Nameplates are VITAL for the gameplay, add them back.

I find it confusing not to have nameplates. I can't even tell NPC from real player.

I just love that, TES powa, and if you want an option to see nameplates, then I want an option hiding mine plz ;)

    Indeed

To be fair, I wouldn't say it is vital, is it handy? Maybe.

I have been playing MMORPG's for the past 10 years with nameplates off, simply because I want that feeling of not knowing who that npc or player is.

I mean after all, it is not like you walk down the street with a floating nameplate above your head in real life right?

He has a point tho. You are presenting your opinion as fact, you are acting like you are speaking for the majority when you have no way to know what the majority wants, you are exaggerating(servers not crashing is vital, nameplates are a convenience at best).

If you would instead simply ask for an option to display nameplates because for you personally, it makes the game better, you would not draw such an ire.

So many fanbois around here who defends the game no matter the logic. Nameplates are EXTREMELY vital to many many gamers and all we want is an OPTION to put them on.

This will not affect your "immersion" or whatever the excuse may be. It will only help the people who are frustrated by their absence. But oh no, we cant have happy people, now can we!?

+1 to OP, I fully support optional nameplates and I feel this is a possible gamebreaker for me.
  • Ragnarr_Rock
Well if Zenimax is willing to add it as an option both sides of the argument will be solved. Those who want it can use and those who doesn't well they don't have to.

Eliran & FinchMP you are both stating what you would like and how you prefer to play the game which is fine, but please keep in mind those are both your opinions. Stop arguing about it and just ask and hope Zenimax would put it back as an option to enable/disable it.

Personally for me it doesn't make much of a difference, I have made friends in the game already and I have asked for help and received it. I have offered help, I have met people in a guild and I have met people just running around. BUT THAT'S ME, that doesn't mean that it will be like that for everyone.

Having nameplates brings no advantage over players that don't use them, so i don't mind having this as an UI option to toggle on and off. It's just a matter of resource allocation for the dev team at this time, i doubt they have enough to work on this as it stands when the game hasn't even launched officially.

In the future its very much something i would like for them to add.

    I also vote for nameplates.

At one point during beta, they said that ESO won't have standard MMO features, because they don't view MMO as a genre and therefore MMO doesn't have "standard features." It's like saying football isn't a sports game.
It was a weird comment in the same post they made when they removed nameplates.

You can't really fault ZoS. This is their first MMORPG and many new dev studios go into the genre with the belief that they have design ideas and philosophies that will revolutionize the industry. Many fall on their faces within a few months. Some are able to repair the damage they did to their product, while others fade into obscurity as niche titles.

The real goal should be to revolutionize the genre through innovative gameplay mechanics and compelling content, not by ripping out the design formula that has taken other companies hundreds of millions of dollars and two decades to perfect.

There is no logical reason for taking a hard stance on nameplates, speech bubbles, and chat channels other than to be different for the sake of being different.
They just have to be mindful that these decisions have consequences and will serve to alienate and divide their playerbase for no reason - there's nothing stopping them from making these things toggle options, other than the game producer wanting to force their personal gameplay preferences on others.

In the end, all I can say is that there's a reason every car has some of the same features, no matter how vintage or modern it is. A car won't get very far without wheels, windows, and a motor.

I don't find them missing at all but for all those who like to see "dave123" and "ohmyhollydoggie" running around there should be an option in the settings to make them happy.

Wrong. I live in a place with the worst internet ever (Hyperbole). If name plates are added it will put more strain on the server and thus will make my game slower. I imagine this will be the same for a lot of people in rural areas. Once again, they are a convenience, not a necessity. I'm not having mine and possibly other people's games being slowed down because you are to lazy to look at a player for his/her name.

I also want an option to not have my name displayed if there are name plates added, just to be difficult for the people who are slowing down my game.

Dude, that would be something done Client side, your Client already knows what are the names of all the players in your area, adding nameplate is only graphical.

Nameplates are not vital, and I like that they don't have them here, makes for a more immersive experience to not have peoples names floating above their head in PVP (the little colored icons are bad enough)

Problem is.. they do confer a visibility advantage in PVP, so if they add the option to have them in game, or an addon adds them, you're at a DISADVANTAGE by not having them, whether it's to your personal taste or not, you end up having to use that addon or enable the nameplates. I'd rather everyone have the same DISADVANTAGE of not having them, then at least.. you have an immersive clean UI like we have now.

I agree nameplates are important. I would like to know if someone I'm standing next to is in the same guild or not, or if there is a particular character I am encountering a lot, etc. Nameplates showing titles or achievements would be nice. Nameplates are important for socializing.
  • skyrimb16_ESO6
Plz add an option to enable nameplates. Thanks.

Please give us the option. It was the first thing I spotted missing from the game when I played it.... that along with no indication on screen when I loot.

Nameplates so I can see my guild mates would be good, as well as the option to see group mates and raid party members. The rest of the time I would have others off. Maybe an option to flag some posts, like a certain little bird, as Useless Drivel after the Insughtful Agree Awesome LOL choices would be good.

I think there are good reasons for it to be disabled (being forced to get to know your group/guild mates by more than just the name plate that hovers over their heads is actually kind of cool) but it would be nice to at least have an easier way to identify NPC vs PC (finding vendors can be a pain in some areas and in the frantic rush of combat it can be frustrating trying to find a teammate).

Well I disagree with your "facts". I wouldn't use this feature if it was available. In fact I turn it off in most games. However, like many stated, options are always a good thing so I wouldn't mind if they added it as an option. You shouldn't state your opinions as facts though when it's just that, opinions.

Nonsense. I realy dont want to screw my game by looking at "Justin Bieber" and " Iwillpwnyouallfckers" around me... This game is awesome as it is. No need to see nicknames. You want social life in game? Go to Raidcall/Teamspeak/Ventrilo whatever with your friends and COMUNICATE than. I have many new friends since early acess starts. And its becouse of my game experience with em not becouse of nameplate over theyre had...

I agree that name plates should at least be an option; I find them extremely helpful and they don't have to be intrusive at all.

I think it would also be nice to have the option for chat bubbles in a party.

As long as it is completely disabled in PVP then whatever. I don't see the need for nameplates but I do enjoy the fact that I can hide in some bushes or behind something and not be found out by a floating bar above my head.

What about instead of nameplates, friends and guild mates get a soft flow when they are close to you (even if it's only in town)? It's a subtle way to draw attention with out having nameplates EVERYWHERE. That would be great to recognize people with out doing too much to break immersion.

I think that the main towns are the least immerse and a soft glow (hopefully different colors for friends list vs guilds) isn't breaking the feeling of the game anymore than everyone crowded around the clothing table.

I'd even settle for a marker on my map (that would be toggled) for friends/guilds.

I honestly don't want nameplates clogging up my screen (because that can get overwhelming too), but I wouldn't mind some way to visually recognize people I know.
