Agreed. I had to reinstall 2 times and I'm still getting the errors. I can get the little temp fixes listed all over the forums to work for a short time, but in the end after 2 reinstalls the problem is still there.

Ok here is my Update if you have followed my reply's in this thread you know its been a long day.

I just got done installing a clean download of the Game from my account download link.
it was a 22GB download followed by 65mb, 65mb, 5gb, 35mb and 47mb patch of the game files...

The game is looking as it is working without error 209 problems.
Now on a side note before all of this I was using the "BETA ver of the game patched to the LIVE ver of the game." Not sure if that is what the problem is or not. But I wanted to throw it out their... If any Dev's or GM's are still looking into this..

When I launch the game it now states Ver 1.0.0.968197
Again I do not know if that is todays patch or what not but the game is working for me it at least now started to the log in screen and the game let me play.

I have tested this 4 times now with no more error's or any problem at all

I know this is not what a lot of you want to hear But I can say 100% unlike others who have stated these so called delete and replace files etc. This method does work

Did an official, clean uninstall and re-install. Immediately, I was prompted to repair. After repair, I received another Error 209 issue.

Uninstall and re-install does not work.

So I guess I just open and close until I get a "play" button? Honestly? $80.00 USD into a game and I have to toggle the damn game just to get to play?

I expect errors. I expect bugs, but the fact that support has been entirely unhelpful just makes me feel as if the company does not appreciate the money I put into this game that could have gone to other games or MMOs.

why is everyone complaining that they cant play the game?? just launch the game via eso.exe and wait for a fix or something lol. the game works just fine. if you guys want to play the game now and fix the launcher later, then just go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client , then launch eso.exe

that will bring you straight to the game and bypass the launcher. not sure why everyone is saying they cant play again....if you absolutely have to re-download the game then just play now and let it download overnight or when youre not playing or something...its only an issue with the launcher lol

Well I finally have the game! Left it downloading (for the second time) last night and it was ready to go when I got up this morning

Rolled my first toon but now I have to go to work

At least I have tomorrow off!

ok for those who cant log in i dunno if this as been posted here or not i dont frankly wanna spend 30 mins checking but to luanch game even with errors

go to where the game files are installed
open elder scrolls online
open game
open client
double click eso.exe ... no more launcher ..... frankly this is how i always open the game ...

only use the launcher for patches

My favourite part was how you went on to comment another 50 times, basically copy pasting your pity-party over and over. If you had just restored the 4 files from your recycle bin in the first place you wouldn't have even had to re-download. 1/10 find something better to do than complain on the forums next time.

Euh... really? You want us to download the entire game again to solve this?

Please, tell us if this is really your final solution: if i need to download 40GB everytime I play the game, I'm out of here.

And if this is not the final solution and you're working on a real solution, tell us too. This level of communication is unacceptable when dealing with game-breaking bugs like this.

I already re installed and got the same over and over again everytime I close and open the launcher.

Luckily I have the physical edition I am onto disc 2 atm, hopefully it fixes it.

For a person who has never posted before to post a flame is well funny?
I did what was advised by ZOS in this matter and you know what it didn't work... I also tried all the player submitted so called fixes guess what didnt work...

and umm thanks for saying I posted 50 times but your really off on that #... same of the copy and paste.

You have added no positive feedback to the problem of this thread then to bash me for trying to help my fellow gamers because I was in the same boat as them. And I took bad advise from a ZOS post where it said to delete those files "at that time it never said to put them back in fact it still doesn't say to put them back on any ZOS post... and to add insult the post was edited to add if you do this you have to re download the game some 5 hours latter.

Because bypassing the launcher and using the ESO.exe gives you a log in time out there corky. Normally I bypass the launcher since it likes to become an active window when I'm already in game and in a fight. I already re downloaded the game after removing the .version files. This *** doesn't work.

First the Consultant is just a DxDiag so that they can get your comp specs and some other info on the side that I don't willingly share ever. Second if you open and close the launcher repeatedly and keep hitting the repair option until it starts to repair (which will fail) you close the launcher right when it starts the repair and re-open it and it should just say 'Play'.

Jesus... after a few days of no reply about my missing bank slots and gold/items i get this error after the patch. Fanastic. Tried to set up a customer service call and never got a call back. Zenimax is just uber failing all around on the customer service thing. If i cant get a reply tomorow think im just canceling my 3 month sub that i set up a week ago

Assuming most of you with the problem have the beta launcher patched to live launcher like I did.... If so:
1- Close the launcher.

2-Browse to the Zenimax Online folder (Default would be C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online) .

3-Go into the launcher folder and run the uninstall program (DO NOT UNINSTALL FROM THE LAUNCHER) - This will remove the launcher files but not the game folder.

4-DL the Live launcher from the official ESO account site and run it.

5-When prompted to review the location for the install simply browse to change it to the old Zenimax Online folder.

6-Play the game

Have a nice day.

That little tidbit of information about deleting a 9KB file could cause the launcher to redownload the entire 22Gb would have been extremely helpful earlier

I was left to my own devices with this due to not getting a call back (yet), and I decided to open the settings (where you can change the servers via drop-down), didn't change anything, and hit the 'Apply' button. Either something fixed itself while I did this, or this actually worked... I did try the restarting the launcher many, many times. Had the same issues with Game Consultant (HOW DO YOU UPDATE THIS?!!!!!!!) Even restarted my machine multiple times. So very tired of this broken game business and terribly unhelpful notifications. Disappointing to say the least. Anyways guys, I'm sure the recommendations provided by Alex above will do the trick, but I didn't see them until after I got my game running.

What has worked for me is closed the launcher, waited 10 seconds, and relaunched it again. It allows me to press play after that. All else fails you can launch from the ESO.exe file to play the game like others have said. The launcher is only needed to patch your game, but it's not needed to get the game to play.

Wiped the game from my hard drive, re-downloaded and re-installed game from scratch. I still get the 209 error. I'm willing to bet this effects all US players, and many are just bypassing the launcher for now. I'd find it hard to believe it's something on my end, unless the issue is some hidden registry key that no one knows about.

Oh. This. Is. Gorgeous. Is there a new fashion for patches that BREAK things instead of actually, you know, REPAIRING them? Everything(well, except for a dozen stuck quests, regular falls through the world and other "insignificant" issues) was okay, then there was magic 8 hour(!) maintenance, then my launcher apparently didn't see the patch and I kept getting error 301. Gave up, went to sleep, in ~8 hours it magically saw the patch and updated itself. Played, quit, reopened, now I magically get error 209. You guys are kidding, right? I don't remember having such problems even in beta, what on Earth are you doing there, testing just how much...bad things players can deal with?
PS. Tried bypassing the launcher(which is NOT a solution anyway), but then I get login timeout. Great. Just great.

So I tried the deleting the versions process, moved them all to the recycle bin. Ran the launcher. Closed it. Put all the files back in except for the one that it wanted to overwrite. Opened the launcher again and I can press Play.

However, once you close the launcher again and open it, it once again has the 209 Manifest error. So, if you want to play again, you have to repeat the process all over again.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom, @ZOS_GinaBruno,@ZOS_KaiSchober, @ZOS_MichaelServotte, this is an issue that you guys are going to have to fix for us on your end.

I am sorry to say this, but I think that deleting files or reinstalling the game, or launcher, should be the absolute last thing people do to resolve this 209 particular error. It does not look like there was ever anything wrong with the launcher or game client.

This has all the appearances of a server problem, not a client problem, and for all intents and purposes the launcher is working fine for me now. I have closed and restarted the launcher in attempt to get it to fail. Unlike a few hours ago when I was restarting the launcher to get it to NOT fail, now I no longer get the random 209 error about version fail.

The launcher is still sitting at "Initialize", which is not unusual. I have seen it sit there for a long time before.

If you are still having problems, I feel for you.

Restarted computer, deleted/repasted .version files, , countlessly reopened launcher, tried the .exe file again...eventually this http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/80209/found-the-root-cause-of-many-login-issues#latest worked for me, tho I do feel kinda suspicious tweaking system files=P But so far nothing's gone up in flames.

It's outrageous players have to come up with solutions like THAT though(or with any solutions at all, really) after paying for the game though>_> In my eyes, right now they should all be running on ceiling there, screaming and working their asses off to fix the problems, instead we seem to be getting ignored like oh so many times before. Right, the game ppl paid 60-80$ for breaks after a patch? Ah, who cares, just reinstall all the 20+ Gb, maybe it'll help!
