I assumed that any character you make will only get to experience the quests in their faction in PvE. I didn't realize that, once you complete the main quest in your faction, you get to play through the other factions via Cadwell's Silver and Gold quests.

So I made a toon in every alliance when I started because I thought that was the only way I'd get to do the quests in all 3 factions.

I also thought that the game was over once you beat your alliance's main quest. Needless to say, I was very surprised when my toons in each of the 3 alliances all ended up in Cold Harbor eventually. Meridia is a tricky minx...

I also wore impen in PvE and reincforced in PvP :(

Yes, tons of mistakes like consuming food and drinks at the same time thinking I'd get two buffs, not knowing what a decent build looks like and spending skill points into useless abilities, not knowing the abbreviations/lingo, not joining a trade guild early on, starting my own guild when I had no idea what they're about, not using sets, selling almost everything to NPC's to buy my first horse for 10k gold, running around/exploring (without a mount) to gain XP and level up that way, rather than do quests, the list goes on.

Having a separate crafter for each profession; it made most sense that way, plus it allowed me to match them to each character concept...not realising that there would be motifs, and achievements which really call for One Crafter to Rule Them All.

I'm still suffering from this mistake to an extent. I consolidated my equipment on one character fairly early, but I kept my Provisioning, Enchanting, and Alchemy on other characters. Enchanting and Alchemy aren't a problem, but I've never gone back and tried to collect all the Provisioning recipes on my main crafter, because, ouch. I never would have consolidated all of those together, except of course, furniture.

    1. Bread: I would horde bread because I thought it was the most superior food of all time because of the HP boost . I would literally have stacks in my inventory.

    2. Weapons: I wore whatever had the best stats and if it was purple, I thought I was a god. When they broke, I sold them because I didn't know you could repair them. Same goes for armor.

    3. Skills: I equipped whatever had the highest number of damage. Especially after I beat the game and earned the Ultimate from the Soul magic tree. " Wait! I have bread and an ultimate ready!"

    4. Dungeons: My wife and I stumbled across the Banished Cells while adventuring one day and curiously walked in by ourselves....let's just say these low levels conquered the dungeon in about 2 and half hours. We survived on dungeon equipment drops and bread :)

    5. First real group dungeon experience: Imagine this.....Breton sorc with two resto staves with no heals, no damage shields ...blaming the healer for not healing. I was a rock star spamming my heavy attacks and running around with my broken equipment I still didn't know how to fix.

    6. Using expensive crown store boosters on low level quest and then saving those quest in large quantities for a later turn in....*slaps self

What newbie mistakes have you made?
I... may have challenged a certain bat on a certain bleak and icy isle with my very first character while ruefully under-equipped.
First respawn in the game, and I realized I really should craft my poor Leska some white gear before I go for a tougher fight instead of just waiting to have some drop in my lap... ;)

I know what you mean. I did end up making a Master Crafter and he has since surpassed my previous crafters, but it took over a year (granted I didn't play constantly during this time and sometimes my crafting started lagging behind). Regarding provisioning, one only really needs one of each type of recipe for every tier, then the important ones like Witchmother's brew and Dubious Camoran Throne. After that, you can take your time collecting the rest. One thing my crafter still misses that my old Provisioner had is the Psijic Ambrosia recipe...but with XP scrolls and such it's not such a huge problem anymore and you can buy Ambrosia for about 3K.

Split my attribute points evenly, not get a mount till I got one from the crown store (bless my ole lioness tho), use destro/resto in heavy armor as a dps, use the clannfear for a milennia, think that the "Volunteer" title was so cool and rare, and...my favorite. I tried to siege a Elder Scroll gate in Cyrodiil cuz I wanted the skyshard. Didn't know you couldn't damage em until I started using addons and could see the actual health bar value.

    - Not noticing my tooltips changed stats based on my other choices. By believing numbers in tooltips were static, I made some really bad choices with my skill selection.

    - Wasting mats while leveling up to create new armor instead of doing daily writs and wearing what I got/found.

    - Not focusing enough on making at least 10k/day. I was happy when I hit my first million. Now, it's not even close to being enough. I should have known the greed and price fixing would eventually ruin the store system in the game.

    - Rotation? Tip: doesn't mean people taking turns fighting the big one.

    - Playing in first person. Without doubt, the best advice I ever received in the game. I still thank the person for giving me this advice and to "stick with it" to get into 3rd person view (which only took a few hours, and thanks to the camera settings, made the transition much easier). I now have so many soul gems, I don't know what to do with them (where before, I kept stealing them from the shop in Auridon just to keep up).

    - Not researching weapons and armors I wouldn't wear for that character. All those days, wasted.

    - My biggest regret: deleting my first ever character, who was nearly maxed out in research, had full mount training, top gear, and was VR14. A Khajiit NB. Deleted, because playing an NB when the game launched was one of the worst experiences in gaming I ever had. The list above? Yeah, all accumulated into this single character I deleted out of frustration and anger due to noob mistakes.

If there's anything I hope new players take away from this, it's don't make rash decisions. Invested tons into a character and you don't like it? Seriously, pay Crowns to change it, but don't delete it.

Time is no friend to anyone in this game.

I was searching for flaxes, and often mistaken corn flowers for flax from far away, but when I saw it is not flax I never bothered to pick them. I think I missed around 50-100 corn flower, back then it would trippled my money if I sold them in the zone chat or a guild.

Also I was against Addons at first,I thought they will be buggy and dangerous. Now I play with 10+ addons

As far as addons go, this really depends what kind of gameplay you like. I like exploration and want to find stuff and not rush from map marker to map marker to pick it up. certainly miss out on a lot of skyshards like this, but so be it, if I am not looking around careful enough, then I won't have them - simple as that. It does not make me want addons just for the sake of gettng to them more easily.

How you could miss that cornflower, blessed thistle, columbine and so on are quite valuable is beside me. They are in most alchemy writs as an extra to be delivered. Just newbies make health potions with these expensive ingredients - and so they are quickly out of them and so the price is high for them.

I tried to siege a Elder Scroll gate in Cyrodiil cuz I wanted the skyshard. Didn't know you couldn't damage em until I started using addons and could see the actual health bar value.

That's actually explained by one of the NPCs at your own alliance gate temple, and if I remember correctly you're sent to talk to them during the Welcome to Cyrodiil tutorial. If you listen to them they'll explain you need to control both keeps on the path to the gate to open it and take the scroll.

Sprinting to the wide open gate on a capped campaign to grab one of the last shards I'm missing on a particular character is by far one of the most thrilling moments in the game; many times I was ganked right on the shard, and most of the times I came on top. Grabbed my last AD one on my 6th character (EP) just this morning because DC was owning the map in Shor ;)

When I do something new I usually listen/watch in game tutorials and also read a lot of external resources when I'm not playing the game -probably that saved me from quite a lot of mistakes I would have already done. I was reading the forums and the UESP website even before I decided to buy the game - I was part of the beta but the subscribe-to-play model didn't look that good (the game used to be quite bad back then) - so I only decided to pick it up for good when it became buy-to-play.

On my first time in Cyrodiil, I picked up the scout brindle farm quest and snuck all the way from arrius to brindle farm, got the report and snuck back.
I was so happy I didn't meet anyone on the way (aka. managed to stay undetected) that I felt as if I had really accomplished something for my faction in the alliance war.

Built my characters however the hell I wanted. My favourite was a heavy armour Templar using a greatsword. I wanted to be a Paladin....

Honestly, I miss that ignorance. I had a TON more fun with my characters then. My bestie did that for a long time, and I let him, because he had a blast with the game. He quit a few weeks after doing his first few dungeons, and realizing only "viable" builds are allowed. He got bored.

My husband and his bestie ran around the same way, just BSing. So me and a guy I've played with for years carried them through dungeons. It was hard, but they had fun, so it was worth the effort. Also for once my husband was enjoying an MMO! All he did was run around killing wolves... But good enough lol.

Played in first person for weeks - not in Cyrodiil but I hated 3rd person for a long time.

Bought Xivkyn style in the Crownstore and thought it was account wide - 5k crowns later I realized that it didn't.

Was one of the firm believers that closing all 4 pinions at dolmens gave a greater chance of something...

Oh, I made so many mistakes, I can't remember them all... :D

I had no idea I can travel using wayshrines... I thought they are just for resurrection (yes, I didn't pay attention to the tip when I discovered my first wayshrine :D ). So when I needed to go to another zone, I summoned my brave 20% speed horse and rode all the way... :/ When I accidentally discovered wayshrine traveling, I was shocked :o

I thought that shields work like this: if it says "absorb 10000 damage over 5 seconds", it will absorb 10000 damage from every hit I take during these 5 seconds... That's why I crafted 5x Whitestrakes for all my characters.

Also I thought that medium armor is the coolest looking gear in game, so all my characters wore full medium armor, with occasional heavy pieces.

All my characters had bow as second weapon, even "magicka" characters - cause I used that interrupt morph of Poison Arrow and had no idea that staves have interrupt ability too.

When deciding between two items with same trait to research, I researched the highest quality item cause I thought that if I research green item instead of purple, the trait quality I can craft will be lower

I was fishing at sea spot, and other player joined (he was veteran level). I saw a mudcrab nearby and interrupted my fishing to kill it (need to gather more leather for my Whitestrakes :D ), when I returned, the veteran player initiated trade with me and gifted me 100 worms and some divines item for research. Some time later I run out of inventory space and destroyed all those precious worms, like a clueless noob whom I was :'(

I had no idea I need different kind of bait for different water, so when I used some random bait at some random spot and got Used bait, I stopped fishing and went away thinking "It's very unlucky fishing hole, I will find other one" :)

I was selling unfilleted fish to merchant for 3 gold each and though that I will become rich like this. I also had no idea that fish can be filleted, so after I caught a few and went to cooking fire, I still couldn't cook any food which had fish ingredients - and I was so confused why it doesn't :(

I thought that health and health recovery are the only important stats in game (yes, in Skyrim I had all points in health :D ).

Once I asked in some trading guild to link me gold VR16 jack - and all I wanted to know is how much resistance it offers :D The person who linked me it tried to help and said "you don't lose resistances, you lose damage if you don't have at least gold weapons!" I answered "yes, I need to upgrade my weapons at least..." while I had no understanding of this and no intention to; I just wanted to increase my resistance numbers

First two days I made huge mistake of silently disapproving thieves and murderers of innocent NPCs. I thought that I will become rich doing honest work like crafting and gathering. Then I decided to just check what is so attractive to thieves, and just peaked into first random container. I saw a single item worth 40 gold - and it was huge money to me back then :o ...Next day I already had few extra mule characters, and bought my first brown horse <3 No way back B)

Thinking I am ready for Cyrodiil after pathetic tutorial... The tutorial sucks :| I was so ashamed when people were sieging the wall of some keep and I was also sieging... the postern house. Nobody told me and some other people who also sieged this target to stop and that it's useless. I only realized it after the door was destroyed and the wall kept standing  If some more experienced people guided us random noobs there, the keep wall would go down much faster.

I was extremely scared of PvP, and thought that Cyrodiil is full of hidden enemy players everywhere. So in good old Haderus when enemy gates were opened while I was sneaking between delves, I bravely sneaked through half of the map to enemy gates... Literally all time in sneak  It took long time and I was lucky the gates were not closed in the meantime.

My stamblade has resto staff leveled to 50 - cause of wild times when my 5x Whitestrakes, 3x Death wind, random healthy jewelry with health recovery enchants and almost evenly split attributes turned every simple fight into long battle  So instead of reevaluating my "build", I equipped resto staff as second weapon, and those pathetic shields and heals made me little more sturdy (this didn't make fights easier though).
    Her progress:

    1) proud to finally become VR16  Hmm, where do I put this final attribute point?..

    7ZggtGJ.jpg

    2) after some random player in Craglorn suggested me to focus on 1 stat and max my damage, I started with just reallocating my attributes first... So little improvement, but at least first step in right direction :D I didn't have a chance to say "thank you" after all, but if he ever sees this, he will recognize the stubborn heavy armor nightblade werewolf who wouldn't be playing to this day if not for that little advice <3

    LfDFbx2.jpg

    3) even more improvement

    W99SR9I.jpg

    4) Clockwork DLC release, in my budget PvP gear though :D It is also not perfect (1x Kena, 1x Veli, 5x Hundings, 3x Agility), since I either kill fast or run out of resources and die, but it's godly compared to what she was long time ago :)

    KP30LkG.jpg

    5) Summerset release, in her PvE materials gathering gear

    u9nRzsc.jpg

Also back when she was Whitestrakes user, some people from small trading guild invited me to CoA II as dd... I was everything I don't want to meet nowadays: bad gear, clueless about successful abilities, 2h/bow Wrecking Blow + light attack spammer on mob packs at daedroth boss. Our poor, poor tank and healer, they didn't expect this :'( I also had Shadowy disguise and used it (it removed burning dots and reset mobs aggro :D ). I don't know how we got to Ash Titan, but after lot of wipes, out of desperation I tried last thing: I bravely sneaked behind him and opened the fight with my gloriously weak Wrecking Blow :D It's the thing I will never forget.

I thought that having a different character for every craft would be smart, because then each would only put a few skill points into that and leave the rest for combat. Levelled a Breton Stamina / Magika Hybrid DK - in Ashen Grip and some magika set :D
With Sword + Shield and a damned Bow of all things.

I heard you could 'play as you like' and I sure took that to an extreme.
She's now a MagDK and works just fine. And also has the Bow + S+S skill-lines levelled up, just in case that sort of play comes back into fashion ;)

I also ran everywhere for months, because I thought Wayshrines were 1000g to use each time, as I was just using them as jump points from the map without actually visiting a Wayshrine first....

I was never a Newbie in ESO, but I can remember in my first MMO, Dark Age of Camelot, I just couldnt figure out the concept of hitting something at maximum range. I never encountered a mechanic like that in another game before (not in that importance anyway).
And since in DaoC you couldnt cast when you got hit by melee, it often ment my death if I didnt utilize max range.
My girlfriend at the time had to show me how to do it ^^
