PTS Update 17 - Feedback Thread for Outfit System

Overall I liked the system quite a lot.

There are things that need to be addressed:

Why am I paying to dye my armor? That is jacked. I never paid before. I should not be paying now. Especially not 11k for my whole outfit. While I can afford it on many toons, plenty cannot. also people might want to change it. I get you want gold sinks and lord knows we have many of them. But this is a bit silly.

    Hide helmet option pls.

Hide or not hide tabbard option pls. Ironically tabbards used to be the one thing to hide the hideousness of some of these armors. But now that we've got all these nice choices that you have given us from some of these rather well done armors, we'd like to still be able to wear a tabbard to represent the guilds but be able to hide it so to see the armor we just spent a fortune showing off.

And of course, one solid whine or wanting more cool colors and that I have to now go after achievements to get them. But hey, something to look forward to.

Overall, I give this a solid 4/5 stars. Well done. Just pls address these things others have mentioned. TY

This is the official feedback thread for the Outfit System. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
    • Was the system easy to understand?
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    • Do you have any other general feedback?

    Answer.

    1. Yes the system was easy to understand.
    2. No trouble except that I will note that in the Housing Furnishing Crown Store it's still listed as a Dye Station.
    3. ABSOLUTELY! Fun as heck!
    4. Gold because there was no Outfit Token in the PTS crownstore.
    5. Feedback: I had no idea that using dye on the outfit was going to cost gold, if I HAD been using a crown outfit token I would have wasted it because my tendency is to save the outfit before heading into the dye section so somehow people need to make sure they are done, DONE with the outfit before they chose to use the Outfit Token. And the other issue I had was trying to locate a particular style based on just icons and always losing the location of my favorite styles because they are on different grids depending on the size of the icon when you change the armor / weapon type so they are not always in the same grid location. Perhaps a 'favorite style' toggle?

Was the system easy to understand?
Relatively, once I noticed the drop down menus, the "hide" option, and found the remove button. Like others, I think the interface could use a little tweaking. What if I want to compare light and medium side by side, or only see 3 styles as I flip between them making a decision? Perhaps a button to highlight preferred options or something, because hovering over each little icon to find the one I liked but wasn't sure on takes longer than it needs to.
Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
I just used the dye station in my house.
Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Enough that I can see spending a few hours on it.
Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    Gold.
Do you have any other general feedback?
I do not object to an upfront cost to create an outfit, though I would prefer the options to use my own materials instead of spending up to 3K per piece, but I do object to the cost of dying and REdying. Dying armor and costumes has always been free (or, paid for by achievements, looking at it another way). I would like to be able to change my look occasionally, but I don't want it badly enough to spend thousands of gold on it every time.
Also, why can the dyes not show up the same color? I understand there might be some difference between metal, leather, and cloth, but finding the perfect robe only to realize that it won't hold a decent dye is frustrating. This has always been a frustrating aspect of the armor dying system, but I was hoping that the outfit system could fix that. I can't be the only one who wants white to be white, red to be red, purple to be purple, gold to be gold, etc...

    • Was the system easy to understand? Yes.
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it? No.
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun? Very yes!
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits? I tried to do both, but trying to buy a token on the 'which currency are you using' screen took me to a 'No Matches Found' page, and leaving that kicked me out of the Outfit screens. (Re-entering has my selections still highlighted, but not being previewed. See screenshot. When I saved the outfit and switched to a new one and came back it still wasn't previewing. I had to change the selections again, and then only the new selections would preview.) Gold worked fine though.
    • Do you have any other general feedback? Only ten slots??? I hope you plan to expand on that quickly!

    • Was the system easy to understand?
System is very easy. Just needs a search option.
[*] Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    Nope, also easy.
[*] Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Loved it will be spending lots of time here.
[*] Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
I used gold and the tokens. Would much like there is be an AP option.
[*] Do you have any other general feedback?
AP for cost. Have the first 3 slots unlock-able with gold. Search option.

This recent update has made me sad. Sad for the game. Sad for the community. Sad to pay whatever it is now. I want the previous eso back.

I'll give my official feedback after hide helmet gets fixed, but...

    What?!

I hopped onto the PTS to check this, and indeed the outfit slot upgrade has been added... and it maxes out at 10 slots! I realize that I'm something of an outlier here, but I've got more than 20 crafted gear outfits in my main character's inventory right now. I was hoping to be able to expand my fashion repertoire by including lower-level looks and, eventually, uncraftable looks to my outfit rotation. Instead, it seems I'll have to decide which outfits I can stand to get rid of.

If we are going live with this 10 outfit limit, I will be sad indeed. :(

I love it!! This my main thought.

1 thing too bad - that u made for Gold. I dont want to free either. In my opinion it should cost STYLE materials.
Coz it also will rise some economy (for people thats love trading) Style materials will cost much more and will be mach rare. Coz used also for crafting and furnishing. In some point we will get lack of them and people will start farming / buying ))
+ It also good for u coz Mimic Stones u sell could find more use. Like for crown styles or of lack of style materials. Think about it :)
I dont mean to make for 1 item! Make it 10-50-100 (Mimic still should be 1) same cost that u made for gold (1 item in NPC cost 15g ofcoz more rare styles will cost more for us but it our problem ;) )

Also since u made it via station and not NPC style item make more sense and lore friendly

Overall, I really love the outfit system. I'm having a ton of fun messing around with it.

When I made my first outfit, I used gold to pay for it. I don't love that that we are also being charged to dye it. I tend to stick with a look for quite some time, so the cost of changing the look of your gear isn't going to be a huge deal for me. I think the most expensive look I came up with so far was somewhat over 22k gold, I don't remember how much dying it added to the cost.

On my second outfit, I used gold.

Third, a token. But I had a costume on and was super ridiculously tired and only just put it together that the costume was the reason I was having an issue. Will confirm later since I am about to take kids to school and head to work.

I love that this gives a new reason to collect all those motifs. I am a bit behind and not interested in paying out the nose for pages. So, I have something else to do, go farm motifs that I am missing.

    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    • Do you have any other general feedback?

The system was easy to understand. I had no trouble accessing it. The Outfit System is not necessarily "fun" but it is fantastic to work with, super exciting, really cool, fantastically useful, and a rather powerful tool, that I really, really liked. I used gold because I couldn't find the tokens in the store. I also couldn't find extra outfit slots in the store. My other general feedback is identical to probably 80% of the rest of these posts: Why does dying outfits cost gold? Why is it that the more time and/or gold (which also translates into time) that a motif costs you to acquire, the more it costs you to equip? That seems counter intuitive. If a player spends hours farming gold or robbing NPCs or running the same dungeon on a loop to finally get the one schematic they wanted, why then do they have to pay more to show it off than a racial motif?

To be honest, I really don't see why the system costs gold at all. I was planning on saving up and spending crown on tons of outfit slots for my characters but I don't see any real point if it's gonna cost tons of gold to fill them each time anyways. That being said, the gold cost is my only complaint about the system. I thoroughly enjoy the way it works. My other general feedback would be, ignore the haters about the hide head-slot button move. It makes infinitely more since being in the Appearance -> Hats tab of the collection interface than being hidden in a menu in the settings. I assume the bug that's preventing it from being automatically put in everyone's collection will be fixed before it goes live, and thus am not worried about that.

Weapon dying is the bee's knees. Being able to use any motif I know at any level with any color is awesome, and the material colors are cool. Overall I give this part of the update a 9 out of 10, with the only point off being the gold costs associated.

I spent several hours playing with the system yesterday. My literal only complaint: Cost for dyeing. I feel this system is on the verge of perfection and I've been pleasantly surprised by this in all honesty. But that cost for dyeing something that I am making... that's a BIG downside, to me. Huge. I literally hate that, I've been gripping about it to everyone in my household (we all play) since yesterday lol! Seriously, get rid of that.

You do that and add an optional checkbox to hide tabbards (in general bc hey, options are awesome) then to me, the outfitting system will be perfect.

    • Was the system easy to understand?
Pretty straightforward, although on my first attempt to create an outfit I couldn't save it. I had to log out, but was able to recreate and then save it the second time.
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
No, I used the dye station at my house
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Yes! It was nice to be able to revisit and view all the styles I have learned in one place - including all the lower level style.
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
      Gold
    • Do you have any other general feedback?
Please don't charge gold for dyeing outfits. I often experiment and change my dyes frequently and the game feels more and more like it is sucking hard at my hard earned gold. Most of the dyes are unlocked through hours of game play, and having to then pay gold to apply them in an outfit doesn't sit right with me.

Conceptually I love this system. It's really similar to something I suggested in the crown store ideas thread back in 2015, it's nice to see that come to life in some form.

    2 things about the design:

-Epaulets don't fit with a lot of outfits, and there isn't really a reason to not be able to hide them at this point. The gear visual identification argument went out the window with swords that can be reskinned as axes and maces. Epaulets tend to entail a helm, and just seem awkward and out of place with hide helmet on. I'd like to see an option to hide the shoulders, either in the game UI or from the outfit system.

-While this system is a good candidate for a gold sink, a cost spread of 20:1 seems rather outrageous. I can actually buy the entire celestial motif for the price of creating a single outfit for a single character in celestial. The costs seem arbitrary. Why is a high supply motif like celestial 2k/piece while the rarest motif in the game (Buoyant) is 1k a piece? Not sure what the point of varying costs is, let alone a 20:1 spread. If it's so new players can make outfits without a lot of gold, that's fine, but I can't see justifying 20x the cost of a base motif for late game players. I highly doubt the average player is making 20x the gold of a newbie. Something like 5:1 or 10:1 would be more realistic.

    Some QOL things:

If I select 3 dye colors for a piece, then cycle through styles, any style with less than 3 dye slots will revert the missing color to the current dye color of the piece (if there is one). This makes it impossible to cycle through styles with previewed dye colors. The system should remember the previous dye when I select a piece with less than 3 dye slots, then apply it to the preview if I select a different piece with 3 slots.

I shouldn't lose an outfit If I don't have enough gold to apply it, then need to leave the station to go to the bank. The UI should remember the settings when I get back.

    Used both.

Can we have a way to also preview locked dyes? An option to also hide tabard, and maybe shoulders, would be awesome.
Also, the Crown Store Outfit Slot seems to be per character, would be nice to have an (more expensive) option to buy slots that are account wide.

Apparently this isn't the case any more. Perhaps it was a bug that my first outfit automatically dyed to the colours of that character's armour. Boo.

I did make an outfit on a second character who doesn't know all of the motifs, and confirmed that he had the same selection of styles in the Outfit System as my primary crafter. I'm actually rather pleased with the outfit I made and have taken a bunch of screenshots with all of the item names and colours, so that I can recreate it immediately when this patch hits Live.

Currently it's 50 gold per gear piece (doesn't matter which colours you use or how many channels you dye) and 350 gold per weapon. However, there is also a bug that when you switch to the dye all channels tool, the cost for dyeing becomes MUCH higher.

I seemed to have issues on crafting an outfit on alternate characters for some reason after I set it to one character. I even made sure to have the style motif learned.

Second I think it's a potential problem for pvp and others that you won't be able to tell the type of Weapon and if a weapon is something like a DSA, VMA, or asylum weapon. Being able to tell the type let's you prepare to face axes/battle axes with bleed, maces/mauls with penetration, daggers with crit, or swords/great swords with damage. Seeing that it's something with a special ability is also important for some. This is minor given my casual plausible for PVP, but might be a bigger issue for others.

Mostly yes, finding all the necessary tabs and options took a few minutes but was easy enough to understand.

Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    No

Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Very, especially options to go to old lvl armor looks.

Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    Gold

Do you have any other general feedback?
One thing to help get the desired look would be an option to hide a single piece with a "nothing" slot. I really wanted an outfit without the shoulder guards showing.

The system is relatively easy to understand, and the gold cost seems fairly reasonable for someone like me who doesn't intend to make changes to Outfits often.
I've been hoping a system like this would be introduced, and it does not disappoint.

Some ways I think it could be improved:

    1) More dyes (more options are always an improvement)

    2) More uniformity between the way dyes display on armor pieces of different styles. Using the same dye colors on different styles can often result in totally different looks, making if difficult to mix sets and have them blend together. Having more uniformity between the way colors display on different armors would be the most efficient fix for this. Having more dyes in general would also act as a sort of fix.

    3) More dynamic tabard display. I love tabards, but having them hide most of the newer/more sculpted chest pieces beneath what is essentially a black t-shirt somewhat breaks a lot of looks, and I think turns a lot of people off from wearing them at all. There are a few ways I could see to fix this: Easy Fix - Just make a flat texture version of all chests to go under tabards when they are equipped. Hard Fix - Make it to where each chest alters the tabard topology to fit over itself.

    4) Make Helmets hideable from the Options menu again. One thing that somewhat disappoints me with this new system despite everything I love about it, is that we will no longer be able to toggle our helmets, instead making them invisible from the Outfit Station. I think this should simply be kept as it currently is on Live. I personally use an add-on that allows me to toggle the Hide Helmet options with a key press, which gives far better immersion than having to do it at the Outfit Station.

My thoughts on the new Outfitting system:
    1. Dying should be free, as it currently is on live, and should stay that way even with outfits.
    2. You should be able to scroll while in the preview to zoom in and out on your character, you cant see the top of most 2 handed melee weapons. And I dont want to spend money on something and then find it looks horrible when i can actually see the top.
    3. I think that setting a styled item should not just use gold, but it should either use just the style material and maybe gold as well, depending on your crafting skill level. I think it should cost no gold or very little if you are full level crafter.
    4. With adding style materials to the cost you can add the use of mimic stones, which im sure ZOS would be all for.
    5. I'm honestly impressed with it and really like it, great work.

Keep in mind they have to have space to store up to 10 outfits per character per account, with millions of accounts. In the grand scheme of things that's probably not too much storage, but it does add up. This is also yet another reason why there should be no gold cost for creating and dyeing outfits. People are already willing to pay for huge numbers of outfit slots, so there's no extra monetization needed, and the hard cap on outfit limits means those of us with a lot of ideas or who like to change things up frequently are going to end up paying loads of gold into a system we already worked our asses off to master. Motif knowledge is cost enough.

A "hide tabard" would be lovely. I like to always wear my tabard so guild is in my nameplate, but often want to show off what I'm wearing...

This exactly. And dyeing outfits should be free.

Was the system easy to understand?
    Yes.

Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    No.

Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Yes. Good way to preview a variety of armour sets when mixed and matched.

Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
Tokens, purely because they are free on the PTS. I have been on hiatus for around 6 months after burning out and am returning to the game, so very little actually money on my toons. In the Live version, I will not be spending money to change my armour style, only gold.

Do you have any other general feedback?
    1. Dyes should not cost gold, you have already unlocked them.
    2. Would love to be able to hide additional pieces of armour (Chest, Shoulders, belt). Lot of opinions against it regarding running around naked, yet you already have the Nordic bather's towel so that argument is mute. Lot of different outfits already in the game that do not have shoulders (Dark brotherhood outfit, Larissa's outfit, etc), others without a chest piece (Dark shaman); so makes sense to be able to make a custom outfit style without it as well. Especially since there are so many shoulder pieces that appear to be hovering in mid air over the shoulders instead of strapped to the toon's bicep / armour's shoulder plate.
    3. Would like to find out if once you unlock the motif on your crafter, do all other toons have access to that armour style on the character, or do you need to unlock the motifs on every toon?

I like it so far. Obviously it's better if you have all the motifs to create from. But each outfit is only for 1 char, even though you need to pay for it? Like I can't make a favorite "heal" outfit and use it on both my healers? I tried logging to a different char and I had to start over and pay again. Is that wai?

I feel weapon styles and armour styles could be consolidated into one category, equipment styles.

The menu was very intuitive to navigate and the inclusion of a search bar is a nice touch! The one issue is it takes a while (relatively speaking) to scroll through all the styles when viewing all weights. Perhaps it could default to the item type/weight currently worn?

I was able to find a satisfactory mesh of armors, so the Outfit station was fun. I already spend time closing in on hours deciding on styles and cross referencing with third party sites, and the Outfit station removes the need to consume materials to preview and the need to alt-tab! While a shame we only get one slot per-character for free (a gripe which may remain depending on the cost of additional slots), I am looking forward to assembling more foot soldier and adventurer styles.
