PTS Update 17 - Feedback Thread for Outfit System

My concern is the gold cost to Dye the outfits. Why was a cost added to that for ESO+ members? Also, I really like the idea of outfit slots, it feels like it should be account wide, not specific character.

The system was easy enough to understand.

Not sure i agree with account wide slot. What if you want your alts to wear a different outfit? I dont wanna pay each time to change it when i log on alts

The outfit system could also integrate costumes perhaps. If the Outfit chosen has clear slots for the legs for example when I wear a costume that could show at the leg level only. So you can wear your costume and if you have empty slots that one shows through.

Regarding "account wide", it sounds like they ran some database queries to determine population averages for number of characters and number of "main" characters. If I recall my numbers from the stream, it is like 4 or 5 characters per account, average, with 1 or 2 of them being "main" characters. Sounds like they feel that for "one or two" characters, it is reasonable to have character specific slots, and for the rest of the account, one slot will be more than enough.

Also, factor in that they are charging to make each outfit, so outfitting a full stable of characters (15) with the maximum number of slots (10) will cost a fortune. I don't see a lot of people doing it.

Pile on top of that the fact that with 15 characters and 9 purchasable slots per character, there are 135 Crown Outfit Slots to be purchased. This sounds a lot better than 9 to anyone on the Crown Store side of the game. The potential revenue from purchasing the Slots, along with the Tokens, is probably how they justified the expense to develop the feature.

Having spent a little more time making an outfit for another alt, I had a little more feedback:
-100% agree that the dye slots need to remember what dyes were there when cycling through different armor styles. Having to go back and reapply every time I clicked a piece that was missing a slot and then back to one that had it was aggravating after the second time.
-Also really annoying to go to dyes to redye, then have to click back on the armor piece I was working on (say, gloves) and scroll back down to find where I was. It needs to save your last window or whatever, the same way the alt key remembers which ui screen you had up last.
-Can't they hold still when making weapons? My alt is swaying back and forth which is making it hard to see the details. Also, as others have requested: resheathing.
-Large weapons are partially out of the screen—can't see my 2-handed sword tips
-I would also appreciate a zoom feature.
-Just noticed the material dyes at the bottom. Why are these not retroactive for master crafters? I assure you, I have indeed deconstructed pieces of every level, and since farming them is impossible, it is yet more gold required to use this already expensive system.

You can craft an item of every level and deconstruct it last i checked (That's how I unlocked them on PTS)

I dunno if it's been mentioned yet, but weapons whose styles have been changed by an outfit no longer play the enchantment visuals when drawn.

Also, I presume that since there's a "Clothing" section in addition to light, medium, and heavy, we'll eventually be able to use the looted clothing styles (at least)?

As it is I probably will not be using the Outfit system. My initial post is floating around in the earlier pages but the tl;dr is that being forced to pay to use the dye feature has no precedent and makes the entire feature incredibly unappealing, as it heavily discourages using it more than a single time.

The gold prices being inconsistent is unappealing, Hide Helm's new implementation is unwanted and frustrating, the sheer cost of creating an outfit is offputting, and there is absolutely no incentive for players to use this feature over costumes we can dye for free.

ZOS is just creating a feature that will be used perhaps a handful of times before being abandoned due to its frustrating and overpriced nature.

I hope hide helm returns to its previous functionality. It seems to be less functional than before and removes options.. quality of life updates are supposed to help and not hinder.

Also, consider removing "Buy new outfit slot " from the drop down menu. You can still buy the slot in the crown store without having an option in the drop down menu. It kind of cheapens the game to free-to-play games levels and ESO is better than that.

But what if change layer of outfit and make it priority over costume layer?
With such you could wear any costume and customize it even further by outfit system add of different armor parts. Same Costumes would start look different based on outfit changes and would keep costumes highly valuable after implement of outfit system.

    Hello there,
Was the system easy to understand?
    Yes, very easy.
Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    Nope, none at all.
Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
I've been waiting for this since the game launched, I love it to pieces, you made me very happy.
Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    Gold!
Do you have any other general feedback?
I would love it if I could clear an applied piece by pressing X while hovering over it in the style window. (It'd probably be simple to hack an AddOn together which right-clicks moc(), then selects the "remove"-option, but it might as well be part of the standard UI for the console peasants players.

And there's this, which I thought I'd put into an own thread since it's not really feedback but rather feature requests.

    Great work, keep it up!

Dyes on outfits should NOT cost gold. Because of bad lighting on outfit-stations and it being not reasonable, when dyeing always had been free of charge.

I'm fine with the cost for applying the styles to the outfits. After all - I won't change it more than two or three times a month and that should be manageable, financially-wise.

But dyes costing gold ... total d*ckmove.

This is the official feedback thread for the Outfit System. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
    • Was the system easy to understand?
      - Initially confusing, felt cluttered. After a bit of playing around, its ok.
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
      - No
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
      - Again, cluttered but overall it is fun.
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
      -Gold
    • Do you have any other general feedback?
      - From what I gather, with hide helmet, if we want the same outfit we just made but with a hidden helmet we either have to go back and forth to a station or we buy another slot with crowns to save one with that function. On top of that hide helmet will no longer function on polymorphs?!? That's upsetting considering crown store purchases but also in game work to get some of them and now their functions are limited. I'm extremely disappointed in this aspect of the system.
      - Suggestion: keep hide helmet short cut in the settings so we don't have to go to a station every time AND if its function on polymorphs cant be kept as is, change the actual polymorphs to have no helmet by default and offer a function to ADD a helmet.

    1. Dying for ESO plus members should be free across the board. Gear/Costumes/Outfits
    2. More hide options (especially shoulders and tabards)
    3. Add the ability to use styles that are not in Motifs. IE Monster set styles that you've looted, Lich, etc.

Easy to understand: Mostly. I did fumble a bit with figuring out how to display the outfit once made, until I realized the costume I'd tossed on my template character was overwriting the outfit. I haven't tested multiple outfit slots on one alt yet to check how easy it is to swap around. I also had an issue with trying to purchase an outfit only to belatedly realize that even though it showed a purchase price I had some unknown motifs in the mix - a popup or other warning "you do not know all motifs in this outfit" on purchase attempt might help, though I admit that was just user error and quickly figured out on my part.

Trouble finding: Not at all. The various notes and announcements had made it clear that any dye station was now an outfit station so I knew exactly where to find them, and the mouseover tooltips on the map said Outfitting rather than Dye so new seekers shouldn't have any more issue with this than with any other craft station.

Fun: Yes. I love cosmetic stuff like this. I've spent about 2 hours per outfit on 3 different outfits and enjoyed the time greatly. See general feedback below for a suggestion to improve.

Gold or Tokens: I only actually bought one outfit, once I had a template character who could detach from the Outfit Station while wearing all the pieces I'd chosen. I pre-bought a few tokens (hey, 1 crown each!) but then realized I also had 100K gold to spend on the template so I used that. In live I may use tokens instead given that I'm lucky when I have over 40K on an alt, but that will depend on how many crowns they cost.

General Feedback: I agree that dyeing should not cost gold as many others have commented, at least not for ESO Plus. The more costs associated with changing things up, the more once-and-done the system will be. While 5-6K per outfit isn't huge, it is an inhibiting factor for players who can't maintain trading guild membership and thus only make gold from quests. Since dye choice can vastly change an outfit's impact, it seems a nice compromise to let paying customers tweak that part of the look at will and only lay out gold for actual item changes.

And a suggestion, not just for Outfits but for overall dyeing: When you've selected a color and you mouse over the dye slots, please make it so that color shows up on the gear even if you don't confirm it by clicking the slot. See GW2 dyeing for an example. Right now I have to guess which channel will affect which parts of the armor piece and then memorize it as I look away to the dye choices to pick other colors. If I could just pick, say, a red, and slide my mouse over the dye slots to see it flicker in and out on the armor (as in keep showing so long as the mouse is over the slot), it would smooth the process out considerably and be more fun.

Nothing in patch notes about pricing for the outfitting system?

At the very least, dyeing shouldn't cost something, it's really unfair to introduce a gold cost to dyeing outfits.

Also, the rare motifs are too expensive, 2k per armor slot, 3k per weapon slot. If the current costs go live, I will create a single outfit and never touch it again, not buying any more slots through crown store, just use the costumes I already have.

Don't introduce a cost system that heavily incentivizes making a single outfit and leaving it at that, instead of changing things around and trying out new styles. No one is going to try out a new style when it costs 30k gold simply to change the motifs and dyes ...

Per character. So if one is like me and has 14 characters (soon to be 15), you would get 14 Outfit Slots to work with; one for each of the characters.

But then, the Gold cost of Outfit creation itself comes in. I am sure most won't be able to afford to create even a single Outfit across ALL their characters, never mind potentially wanting additional Outfit Slots for your Important-Above-All-Others main character.

I am preparing by making and setting aside as much gold as I can. Call me crazy, but I am so fond of my main despite popular opinion of the class, I actually aim to get all 10 Outfit Slots opened up for him, so it is one less thing I have to worry about on my Vicious Serpent wearing main, heh...

Yeah yeah, I'm a sucker. I am obsessed with the aesthetics. Flawed though it may be, charging Gold even to Dye, the Outfit System will be like a dream feature for me~ I shudder to think of the absurd amount of hours it will just...disintegrate. :P

Also, as others have requested: resheathing.
The manual keybinds for sheathing/unsheathing your weapons and bar swapping work in the outfit system view. Its that the UI omits indicating that the keybinding works.

It only works if you have not changed the keybind of sheathing/unsheathing to a key used in the outfit station by default (though you can change that, too).

I, for example, usually put sheathing/unsheathing on F, which the station uses for randomizing, I think. Thus, without changing the keybind for the randomization feature as well, it's not possible to sheath weapons again. That will be true for any other key that is already used by the outfit station, if you happen to select it for sheathing weapons.

    Yes,
Gold, because who in their right mind would waste crowns on those tokens,

    Additional feedback:
You're hurting your players by having a cost associated with changing your outfit around. For those of you at ZoS who can't talk about it, or may be forced to do this, I am sorry for you. Just pass on this to whoever had the idea to implement a gold cost to try to sell tokens: Nobody is going to buy the outfit change tokens, it's outrageous, you're outrageous, don't have any cost associated with editing outfits for any class of player.
Outfit Slots are outrageously expensive. No, thank you.

As of PTS patch 3.3.2, we *still* do not know how the "Hide Your Helm" collectible works, nor how it can be unlocked, and the "Hide Helmet" function under armour styles still doesn't work either.

This is the official feedback thread for the Outfit System. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:

    * Was the system easy to understand?
Yes, very intuitive, things were neatly laid out and easy to browse through.

    * Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
No problem as I know where all the dye stations were plus I have several in my various houses. It would have been nice for the station models in my houses to change to the new sewing machine ones, though!

    * Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Very much so! I can see myself spending many hours messing with this. After all, when playing in 3rd person, I like to have something nice to look at!

    * Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
Tried both, though in Live, will likely just use gold unless the tokens are not too highly priced. Please go easy on the price-tags - you've been getting mighty expensive lately!

    * Do you have any other general feedback?
Regarding the 'hide helm' - I know it is currently bugged, but I am hoping that this is easy to acquire in-game, especially considering it's been removed from settings where it was free to use. Also, with this new way of hiding a part, could this be a viable forerunner to other 'hide' options, such as shoulders, chests, (for that bare-chested look) and maybe the hip flaps you guys are so fond of. (Even though so many players hate them, you chaps keep putting them on things and they look bad when they're floating off the character!)

Why all the costs? Especially why a dye cost? Dyeing is free to use on actual armour, but why is there a cost for dyeing an outfit? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me, really. Also, I'd have actually preferred for outfits to cost style materials, rather than gold.

Overall, it's still the best system I've used in an MMO by a very long way. It's surpassed my expectations in so many ways, even though it's been implemented in a way I wouldn't have imagined. It allows for a massive amount of customisation and I love variety.

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

The only issues I have had using the system:

First, I can't select no helmet and save it from the dye/outfit system. I assume it's intended but just double checking.

Second, what do we have to do to get the "Hide Helmet" collectible? I try to use it and it tells me I haven't collected it yet.
