Anyone else feel like we got screwed?

  • katfiveknivesub17_ESO
I was expecting some down time but not this much, so I'm disappointed. I took time off from work ( which is VERY difficult to do) and I'm sitting here watching the forums. I expect this in beta, but not during paid time. However, as someone familiar with programming and the unexpected, impossible to predict headaches that go with the process, I can understand it.... does not mean I have to like it.

I'm looking forward to logging in again. I do love this game and I'm enjoying all aspects of it.

Hey folks, We want you to know that everyone who was part of Early Access will be granted an extended grace period until Sunday at 8AM EDT/12PM GMT before being required to transition your account to live. This will cover those who purchased ESO from an online retailer and won't be getting your box shipped in time and also gives anyone who purchased digitally more Early Access time.
Starting tonight, the game will be opened worldwide, so that there will be greater competition for limited resources. An ordinary game day doesn't compensate an Early Access day.

this really isnt far as people hit max level in less then 24 hours

Through exploits they reached max level... and for me that would be a horrible waste of $60. I like games with challenge and rushing to max level is, to me at least, a horrible thing to do to yourself. After all, what can you possibly have gained by doing that?

NOT with the extra $ 20.00 who cares about a pet.. who cares about imperial race we want full 5 days Pre access and we get not even close????

I agree I could care less about the bonus gear and horse and crap i wanted the 5 days its the entire reason for buying early so for people who say its a bonus stop fooling your self take that away and alot of people wouldnt have bought the game till after release

I know I would have waited if it were not for the early access. I jumped in to play with my brother and friends and only bought early to not get left behind.

I pre-ordered hoping to get into the 'beta-light' and it worked. I cannot help but wonder, just who is buying the game, without pre-ordering, on the first day of release? Is there really going to be this big influx of players on the 4th that are not already here?

I am not upset. Confused, maybe, but not upset.

Well as with all games money is easier to make at high level so one advantage of the top of my head is the ability to make money for your character your going to take your time with meaning having a good horse and equipment or maybe leveling your crafting up take your pick money is the lifeblood of these kinds of games

As long as they fix everything that was broken I don't mind having 24 hours down time. Thinking about the future, better having a good gaming experience later on that having a *** one during early access. My opinion...

Well it is the reason my fiancé and I bought the game early. I don't get why people allow companies to do this and make excuses for them. If you fail to pay they will shut you down, but if they fail to produced what they said they would, their customers (some) will give you excuses for them. This is what they love.

Not good for business or word of mouth. Many of my fiancé's work buddies were going to buy and play, now with the reported down time and the lies about early access (bonus or not)...they have decided not to and just play their other MMOs. This is just one case.

Their actions do matter and so does what they print/type on any advertisement. Defend them if you will, they are hoping you will. But don't be surprised if they keep up with shady dealings and end up F2P.

Now after saying that, I could really care a less. WoW is coming out with a new expansion, and I always have Tera where I do pay a sub if I play it. I do love ESO, but I won't deal with another shady company like EA. So it is up to them.

Strike one for them as far as I am concerned (and I am a heavy Cash Shop spender). It's not about how many days I got to play, but what they advertised and not receiving what they advertised.

It's all about there pitch (word) and how they stuck to it. Yes, I love ESO. It is one of the most beautiful games I ever owned. The freedom to do what I want. So this isn't knocking the game.

Mega servers have never worked on high populations.. (shard) just means way too much memory for the how much data can be processed.. your lag is not the connection.. its the overload of the processors...remember data still has to move from memory here to processor there to more memory to more processors before it get to you.. so cut the servers available power by 50%.. if not 60%...

I understand that you paid for the game and that early access is a bonus but its the reason we buy it before launch so don't try to push that one to me. I feel the least they could do is push launch back 1 day like other companies do to give us what we paid for or give us something in game to make up for it. I just feel like we were ripped off a bit.

I ran into a lot of these issues as well, as I'm sure a lot of early access gamers did. I have a big problem with a company that charges $120 for imperial edition selling that digital version as a package with early access being one of the selling points- and during this time there's a very extended downtime (there's one as I write this apparently preparing for public launch as well) and with a very unstable product. Especially one that also will be charging a monthly sub. The monthly sub should really give a stronger product quality guarantee.

I ran into a lot of combat issues (I had to spam some skills to get them to finally do something) which is annoying as a healer, about 4 or 5 quest lines a day I could not complete due to missing NPCs which meant not only that I couldn't progress that quest line, but I also miss out on those skill points. My main story quest was bugged out (got kicked then rolled back after completion and couldn't re-enter) therefore I can not continue the story until someone fixes it, some mechanics for quests would take several attempts to get going, guild chat consistently breaking, guilds broke twice, whispers died, the wayshrine travel died a couple of times.

THEN THE GOLD SPAMMERS OMFG! No options to re-size the chat window enough to find the spammer's name to ignore, I actually had to go to settings and make the chat so small i could barely read it just so that I could find the spammer's name to ignore, then make the chat size ideal again... at least a few times each hour.

A lot of people will say to me "stop bitching it's a new game there will be bugs" and I agree. But almost every bug was reported to Bethesda during beta consistently, those bugs were well and truely known - yet not addressed, they launched without repairs anyway, knowing full well that launch will likely bring it's own primordial stew of live issues.

Which leads us to the whole game comparison which is what everyone likes to do on a lot of mmo forums. Did other mmo launches go 100% smooth? Most of them, no. Does that mean it's tradition? No, but less surprising. That still doesn't change how Bethesda bravely announced the pay-wall / box price AND subscription price set-up stating that it ensures a higher quality game. Plus as stated in the last paragraph; this needs to be mostly contained and repaired during beta BEFORE launch, otherwise it's better for EVERYONE to just push the title back until it's ready.

There are 2 positives I take out of this and that is behind all the crap there is a very good game with a solid foundation of story exploration and combat, once the bugs are fixed of course. Coming from an Australian gamer, I did not get latency issues often as well which is quality so far, though official public launch hasn't happened yet so I'm not holding my breath.

My goal is to play until my first month is up. That's 30 days for Bethesda to either make an attempt to better their product (which I might add is currently one the most expensive MMOs out in a world of thousands of MMOs) or to some how own up and take some responsibility and make some allowances until their product is up to scratch and subscription quality. If this does not happen I refuse to pay my hard earned $$ to a company who is clearly not interested in keeping a considerable reputation in the gaming world. I'm sure a large portion of players are on the same page. I know Bethesda didn't work all these years on this title to be spat on, so they need to man up.

hmmmmm all the whinning again , downtime is for funcionality repairs , to work on known bugs and now for official release.
did not have much troubles with the downtimes cuz i'm working between my game times . its not fun indeed but its understandable , i rather have some downtimes at the start to solve problems instead of having a *** of problems in a few months and read all the *** like " U see they promised this and that and now u have a *** of problems . " JUST accept they need this time to make it better , prepare for release or any other things , wow has its downtimes to i could know it cuz i played it loooooooooooong enough to know.
sit back and relax u will have a lot of enjoyment to come in a few hours , and your friends ..... well they dont know what they will miss .
    Crazy ??? ...... Yes , I am B) and Whats you're excuse ??? >:)

I bet the servers will be down on the 4th as well for "maintenance". How unstable are these things? Make a fix, a midnight you bring the servers down for 30 min, publish, patch and restart. 14 hours means they didn't have the fix and brought the servers down THEN fixed it.
  • killerbeex
Mega servers are good for science projects (puzzles)or chess games (slow)...not raw power of processing requests...
    I think and spell ;)

i understand launch issues and bugs need to be fixed, but they had several betas to work on those. most of those bugs were reported two or three betas ago and were not fixed back then. it is okay though....i expected this so i'm not surprised.

i wanted early access so i could research armor and weapon traits and craft the special bonus armors before the three day release guys and the official launch. early access is a big deal, specially in a game that has important tame based features like feeding your horse and researching craftables. and having it taken from you sucks. i am mountain time, luckily, but the people in the east coast have less time to play than anyone else.

i'm not angry. i understand it happens. it just kinda sucks. THIS is what i paid extra for and i'm being jipped. feels like i paid double for a cool car i can only drive half the time and not when i need it.

i would be cool if they could give me something to make up for it....an extra month of game time would be perfect IMO.

p.s. stop comparing this to wow. that was a million years ago and people should have learned a lot of what NOT to do by now. like saying "this brand of record player used to skip tracks sometimes so you should understand that pandora sometimes doesn't work."

It all depends on what time of day you are able to play the game, and what your expectations were to be able to play during the early access on whether you feel you got screwed or not.

Naturally the ones who can normally play during the times that the server has been down are going to feel screwed or at least partially screwed over with some lost play time they were expecting to have. Those that don't normally play during those hours, well they really aren't going to care that it happened and just call the others whiners.

They did promote a 5 day early start which thankfully happened relatively smooth. The early start ahead of the advertised start time certainly upset a few though. I understand having to bring the servers down for emergency fixes, but when there are unexpected issues that arise, due compensation to your customers should be offered in the end.

The fact is, in the business world. Angry customers will hurt you more in the end than a happy customer will help you. Just look at the different threads in the forums as an example. You'll see more people voicing their frustrations they experienced than people promoting their good ones. Also, angry customers will go out of their way to share their bad experience. So to simplify, the bad will spread faster than the good.

For any business if the bad spreads too much or too fast, then that = both lost paying customers and potential new paying customers. That's why due compensation is very important for a company to give for an angry customer. It soothes the angry customer, silences the majority of the negativity, and more importantly builds a stronger bond between them and their customer. Sometimes the company can even learn better ways to operate so they don't experience those kind of negative customers again.

Just think of your own personal situations you have been in where you think you were wronged by a business somehow. Not everyone is going to think you were wronged. After you voiced your frustration, if the business that wronged you didn't care, you probably told everyone you could about it, told them to avoid that company, and stopped doing business there yourself.

On the other side, if they did listen to your frustration and compensated you somehow, you probably were initially shocked they listened but also now happy with them or at least had neutral feelings again. You most likely shared the story with others in this scenario too, but on this side of the story, the company was promoted and most likely kept a customer. They also potentially gained new customers from you sharing your issue.

I wrote this as ZOS_Jessica was replying, but it's nice to see they do care about their customers. Hopefully we all have much better times down the road.
