What exactly does this mean? Certain buffs are bugged? Or just dialogue or something? I feel like context is important here lol

What does this bug do? Not change the passives and everyone things your the race you were before you changed it?
Or just they consider you to be that race you were before but yet get the changed races passives?
Not saying I would ever do this, but it would neat to create a Khajiit character race change it into bosmer and have the khajiit passives and khajiit recognition and this become as close to a Ohmes Khajiit as one can get! I have a Ohmes Khajiit roleplay wise, I had to make her using the bosmer race. But for all intents and purposes icly, she is a khajiit. So maybe this bug isn't as bad, as one thinks, unless its for meta reasons then really bad.

It what ways is this bugged? Please add more details about this bug. With what you've stated, I have to assume that you use a race change token and absolutely nothing happens, which I know to be false. I've used race changes before and they appear to be fine. If you could add more details on what ends up being bugged and what triggers it, that would be great, thanks.

The bug happened to me as well (oddly enough, also when changing from Khajiit to Dunmer). Basically just affects some quest dialogue and affects what armour you can craft (assuming you’re on an alt that has no motifs unlocked). It doesn’t affect gameplay, but it could ruin your immersion, if that matters to you.

Other day I have changed a gender of my character, and since then I have a Dunmeri lady whose hard breathing in sprint sounds definitely like a male character.
    And now this.
I think you guys understand now why ZOS refuses to give you class change tokens.
One of the two of us definitely has gone mad. It only remains to define whether this one is the whole world or just me.

I can spare you on that front right now. To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a single line of Imperial unique dialog in the game anywhere. Though, it's possible, Elsweyr may include some.

I mean, anything is more of a race then Bretons. (Aka cookie cutter humans with next to no uniqueness whatsoever)

I've changed only one character so far... Khajiit to altmer. Then I went to one NPC at Summerset who has few options in dialogue changing accordingly to some races, to see what he will say to me now - and he acknowledged my new race properly. I race changed that character in June 2018.

I plan to race change few more times... Knowing about such bug, now I will make sure to test every new character and see if the game properly acknowledges those changes :o

Speaking of that bug - is there a thread somewhere, maybe, that pinpoints which dialogues are race-specific, just so one could go around and test that those NPCs have reacted properly? That information, collected in one place, would help to properly test everything after race-change. I'm still on a fence, and khajiits aren't in good spot racial-wise yet, but now that they're remotely viable as magicka, I do ponder changing my unloved grumpy old dunmer magblade made under meta pressure to be a proper khajiit at long last... I'd rather not have anyone recognize my khajiit self to be a dark elf. ^^

That's actually a big deal to me, and some of my characters I don't even remember what their original race was.

Although, funnily enough, that would actually be useful in one single situation. Playing a Bosmer as an Ohmes Khajiit. Starting your character as a Khajiit and race-changing to Bosmer, NPC's still call you Khajiit because they realize you're Ohmes. Even more immersive with the Khajiit speak addon to change your own dialogue.

But any other case, no, that would be something I'd immediately hound ZOS's support for until it was fixed. I'll be sure to keep an eye out.

I don't know if this might help, but on the Bleak Rock Isle starter zone, right at the beginning of the quest line, you can ask Captain Rana about the races of the Pact. If you're a Dark Elf, Nord or Argonian she will acknowledge the fact when you ask about your own race.

Yeah but only at the start of the character. Anyone knows a npc that will always recognize you for a race check?

I found a way to quickly check what race the game technically considers you as.

If you have Eidetic Memory and have completed "Teldur's End" (the small quest chain in Silsaelin in Auridon, the one with the quest-locked skyshard), then you might have picked up a journal when in the manor (if not, you can go back and find it on an end table in the upstairs)

It's called "Gilded Letter" and can be found in Eidetic Memory under Criminal Correspondence.

In the letter the author will refer to you as a "Maddenly altruistic [race name]"

I did this quest recently on a Khajiit and just now an Altmer so the letter does change depending on your character race.

@RaddlemanNumber7 , thanks; that definitely helps, will include it into my checklist of NPCs in case I'll do the race-change. Every bit does help.

Another one I remember is that during "Of Knives and Long Shadows" quest (the prologue quest taken in Mages Guild HQ), in Stormhold, an argonian female guard says "greetings, cat-kin" to khajiits.

The sky shard is NOT quest locked. Another entrance exists at back via beach....

    Thank you for this.

At the 25th I'll change race and let you guys know if it worked properly.

Wait... you did in different characters or race changed? Because maybe the already generated text doesn't change if you name/race change

In any case I won't touch that note until I race change

Not saying I would ever do this, but it would neat to create a Khajiit character race change it into bosmer and have the khajiit passives and khajiit recognition and this become as close to a Ohmes Khajiit as one can get! I have a Ohmes Khajiit roleplay wise, I had to make her using the bosmer race. But for all intents and purposes icly, she is a khajiit. So maybe this bug isn't as bad, as one thinks, unless its for meta reasons then really bad.

@Aurielle Actually the armor thing is more or less intentional. Race changing does not automatically give your character the knowledge of that motif just as it doesn't erase the knowledge of its old racial. I think this was originally done before the outfit system was a thing so the Imperial crafting motif would not get devaluated.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Nah, it seems like a bug, for sure. When you speak to crafting certifiers on a race-changed character, they tell you to use crafting materials for your new race (i.e. they recognize that you have changed your race, though the crafting system itself does not). It has nothing to do with the outfit system.

I did a little testing on PTS. Started as an Argonian.

Went to Valano's Manor in Auridon, and entered by the step ladder from the beach. Read "A Gilded Letter" and it said I was an "altruistic Argonian".

Went to Alinor, and spoke to the Innkeeper of the Golden Griffon. I remember her being a complete bigot. As an Argonian she gives me the full-on nebarah treatment. Very insulting.

Logged out and changed race from Argonian to High Elf. Logged back in to the Golden Griffon.

The bigot Innkeeper now says I'm of the "proper progeny", and calls me "friend".

Returned to Valano's Manor and the Gilded Letter now says I'm an "altruistic High Elf"

So, no sign of any bug there.

There is dialogues in this game?

    jk

For real though I have never noticed anything that refers to what race you are in game(or just never payed attention) they just mostly refer to you as Vestige or whatever.

    hmm

the only thing i can actually remember was the orsinium quest to make the king and since I was orc I could possibly take it but I was also female so I couldn't.

Damn chauvinistic Orcs! Gotta love em.
