What makes you leave a guild?

For me, it's using off site communication tools to have discussions with guild members. I don't belong, or want to belong, to FB (especially), Discord, or whatever other offsite website that's in use.

The other is lotteries, with the intent of bidding for a store, offering gold as a reward. GMs who practice this defeat the purpose of the attempt as every single gold piece needs to go into the bidding in the hope of securing the win. Even if the fee is small to buy a ticket (1k) in the hopes of getting 100k, that's still 99k gold not going to the store.

I'll be dismissing myself soon, but first, I do want to contribute to the guild bank before I go, so others within it can at least benefit from my goods I do not need.

Next up: finding another guild, hopefully one which can specialize in helping me "L2P" or "GG".

If they consistently can't keep a high volume trader in Mournhold or Rawl'kha. Losing it for a week every so often isn't a big deal, more than that and I start to look for a more stable guild.

    6) No Guild Chat. Active enough, but if you want to do anything, you'll be spending all your time tabbed out chatting in their discord/teamspeak/whatever, or sit in voice chat all the time to be up to date or included in what's going on. Often, the GM doesn't log in and sits in whatever program and controls things from there. I'm not into sitting in voice chat unless I am actively in a dungeon or trial or pvping in group with these people and need it to get direction on what to do and where to go. I do not want to listen to someone rant about their workday, chew, complain about medical problems, or talk about whatever else that isn't directly related to ongoing and current activities being done AT THAT MOMENT with them in the group. I want to play instead of endlessly be tabbed out in another program. Guilds have text chat; use it.

I mean, to be fair on this point, there is chat in game but it really, really sucks compared to Discord. With Discord you have multiple rooms to divide conversations by topic, you can tag people, you can post pictures, you can have discussions with people who aren't able to log in, etc. I only ever use in-game chat if I absolutely have to, the rest of the time I use my guild's discord, even while playing. That said, I have two monitors, so it does make it a lot easier.

Inactivity, the GM leaving, or horrid players. The most recent one treated me like garbage in a trial and when I called a guy out for scamming people- hard- no one saw the issue.

    Horrid GM too.
I divide guilds into three categories, so that my criteria depends on that:
    • Trading: I gladly pay a weekly fee but I do expect a trader in a main city or, at worst in a secondary spot such as Daggerfall or Craglorn. I usually wait for the new traders then I pay my fees, so that I can decide whether to pay or not (I am paying for a service, in th eend). If a trading guild fails to win a good trader (or any trader at all) for a couple of weeks I leave.
    • Trials: I do expect many trials during the week. Many normals. Several veteran. Progression runs each week. I don't mind if sometimes there is no spot for me, but I want the guild to be active. I expect crystals farm runs on the weekend. I enjoy hosting both normal and veteran trials myself. I leave if there is no activity. I don't expect any trader.
    • Casual/Social: I am there mainly for the people. I don't expect neither a trader nor veteran trials. I do expect people to be friendly and help each other, questing for fun, helping each other getting a monster mask. I leave if the guild essentially dies.

In all cases I do expect people to respect others. I leave if the guild masters allow people to freely insult others.

This.. but, with so many players who, for whatever reasons are just asses or immature, there are just a lot of disrespect going in guilds or zone.

    Interesting topic.
I hope guild masters read it.

Too many guilds out there claim the same : that they do everything, that everyone is welcome, that the only requirement is respect and courtesy.
You cannot do everything well, you cannot please everyone, and sensitivities vary A LOT when it comes to courtesy.

I like guilds that have an identity and stick to it. Too many of them claim one thing on their advertisements and presentation sites, while doing the exact opposite. I also like guild masters that are aware of their responsibility and don't leave for extended periods of time (if not forever) without delegating privileges or giving away the crown. It's just a shame to see how many well working social groups have been diluted just for that reason.

i occasionally take long breaks and that doesn't work well with guilds. Id like to see fleshed out npc guilds

say you join the fighters guild in Auridon then you get a chat for all who joined there (in Auridon) as well. Some form of basic merchant as well. The limitation that you can only have one of these at a time for all the guilds like mages, thieves, dark brotherhood and psyjic order.

    that would be enough.

Petty politics. The co-gm got offended when I explained why her strat wouldn't work. Apparently even though I was right I was wrong to call her out in open chat. I really cant stand people who treat this game as something more than one.

In case of trade guild I usually leave because I don't have enough things to sell, or the sales are too low to occupy a slot with it. If I end up doing sales of under 100K per week in consecutive weeks in a given guild I leave it and find a new one. I currently have 2 trade guilds, and when I have enough merchandise I can easily rack up 1M in sales because they have well placed traders; on average weeks it's about 400K. I don't feel I need a 3rd since I prefer to store items for longer, then sell them gradually, instead of doing "fire sales" at depressed prices ex. motif pages dropping like candy during the anniversary event.

In case of end game PvE guilds, if I feel the activity is either insufficient, or qualitatively inferior, I will eventually leave. For example I was in a guild with over 200 members, which had a few core groups but otherwise the trial runs were infrequent, and went quite badly in most cases. Some pledge runs were so bad I could have picked people from zone chat and done much better. I dropped that guild recently because I joined a smaller one run by long term in game acquaintances, who are very serious players and give me quality advice, and runs with them are much smoother.

    Change of guild structure.

A guild I was in is a very social and helpful guild and usually had a decent location guild trader most weeks. Totally good guild, would recommend the awesome people in it.

They decided as of April to drop the trading aspect and be a social guild only. They put up a message in advance so that if having a trader was important to you, you'd know and could make other arrangements.

I was sad to leave. Again, nice group of people and very helpful. But I don't really participate in a ton of social stuff or chat a whole bunch. I do, however, very much want a trader. So, I left that guild and joined a different one with a trader. Seems okay so far.

No drama, no negative feelings. We just went our separate ways due to changing priorities.

There were a lot of little reasons I left the last guild I was in, but the main one was that I couldn't attend guild events because of my work schedule. I work evenings and we work a lot of 6 and 7 day weeks during most of the year so I didn't see any reason to stay and take up a spot that someone else could use.

I've left several guilds for a variety of reasons.

Trade guilds: I used to be in two but scaled down to one because I found I was playing less and less outside of pvp, so it was difficult to find time to maintain 60 items for sale between the guilds. So I just picked the one I liked the most, had the most success with, had the best trader locations with and dropped the other one.

PVE guilds: I joined one on a whim since I was looking for a guild to run daily vet dungeons with ( I guess I was tired of pugging it ). It ended up that barely anyone was running dungeons and most were getting more serious about trials which really wasn't what I was looking for.

PVP guilds: I've left multiple -- 3 come to mind immediately. Mainly this is an issue of fitting in and feeling like a part of the team rather than an outsider. One I felt was making unreasonable requests, like I had to be in group if I was online and I felt like I wasn't able to do things outside of PVP.

I currently have five guilds right now but feel like I could easily leave 2 or 3 of them if I wanted/needed to. Really just my pvp guild and trade guild are the ones I'm utilizing lately. The other 3 are PVX guilds that I joined because of friends -- almost all of which aren't playing anymore, certainly not consistently.

    I usually don't join guilds.

Only when I've built up a decent stash of stuff to sell or need money quickly do I join a trading guild to sell it all. Then I leave the guild because I most likely will not have anything worthwhile to sell again for months, so I am unable to meet sales requirements during that time and/or don't want to pay the alternative weekly fee or buy raffle tickets.

Also, I often take breaks from the game, and many guilds have inactive policies.

It's just easier to not be in one regularly with my play style.

Whole point of a guild is to help and be happy with people, not a measuring contest, putting others down or achievement glory/facerubbing.

    Reasons I've left a guild:

-Trading guild failed to get a trader for over 2 months (despite paying fees).
-Social PVP guild Officer scammed me, then hurled insults at me. Leader refused to take action.
-Trials Guild invited me to do weekly trials. Stayed for 1.5 months and they never ran a single trial.

Usually I only leave if they either aren't as advertised or there is a serious moral/ethical or social transgression that isn't handled appropriately.
