You don't. You take it straight to 11.
Now you're talking!

They started it at the time they decided to start it.
That means they knew what time it was going to be when they set the time to start it.
I say that with the utmost respect for you as a person.
The difference is that Gina probably isn't around to update us. Pretty sure when she has further info, if any, she'll let us know given then length of the downtime.
Whether Gina is there or not, I'm sure there is someone in the building capable of taking the responsibility to get an estimate and typing:
'Ya'll can get some sleep if you want, we expect to be up AROUND XX:xx. We me be sooner, we may be later, but thats an approximate window at this point.'
No less respect for anyone intended or implied. We're all friends here.
Here's the thing. Those servers? They're not in the same building as Gina and the folks who code, support, etc. Right about now the non-tech (the people NOT doing the server work) are likely showing up for the day so hopefully we'll see some info soon.
Even *I* have a telephone that can communicate across multiple time zones and reach me with info even if I'm at home, a passenger in an automobile, or having a cup of coffee (somewhere away from the desk that I'm hardly ever at because I do all kindsa stuff in all kindsa places depending on what wastepaperbasket fire I'm putting out at the time) ....
When you're asleep? Nice talent that. In any case, do see below errr above.
I'm in the same time zone as their Maryland offices.
It's 09:27 AM here, so it's not time for the mid morning-pre-brunch nap yet.
Things may have changed since I was in the industry but 0900 was middle of the night. We tended to start trickling in around 1000 and work 'til all hours. Only staff that held to "regular business hours" weren't involved in coding, support, etc., they were usually the beancounters and office staff.
Perhaps that has changed in the last decade.

OTOH, when stuff like 'special projects' or 'occasional tasks' that occurred regularly but not daily were scheduled - the normal schedule and crew was altered to take into account the fact that the normal order of business wasn't going to be 'normal' for the duration of that event.
For example: If the server went down during maintenance and that down time was still extant at 5 minutes before 'quitting time', people weren't expected to be putting on their coats and heading for the exits until the relief crew showed up and was brought up to speed regarding extended refit/repair.
I know you know business works like that, I'm sure ZOS works like that, too, but I'm just pointing out that server maintenance at a multi-million gold company supplying a subscription service to millions of people around the world on a daily basis -> scheduled semi-regularly isn't always considered to be 'just another event like all the other ones', no matter how much one would like it to be completely without issue or surprise.
Everyone take a chill pill, doesn't it make more sense for them to go through things bit by bit and make sure its all a'ok than a quick fix and we all have the same problems we have been having this week..
They are not fairy god mothers, going through two mega servers takes some time, plus testing. Go outside and play with a stick or something....

True to a point but I'm not sure what arrangement they have with the tech folk over here in the EU.There may be contractual issues involved. No clue, plus, this week has been wicked with respect to extra work on the servers no matter the geo. location.
My point was ONLY to address the NON-tech staff. The others, well, I don't think folk like Gina need to stay up all night to essentially say the same thing over and over again. Sure, it'd be comforting to those who are staring at the clock but anyone who's played MMOs knows that if it can go wrong or take longer, it will. We're all frustrated by the events of this week, those of us here in Germany (well, some of us) are also dealing with a real mess due to a hub problem. Not been a great week. I'd rather Gina (et alia, again, non-techs/coders) had their rest so they can deal with grouchy people.

I'm sorry your week hasn't gone as smoothly as it should have, really, I get no joy in being in a small pool of people who have fewer issues.
And I hope the coming weeks are everything you need them to be.
Good fortune to you, my friend.
And we agree that Gina has too many grouchy people she needs to solve issues for, completely outside her control.

What concerns me being on an NA server is for a simple database maintenance, this is the longest time the game has been down since I started playing about 16 months ago.
