Error 209 after patch?

Did all this and still have the same 209 error. Thanks Zenimax for breaking the game for me with you "New Patch".

There are many of posts regarding this... I have just bookmarked a few and keep up with the updates, forums, and restarting the launcher.

Actually if you follow all the information they've given it says to stop the download after deleting the .version files and then repair. You in fact do not have to redownload the entire game again.

However it still didn't fix the error for me like I thought it did.

Yeah I stopped the download and ran repair then it wants to download the whole game again.
I have tried every step giving it still wants me to download the whole game again...
my last step was I stopped the download and we launched it and now instead of 19gb left it is now only downloading 5 gb. I would just uninstall the whole game at this point but the uninstall option is not their anymore. just cancel repair no uninstall.

I am thinking the QA Dept dropped the ball on this last patch. and who ever made the repair tool I agree with a previous poster should be fired on the spot.
I really talked up this game to my Community and I do not even want to go on TeamSpeak to talk to them now cause man I can just already hear it... UGH

Actually, if you read what it says in small print on the left of the bar: "Checking Download." This doesn't mean it's downloading the 22GB, it means it is checking your current 22GB download that you already have. You speak of "jumping off bridges" which is akin to taking something at face value, which you're doing by not understanding what the Launcher is actually doing.

Unplug your internet when it says Downloading and see what happens...

1.) Close the launcher

2.) Wait for it to patch.

3.) It will start downloading some 900mb

4.) The error is gone and you can play now.

That's the only thing you need to do.

I'm not trolling, just telling you that you're misunderstanding what is going on. Watch it, you'll see it go from "Checking Download" to "Download" over and over until it is done. This is because it is checking your download and downloading the Patch, which is around 900MB. So, by you proclaiming otherwise and by me watching what I just told you is happening, along with your attitude, makes me think you're the one trolling here.

It appears they did not remove the 'Beta' switch from the shortcut.

Right click the shortcut and Properties. You should see a 'switch' at the end of the "Target: " string.

Removing this stopped the error. Even if it doesn't for you. Remove it anyway it's specifically for the ESO Beta and should no longer be passed to the Launcher.

EDIT: If you see the switch please post it. I failed to copy the string to the clipboard before applying the change

It was actually Downloading the whole game again for me. It was past that checking phase.

Reinstall from disks was successful, repaired after just to be sure, no issues, game launches fine, but I'm currently hitting login timeouts.

Another person who also stated the checking file thing and retracted that after they then stated to have to download the whole game again...

Got to be honest, got it fixed and played for a bit and stepped away for a bit so closed the game and left the launcher open, came back to this error, repeatedly tried the re-install and various other "fixes" (refuse to re-install for a launcher bug.) Finally just closed and reopen the launcher till play appeared and I could log in. Playing fine, I think at this point it's an issue with the launcher. not game files.

@Rage_Frost Here's your problem: while deleting the files you probably didn't close the launcher which messed everything up. Sadly, the best you can do is to do a clean uninstall, and then reinstall the whole game again. Even if you re-download the whole game now, without a clean uninstall you will probably get a bunch of errors.

before this happened I got an error that file was in use and cannot install, something to that effect, like the launcher was trying to patch itself and failed. the only thing running was the launcher

Deleting the .version files causes the client to download the entire 22 gigs again. Isn't there a better way to fix this?

I'm sorry. I know this isn't YOUR fault. But telling people to go in and start deleting files? This is not only ridiculous... it's insane. Many people are not all that computer savvy and they could *easily* end up deleting the wrong thing and screwing thing up even more . Not to mention the fact that this is not our job. This patch rollout was a train wreck. I think it's just wrong to ask your customers to go dinking around in their computer to fix it for you.

Besides, from what I hear the result of your solution for some people is having to reinstall the entire game.

You might want to reconsider your post.

Well I have giving up on this I just deleted the whole game from my system logged into the account page got the download file to install the game from scratch.

either way I am downriver without a paddle until I can download the whole game again.

What it really comes down to is no patch to a game should make the User delete file's, rename file's, move files or anything other then to open the launcher and update and then hit play...

only thing I can think of is I had the Beta Client and patched it up like they always stated had no problems with patching or playing the game until today's patch.

Someone dropped the ball I can tell you its not the folks sitting at home "playing the game" But the folks at home are the ones with the short end of the stick.

I had this, I managed to fix it by removing all eso application rules from my firewall and it patched and launched fine. This is the second time this has fixed a post-patch login issue for me.

It appears from the Game Consultant log that one of their servers is unreachable:

The Tracer route is over 30 hops.

Update: after a time of waiting..and not continuing to repair. I am able to log in again.
