PTS Update 17 - Feedback Thread for Outfit System

The ability to hide any outfit piece along with the head piece would be nice. I am so ready to retire these football shoulder pads and this cowboy looking belt buckle! Also fishing on the beaches of Vvardenfell barefoot sounds like a relaxing vacation.

Something else to think about in the future, dividing costumes into separate outfit pieces so that we can mix and match some of our favorite aspects of certain costumes.

Other than the steep gold prices, the rest of the outfit system is a very good start.

Telel found that the glitch involving guild tabards made its way onto outfits. it affects almost all chest pieces in the game.

This makes it impossible to wear anything but a costume if you wish to retain your guild tag, and not have a big black mass for a body. that renders the outfit system of less useful than costumes as it retains the same issue wearing regular armor already does.

That needs to be addressed by either having the outfit over ride tabards the same way costumes already do, fixing the glitch, or adding a hide tabard option.

Also the gold cost needs to be halved at the least. A quarter of its current cost would be preferable.

Am I the only one that wishes you could have any disguise dye-able and useable with this system?

Not just tabards fixed(whatever that ends up being), tho I'd prefer being able to fly a guild tag AND wear a disguise.

OR, a means of converting a disguise to a costume in-game??? I don't know, I am certain it's not that simple, but I do know I often enjoy wearing disguises you just can't get as a costume. PERIOD.

It's not as if they are difficult to obtain or retain, so it would be nice if you could spruce them up and more easily incorporate them in everyday play once they no longer serve the original purpose.

The Outfit System is easy to understand. I can see why it's taken you well over a year to put it together, since it is a very comprehensive system. The UI is clean and simple and I couldn't find any huge problems.

One minor issue - if you try to name an outfit such as "Bjorn's Ranger Outfit", the apostrophe in the middle converts to inverted commas and the name becomes Bjorn"s Ranger Outfit. Which is rather annoying.

The cost of the Outfit System was upfront. I liked the total at the bottom of the screen showing me how much gold it would cost to make the changes. I really liked that the default colours of the outfit matched the armour I was wearing under it, so I wasn't charged for my preferred colour scheme.

    Two problems though:
Am I extremely unobservant, or are Outfit Tokens simply not in the game right now? I tried to purchase one with my PTS Crowns and I couldn't find them anywhere in the Crown Store. I searched the Store, and then checked each category manually, and they were simply not there. I did not see this listed in the Known Issues section of the PTS Patch Notes.

Also, I am extremely disappointed that my existing Dye Stations will not change to the new Outfit Station appearance, and even more disappointed by the increase in price for Outfit Stations that people have suggested. I honestly thought the old mesh would be replaced by the new, like when you changed the Orc and Redguard armours.

Was the system easy to understand?

    Yes. Very Easy.

Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?

    No

Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?

The game makes more fun with the style i want. But i think some people can spend a lot of time to make his own special Outfit.

Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?

I use gold. But I am willing to use free Tokens.

Do you have any other general feedback?

The System is nearly perfect, very comfortable. I have waiting for this for a long time. But I am unsure what I should think about the dyeing with gold. Is there a reason to make it to cost money?

With the amount of pieces to choose from, I must say the system is a mess. Well, not the system, the interface.
There should be better visual indicator of what is what and what pieces are part of one style.
1a) Maybe a name (in a small font) at the top of the piece icon that could be switched on and off? (like a checkbox in the interface window "toggle item names on/off).
1b) Maybe when you mouse over a piece, change the background colour of the other pieces of the same style as well (just in different shade), or create a thin border over the entire set, like so?
    7O1Sk2m.jpg
1c) I'd like the possibility to make the icons bigger. Again, optional setting.

    2) It also isn't clear what Breton jack 1,2,3 means. Well, I figured it out after a few seconds, but only because I've been playing the game for a while and crafted my share of stuff. This will definitely confuse lots of people. There needs to be a clear explanation that there are tiers of craftable items based on the level/material used.

    3) For the love of god ADD ZOOM FEATURE!! PLEASE!!
3a) +the possibility to change the background to something neutral, like being in a white room or something. You know, so that background and lighting conditions don't interfere with what you're doing. Good luck previewing anything when it's night in the game. You're screwed for two or so real time hours. Not good!

    Some feedback for outfits:

The current gold cost is excessive, and will very quickly add up to a large gold sink, if you just want to change around minor things or change dyes.
What I really don't like is that the current gold payment scheme heavily incentivises making 1 outfit per outfit slot and then never touch them again, instead of changing details around. I'd like a fishing outfit, a casual in town outfit, a battle outfit for dungeons, a PvP outfit for pvping, holiday outfits for special holiday events, and generally just trying out this massive amount of motifs we now have available. Guess how much gold that will cost, on top of buying outfit slots from the crown store?
If the current system goes live, I'm much more inclined to just make 1 outfit I like with the free outfit slot, and sod the rest. I'm not about to put something between 5k-18k gold, times every outfitting change, times every outfit, down the drain just to change outfits.
We who care about cosmetic stuff are already heavily drained of gold. Motifs cost a ton, furnishing recipes cost a ton, houses cost millions, achievement and luxury furnishings often cost 100k or more per item.
I have a strong suspicion this is not because "the game needs more gold sinks", but more to make the outfit tokens more appealing, as well as buying more outfit slots, as well as using costumes instead of outfits.
There are several ways to balance this feature cost to something a bit more reasonable.
Motif/style mats will go useless with the current system. Introduce a cost of 1 style mat per outfit slot, as a mat sink for those mats. Either have the style mat as the only cost, or 1 style mat and half or a quarter of the current gold cost. People can then use their style mats with less of a gold cost, or they can buy mimic stones from the store and use those. Mimic stones will also currently be worth nothing with the outfit system.

The UI is really bad, as someone mentioned before. With this massive amount of items in the grid, tiny icons and no text, it's really just trial and error and a lot of time wasted to find the one item that I was looking for. I assume it will only be a matter of time before someone makes a PC addon that provides a better UI for this. Somewhat larger icons with a small text above would have made it a lot easier to find the one you were looking for.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/388903/should-outfitting-require-a-style-motif-stone-per-item/

The poll has had a small overweight against using style stones. But there is a significant minority ~40 % or so, that still prefers the use of style mats for outfits. Either with a lowered gold cost or with a removed gold cost altogether.

I think you guys should at least consider the requirement of style mats (or mimic stones) for outfit changing, or give us the reasoning behind foregoing the style mats altogether. There is a real concern that style/motif mats will be trash mats from now on, and that mimic stones will be rendered de facto useless.

    What about style stones?

As noted in another thread, I do question how this new outfit station will not be exploited so that people will run rare motifs they do not have style stones. Not to mention mimic stones.

It would also be nice if we could dye Facial Accessories/adornments. For example, I bought the Pact Dragonclaw Circlet because when I previewed it it was silver, but when I equiped it on the character I wanted to use it on, it was golden. In another character, it's bronze-ish. I really wish we could dye these as well or at least choose from the different options.

For those who are testing the outfit system, is it possible to equipe both outfit AND hat? Let's say I have a cool Wizard Hat and I want to equip both it and an outfit. Will it behavior the same way as equipping a hat and a costume (override helmet and work together)?

Yes, collectible hats work the same way as costumes. If you have an outfit selected, a hat will simply override the outfit's head piece, but nothing else of the outfit. Also, a costume will only override the armour parts of an outfit, not weapons and shield.

    • Was the system easy to understand?
    • Yes quite easy. Straight away I could see how to preview styles. One issue is that when you misspell a style name, it resets back to the dye section, and you lose where you were in the specific armour piece list.
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
      Not at all.
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
    • Yes fun and intuitive. However it will be more fun when all dye options are available. I suggest that for the PTS, dyes from achievements should all be automatically unlocked, there is no reason for them to be locked, especially as skins are unlocked for us.
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    • Gold only, haven't tried to find the tokens yet.
    • Do you have any other general feedback?
    • Add an option to toggle tabards, a lot of people like to wear them below their costumes, so that the guild tag still shows up in nameplates. Fix the aforementioned bug where the selection resets back to dyes. Instead it should stay in the section eg Chests, but just not show any options due to your spelling mistake. Also perhaps allow us to dye all 3 slots, regardless of whether the item has one or two available. Because I found that it would choose random colours, or default colours because the slot wasn't available when I originally dyed it. Typically happens on shoulder pieces.

Here is the problem I have with the system... while MOTIFS are 'account wide' there is nothing that says you must log into a particular character FIRST before it becomes account wide. I logged into my newest character and only had a couple motif styles, since that character had only learned two motifs... so I logged out and logged into my crafter who has numerous motifs learned, and only then did those motif styles become accessible by my newest character. So if a person has numerous alts that have different motifs learned, they may not realize you have to log into each one in order to activate the motif account wide.

I will say though, the system looks great... not a fan of the 'gold price' though, I personally think they're a bit too high. I'm also excited that I can turn my Templar's DW swords into daggers or even axes... and being able to color them FINALLY!!! Thank you ZOS!!! Also, like others stated... I didn't understand what the 1, 2, 3 styles meant until I realized they were referring to the style 'level'; so lower level styles were 1, mid were 2, and high were 3.

This is the official feedback thread for the Outfit System. Specific feedback that the team is looking for includes the following:
    • Was the system easy to understand?

Yeah. I understand now we have to pay gold or crowns for things we did for free before. That is wrong for a variety of reasons. By this I mean adding a pay component to this feature you have taken away so much fun from the game and makes us feel like we've been ripped off. If we have to pay to apply colors to every single piece of equipment then every color should be unlocked. Why should we have to earn the color twice?
    • Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?

      No.
    • Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?

No. Instead I was angered by the "application fee" and the removal of the "hide helm" feature.
    • Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?

I used gold. I would never buy tokens for that.
    • Do you have any other general feedback?

Why the heck did you take out the "hide helm" feature? That was out right unnecessary except that you wanted ONE MORE THING TO A A COST. MOST people hide them because they are all fugly. I guess they just don't know when to leave something alone, regardless of how upset it will make players. It would be different if it were a new, never before available feature, but to take it away so you can charge for it, that is not fair.

After testing the outfit system I can say that I am thoroughly impressed, its very user friendly and flexible. There were a few issues that I noticed.
    1. The default hide helmet toggle option was entirely removed. Many of us like to be able to toggle our helmets on and off as we play (on in combat, off out of combat, etc), we shouldn’t have to make an entire outfit just to retain that feature that was already present in the game.
    2. In the same vein, the hide helmet outfit style isn’t unlocked by default
    3. For some reason weapon coloring can only be done under outfit editing (for weapons that are actually equipped). Which makes no sense, as it is no different from armor or shield dying. This also means that it costs money to color your weapons, and that you need your outfit equipped to keep it dyed.
    4. It would be nice if we could hide other small armor pieces of armor as well, such as pauldrons, belts, gloves, and boots.
    5. Despite what the patchnotes say, the Imperial and Morag Tong converters aren’t unlocking their styles. It does make them free to use, but that’s not much help if you don’t actually have them.
    6. Outfits are not shown with the character creation screen (with race/appearance change).
    7. Only daggers got their previously unused 5th tier styles. It would be great to get access to those awesome weapon styles!
    8. It would be nice to have some real control over the camera angle and distance. Right now it kind of feels claustrophobic being forced in so close and at a low angle.

Signed into PTS last night to check out the changes:

Overall impression--the outfit system seems unnecessarily complicated.
You have taken away a simple "hide helmet" toggle and replaced it with something entirely too confusing that I have to pay to apply? I must now wear an outfit simply to not display my helm, this is not progress!
You have taken away the ability to transmute items to Imperial Style (that I paid for) and made that the same as someone who finds or buys the book? And I now have to pay gold to apply this "outfit"?

Was the system easy to understand?
Yes. Once I got in, it was easy for me to figure out.

Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
No trouble at all, I just used the dye station I have in my house.

Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
Yes, it was nice to finally be able to see all of the styles I've unlocked to see how they look on my orcs without having to burn through a bunch of materials.

Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
Outfit tokens weren't immediately available, so I had to use gold at first. With tokens costing 1 crown, those make it easier to test with. This question doesn't really provide good metrics, though, because we don't know the final cost of them. We need to know what the tokens cost before we can gauge if we would rather spend crowns or gold. What I can say currently, though, is that I would probably rather spend gold UNLESS I am doing a particularly expensive outfit and the tokens are VERY cheap. 50-100 crowns would be an acceptable range for this.

Do you have any other general feedback?
It's encouraging to see "Clothing" as an option, as I'm really hoping to see Contraband Clothing as one of the options. Can you guys bind unlocks to the Achievement system? "Disrobed Discipline" and "Indecent Exposure" would be perfect achievements to enable Contraband Clothing options and, if possible "Hide Slot" for all armor slots. I'm also hoping at some point in the future we will have options to mix Crown Store costume components into our outfits.

I saw the "Hide Your Helm" option in Collections > Appearance > Hats. Can we get the "Hide Slot" option in the same location for all armor slots as well? That way we can "take off" components of the outfit without having to spend gold/tokens to restore it.

Like others, I'm kinda not happy about gold costs for dyes. It's not a huge amount, so it's not a big deal. However, the current iteration means it costs gold to clear a slot of its style/dye. Clearing all armor slots and dyes is 700 gold in its current iteration, which again isn't a huge amount, but is also kind of an irritant. I feel as though clearing dye/slot should not have a cost.

Overall, though, I am liking the system so far.

    Summary:
    • Contraband Clothing and Crown Store outfits are all things I'd like to see available.
    • Hide Slot should be available for all slots, both in the Outfits system and in the Collections system.
    • Can accept if it costs gold to dye components, but clearing the style and dye slots should be free.

    Hope this helps.

Just took the system for a spin, and really enjoyed using it. Seems intuitive and easy to use, with great customization options. Only two things I didn't like, both minor:

First, dyes now cost gold to use, where they didn't before. It's not a substantial cost, but it is a change I'm not thrilled with, as I often experiment with dyes a bit, finding it necessary to view them in different lightning conditions than are possible at any given dye station before I'm sure they work.

Second, the sheer number of style collectables really warrants a search option. It's not too bad, since they're alphabetically sorted, but still. Honestly, there need to be a lot more searchable categories in game, though, and this is one of the ones that needs it least badly (compared to the bank, or selected style items when crafting).

there is a search function. Also, dyeing your armor still doesn't cost gold, only dyeing your outfit does, so no change there.

[*] Was the system easy to understand?
    Yes.

[*] Did you have any trouble finding an Outfit Station or accessing it?
    Not at all.

[*] Did you find the Outfit System to be fun?
I enjoyed it, allowed me to actually see the look of something on my character(s) without having to guess from 3rd party pictures.

[*] Did you use gold or Outfit Tokens to change your Outfits?
    Neither. Only previewed so far.

[*] Do you have any other general feedback?
I hope clothing obtainable from things such as Thieving be viable to 'unlock' for the Outfit System.
I would also urge you to consider that players tend to have different styles for each character. For players that frequent many of them this new system coming crashing upon them with only one available Outfit Slot will likely leave them sour in the mouth. Especially if they're already paying ESO+. Adding an additional outfit or two for ESO+ members might be a good choice and offer more incentive for players to join ESO+.

I don't have enough disk space to try the beta by myself, but here's a tiny bit of wishes:

It would be great if we could select the appearance of bows and arrows independantly.
It would be great if we could hide any piece of gear, not just the helm, through the Outfit system.
