Sucession dont gives you the sustain. BSW gives s increase of 15% on the chance of burning effect, and the combustion passive grants you ressources in return.
This is far more interesting in the most part of scenarios. Mother Sorrow or Succesion only give a little edge when you have the ideal raid composition to backup you.
After a lot of trial and error, i find BSw+PFG the most versatile combination for a DK in real ingame situations... Parses in the Raid dummy rarely can reflect that...
By the way, farming the Sucession fire staff can be the real pain in the arse, there are no way to skip all the maelstrom to open this final chest...

Is succession no longer a 'rotating' bonus?

The burning only gets reapplied on the cooldown of BSW itself, and that's 12 seconds. That amounts to only 40 magicka a second. You're better off with a charged staff.

Another thing i forgot to mention is even more important... The increase given by BSW fuffs ALL the spell damage. Sucession only buffs the ELEMENTAL damage. 40 magicka in single target. Tons of magicka when you burn more targets...

Nope.
There is also the Elemental Succession Flame staff which is a much harder farm then either Siroria or BSW.
