Explanation on current performance

trentstarbuck954
I would like someone to seriously explain to me how this games current performance, mainly cyrodil, is the worst its ever been. I've been playing on PC since launch and switched to PS4 to play with real life friends and on and off since then. The games state is currently hands down the absolute worst ever. This in my opinion is unacceptable in a game that has been out since 2014 and is coming out with a new chapter in a few months. I would like to know how a game that had somewhat decent performance in the past, certainly not perfect, went from that to this utter embarrassing lag-fest of a game. Skills dont work, cant bar swap, can't attack LA or HA, the lag is totally game breaking. Plus that BS re-installation of the game that really didnt work at all, seriously how is this acceptable content for a company?

I wont pretend to be a developer, but I'll answer the last question-

It's because people keep subscribing, keep making crown store purchases, keep buying DLC. That is the only reason this performance has been deemed acceptable.

What's to explain. People pay $200 for a slim chance at cosmetic horses, why would the devs bother with performance.
Cancelled sub and no chapter purchases is your only option until they fix the game or a new mmorpg pops out and you wont have to bother then.
My bet is that as soon as a new mmorpg appears, Cyrodiil will become a lot smaller and there will be 10 more campaigns.

    It really makes you think.

What would it take for you, and us, to stop playing altogether. I mean, it’s unplayable...what are we doing?

We don't know how many more people joined the game since lockdown. I expect that the servers were hit by influx of new players pretty hard.

Yeah some of the issues like very long loading screens (being zoned into a region) are certainly related to the increased number of people concurrently playing - but major problems exist since years and my guess is that ZOS has not much of a clue how to fix it and not the resources to do it as well - eventually that is not even their fault, but is a decision by Zenimax to not provide the required resources and just stick with crown store and new chapter sales as their main focus.

Switching to SSD from HDD (maybe even this + update 25) solved long loadings for me. Now I barely manage to do anything while waiting, when before I literally could minimise the game and do something for quite some time when it was loading.

This is a perpetual topic. They have been working on performance for six years. They even stepped up their efforts over the past year. Sure, there are more players on some of the megaservers recently but that just made things worse, it didn't create the problem. You'd honestly have to chat with the people who work on backend stuff about what has or hasn't been tried and what is or isn't possible. I've heard 101 players theories on possible causes, and a dozen or so seem like they might be plausible (while the others are so bad even a layperson is gonna facepalm, especially the conspiracy theories).

As much as Blizzard screwed things up with their combat system and storylines in WoW's Battle for Azeroth expansion, they still had decent performance and are trying to woo back players with tons of changes meant to show they are taking player feedback seriously. Square Enix continues to hit home runs with its fanbase for its Shadowbringers expansion and performance is fine with a solid internet connection and good machine. (Now there's Amazon dumping a pittance of its mindboggling into a PvP-centric MMO with the funds to buy whatever fixes it needs for as long as it takes so that will be an interesting comparison.) This isn't to suggest that ESO is going to take a nose-dive from the competition, but that other top MMOs who see active concurrent player numbers rise or fall don't have such severe performance problems. It seems pretty steady.

So what is different in ESO? Graphics requirements? Special effects/particle tracking? The numerous gear bonuses, skill line passives, and active combat abilities that all have to be tracked and work together in hundreds of unique combinations all at once? Or maybe one of a ton of other things about how the game works that just exceeds what the game code and server capacity can handle? Who knows? But nothing else I've played recently comes close to the performance problems in ESO in general and Cyrodiil in particular.

That's not a bash on the game or on the devs. I'm an ESO fan and player. But performance really keeps some people away. It's practically a meme at this point for the game, which is sad. I hope that ZOS' additional plans for making the game run well for all game modes and for as many players as possible bear fruit. It's tiring to see performance threads over and over, and moreso to encounter the issue firsthand, but I get why these threads keep popping up. They are so numerous and frequent they could get their own forum.

As far as i'm concerned this game is back in beta. At this point I couldn't give a toss about new content or *** skill changes. I have no intention of buying greymoor because to pay for new content on a base engine that's more broken than ever would stupid.

Zos you should be crapping yourselves about new world launch even if delayed. A new game coming out of beta vs a 6 year old game that has returned to beta. What do you think is going to happen?

Your performance review needs a plan b because plan a is total crap. Yes you delivered the small fps improvement promised but introduced a whole load of new bugs.

THE CURE IS WORSE THAN THE DISEASE!

Don't worry though. when we all leave your server load problem will be solved. I've got a suggestion for you though. Please stop calling the server a megaserver

    EXACTLY

ZoS will not fix any issues so long as they are generating profit.

I cancelled my sub, when it runs out I'm not subbing again

I am not buying any chapters until the bugs are fixed, and I don't believe ZoS will fix the problems, honestly, I just don't see it happening.

Sadly, this will mean that I will eventually discontinue playing ESO because ZoS has not, nor ever, fixed the major issues and problems in 6 years.

Logged in tonight, had a long load screen travelling to an Outpost. A small group of reds were attacking it by the time I got loaded in, all my stamina disappeared and they killed me. Respawned at a Keep with my group, set off to attack the next Keep and froze as we approached it. Turned eso off and went to play a proper game.

We don't know how many more people joined the game since lockdown. I expect that the servers were hit by influx of new players pretty hard.

The problems are the same problems before lockdown as they are after, they are just more frequent and acute now.

That is a clear sign that there are not enough server resources. That means that ZoS needs to spend more money on server resources, or in a different term they need to buy more server!

It also means that the bugs, and the other issues related to code have only become more obvious in how often they happen and when. Optimization will not fix these issues, only spending the money on the labor required to find these issues in the code will fix the problem, it hasn't been done in 6 years so I don't expect ZoS to start doing it now.

So long as people insist on blaming things that are not the problem, ZoS will continue to allow you to defend them and what they are doing. It's only when all of us, the entire community, get together and speak with the only voice we have, which is not spending any money on the game, that ZoS will ever even think about fixing the problems they have got to know exist but refuse to fix because it means expenditure of money which affects their profit statement.

ZoS, you can see what is happening, people are fed up and pissed off about your horrible performance in resolving and fixing issues that have existed since day one. You need to get your act together and do what should have been done long ago. Get your server resources in order, spend the money on whatever infrastructure is required to fix the problems related to that issue, and spend whatever money is required to hire the right talent to identify and fix issues and bugs with the software that have existed for 6 years now.

Do your job, we stay and patron ESO by subbing and buying things from the crown store. Don't do your job, we all eventually leave because we don't want to pay money for entertainment that pisses us off and frustrates us, we want to enjoy every entertainment dollar we spend, not be mad about it.

A rollback has to realistically be on the cards, what I seen in Cyro today was just straight up embarrassing for what is supposed to be one of the biggest MMO's in the world.

Or they need asian/pacific/au/russian/multiple eu/multiple american servers and the ability to switch around. This is 2020, what is this joke of a service everyone is spending so much money on. People need to get a grip. This is all possible with the amount of cashflow this game sees. And it wouldn't even be difficult. And even ZOS know they would make it back so quickly if they had a game that could actually deliver what people expect.

It's overland, in dungeons, trials, at merchants, the issues that have existed have been around for 6+ years.

Wait until you start actually doing the content everyone else is doing. It's not just PvP, it's everything...

91 days. Input delay has been here for 91 days on console, and a little less on PC. In a recent website article they said they're still working on input delay so there's not any hope with the new update. But hey, they're killing it :D

    It's definitely not just cyro.
I'm crashing at crafting tables and getting bugs going into dialog windows and the inventory where everything freezes.

I can't solo a dungeon without getting the skill freeze bug.
My main guild, the reason I enjoy playing so much, is dying. Last trial we did on the weekend was us scraping through, fighting lag more than bosses. Most members have had to start playing other games.

If you're not getting these issues, lucky you. The game is becoming unplayable for others.
