters keeping details of the exploits to themselves, to devs just not getting around to dealing with bugs reported during beta). It sucks yes. But, that's just how it is. All MMO's end up having multiple hotfixes / patches within the first few weeks. Rift had them. SWTOR had them. Hell, the almighty WoW's servers were up and down like a brides nightie for the first month.

And every time during the launch periods for those games, some people complained about how the servers were being taken down to apply "yet another" hot-fix thus a player feels aggrieved and remarks how "the first 30 days aren't actually 30 days, because the server is down so much."

Yes, downtime sucks, I agree. But I'm sure Zenimax (like any other MMO dev company) don't want to have to take the servers down for maintenance. However, as we've seen, it IS necessary. And sometimes, just sometimes, it IS even necessary to do it outside of the scheduled maintenance period. ESPECIALLY in the first 30 days.

This is how it is people.....this is a typical MMO launch. It certainly isn't surprising to those of us who have been through this many, many times.

Chances are, once things settle a bit and the "emergency" stuff has gotten out of the way, you'll be clambering for the next weeks patch to fix that bugged quest that is annoying you (Asmalah, I'm looking at you). Then you'll be saying "This needs fixing now! Not next week!" Heck, some are even saying that now (I'm looking at you Vigrod Wraithwhateveryournameis)

Yeah, always understand these and that,
    its necessary, blablabla...

Fact is, for a hotfix they need 2 hours, for a little mini-patch 4 hours,
and ..every mmo has this problems, [snip], until 2060 i read that stuff,
if i would work with my IT in the office like they did i would be fired last week...

    but...wait....SWTOR....hmhhh...okay...
in three months TESO is also free-to-play

I think the main concern here Isn't that anybody is upset that there is maintenance but rather the complete lack of a heads up about it and the over shooting on the listed finish times. Its annoying that they cant send out a message with a basic calendar pdf of the scheduled maintenance times. I can understand it needs to be done and i don't think anyone is really upset that there game is being fixed rather that it more feels like you only ever get 15 minutes notice.

except they have given a heads up on it and people just don't pay attention. If people aren't going to look in the proper location for the information, then they have no right to *** about it.

I´m far from a Zeni-apologist but these maintenances are early morning hours!

Starting at 5AM PST to 8EST.

Is there really a need to complain about that?

    SERIOUSLY!?!
