If the number of players in Cyrodiil, or any mode of PvP, has increased, then it's safe to say that it hasn't done the opposite. When the event started the queue was well into hours long. I suspect it's because ZOS didn't foresee the numbers. Severs were added shortly afterward. It hardly seems a bust.
Some people don't like PvP. I think everyone understands that. Some don't like RP, dungeons, trials, etc. That is however not a sufficient reason to take away an event, especially since PvP only has 2 per year, on a good year.
If it bothers you that much, simply abstain from it.
