Error 209 after patch?

  • stealthdf2b14_ESO
Ive been getting this too since the patch yesterday. it seems if i close and open the launcher a few times it will go away. i did a repair and it ran and worked and i played the game. then the next time i went to play it came back again and then went away and then came back. it just seems to be random now.

Everyone, STOP with the random attempts at fixing it.

    This workaround WORKS here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/80209/found-the-root-cause-of-many-login-issues-with-workaround/p1

Don't delete files. Don't repair. Don't re-download. USE THE WORKAROUND ABOVE.

It is NOT a patcher issue, it's a routing issue. Deleting files and re-downloading will NOT fix it.

I'm not really a big pc progam guy, but I wonder if those of us who patched from beta are the only ones having problems or if its the clean install people as well. This is the 1st loggin issues I've had and since I'm a purebred techno-caveman I'm not sure about this stuff.

We shouldn't have to do this either, its their fault, and they should fix it.

No, clean installs are having the same issue

ABSOLUTELY. Keep posting, but DON'T do the other options. Use the real workaround and not the ones that don't work.

Keep posting until they fix it, but what I'm saying is don't waste time on things that don't work.

Yes, we all agree that they should fix it. Now that that's out of the way, just use the workaround and it will let you patch and play without any issues until they do fix it. There's no point sitting around complaining that they haven't fixed it yet, when there is a workaround you can use that takes literally 10 seconds and saves a lot of headache.

I agree, they need to get off their butts and fix the problem. We shouldn't need to jump through hoops like modifying the host file just because some engineer at Zeni or the Amazon server farm messed up. I've run MMO shards myself on Linux machines and you wouldn't see me asking my users to try and correct a problem if I was the one who caused the issue, that's for sure.

With my conversation with support over my issue with error 209. I gave them the link to the topic with the workaround that does work. They are aware of the issue and are working on it and the next time I emailed them when I got my launcher working after using a good IP that works. I gave them that info about the IPs on which ones work and don't work. That too was was passed on the server techs.

I re-downloaded the whole client again and that fixed the problem.

I feel your pain as I had to redownload twice as the first one got a corruption and would not allow me to even try and repair it. Second time it got the corruption again but it allowed me to repair and then I was able to apply this fix with the hosts file.

You got lucky and connected to one of the good IP addresses. The same thing happened to me: redownloaded the whole game and it worked, but the next time I tried starting the launcher, 209 error. Hosts file is the only way to fix it (at least until they fix it at the source).

Finally got a call back that i submited yesterday. Suposedly the work around is just closing and reopening the window and maybe restarting your computer. The guy said it has something to do with it mistakingly thinking the game need to repair when it doesn't depending on what node you connect to. Really crappy but thats the gist of it. If your still getting it dont bother uninstalling or anything like that it will do nothing if you hit the same conetion node when you try signing in

    Just go to:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/80209/found-the-root-cause-of-many-login-issues#latest

    It works

The OP has made it easy for you. Don't bother with ZOS as this is a player fix. They do not care about you and will not get this fixed for you.

*Please note that if you do delete all .version files, the launcher may require you to re-download the game.

    Edit: for clarification

Are you serious? You have any idea how long that would take me to download this on my connection? :( Surely, there has to be some error on your end maybe? And not ours?

    48-72 hours for me.

Currently at 7%, after roughly 8 hours.

Please let us know if after doing all of this (re-downloading the game), that it has fixed your issue and you no longer need to 'Repair' the launcher. Just curious. I rather leave this to the absolute last resort.

    Update for @Leia_Skywalker

My fresh download has finished and things are working well for the time being. I haven't received any error messages when opening the launcher. However, I'm not keen on testing my luck, so I won't be closing the launcher again anytime soon!

I completely deleted the above parent folds before reacquiring any game data. The launcher, client, documents... All wiped clean before starting my download.

The thing is, when the error occurred, it completely wiped out my client.

I didn't do anything to cause it. :p

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ and other posters:

When Repair did not work, deleting the .version files, as recommended by ZOS_JessicaFolsom, worked for me. After deleting the .version files, in an abundance of caution I emptied the Recycle Bin, then rebooted my PC.

After the reboot I started the Launcher using Run as Administrator. Instead of the Play button, I had to choose the Game Options icon in the center of the Launcher and select Install.

The Launcher then downloads a fresh Install of the client. Because I play on both the NA and EU Megaservers, I also changed OPTIONS to choose EU, return to the Launcher Main Menu, select Game Options > Install.

Both Installs take a long time to download, (even at 35 MB/ps broadband). However, after the manual re-Install, I now can play on either the NA or EU Megaservers.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.

    See you in Tamriel!
