One Mount To Rule Them All

I only have one mount. It is the cheapest mount in the game and it cost me just ten thousand gold. I scoff at the thought of buying a more expensive mount either with gold or crowns. Why? Because all mounts in the game function exactly the same. The only difference among the various mounts is purely cosmetic.

A more expensive mount is not inherently faster, is not more resilient, and does not allow you to carry more. Such features are gained through individual player character riding skills rather than the mount itself. There are also buffs for mount riders, but it doesn't matter what particular mount you are riding.

I know very well that people who buy more expensive mounts do so for the look alone. They want something different. They want something cooler. I have no problem with that. I'm not trying to tell anybody how to play their game. Whatever makes you happy, more power to you.

In my opinion, I personally see no incentive to spend more gold or spend any crowns on a mount when the cheapest one available is equal to everyone else's fancy mounts. By the way, the Imperial Edition comes with a mount included and it's also equal in function.

My point of this thread is to ask, do any of you think the same way and have only bought just the one cheapest (10k gold) mount or you have just the mount that comes included with the Imperial Edition, and you are happy with it and have no desire to ever purchase a more expensive mount since once again, all mounts in the game function exactly the same?

Horses in this game have a stupid open mouth and the vanilla horses don't blink. It bothers the crap out of me.

I like each of my characters having a mount that "matches" them, but I also just like having aesthetically pleasing mounts. Some models feel better, too. Like the guar has a very boingy boingy step and senches run very smoothly.

    You do you tho.

I’d swear that ratchety dwarven Spider is faster......but yeah. I just recently got that dromathra panther from crown gems. Completely cosmetic, but it looks cooler and makes horrendous noise when mounting.

I bought the gold edition and would feel guilty ever changing the mount that came with the game. She's been good to me and I should honor that. Even a skin would be a rejection of who she truly is.

I wouldn't pay money for a competitive advantage so I guess it's a good thing crown store mounts are purely for cosmetics.

At launch, your ridding skill was tied to the mount and not the rider. I bought several back then so that I could have a fast mount, a pack mount and a Stam horse. It was great. Then zos did there thing and here we are with a bunch of mounts that are all the same. Well, except my tiger.

I was that way, and I agree in general. Then I bought a dwemer spider with some crowns I had acrued through ESO+. Then a free crate gave me a robo-camel, so now that’s my “one and only”.

Sure, they don’t provide a function, but I’ll take a neat mount over a silly hat or a dlc that I already have unlocked.

On PC/EU, I'm using the Imperial horse, since that's not my primary server (NA is), so I didn't want to spend any crowns or gold. (I have the base game Imperial Edition, so the horse is cross-server, unlike the one from the Crown Store upgrade, so the horse is "free" for me on EU.)

Here's the funny thing, though: I virtually never see anyone riding around on an Imperial horse. The Imperial Edition base game was discontinued long ago, and most newcomers to the game are probably not going to blow a bunch of crowns on the Imperial upgrade in the Crown Store (particularly since there are so many other things in the CS these days that compete for someone's Crown balance). For the ESO veterans who have the Imperial horse, they've probably amassed quite a collection of mounts by now.

So the Imperial horse, which for me is a "free" mount, is also a pretty unique mount simply because nobody rides it any more these days.

I don't care much about mounts. I did buy the black one for about 43K back during release of the game simply because I liked the look and had no idea all mounts had the same stats.

I bought 8 dwarven crown crates and I got a pale guar, so now I use that one.

Would be great to see them add rideable ponies, horses with different body builds a la realism.

I really don't care for all the outlandish stuff that takes the game away from its original gritty, earthy aesthetic.

Also, more cosmetic options for mounts a la different armors, barding, saddlebags, etc.

    This.

    This.

    And This.

I've only bought one mount with Crowns (from ESO+). It was the black Sence tiger. I got it to match my black furred Khajiit Nightblade. All my other mounts are either ones from the stables that cost gold or free ones from special edition purchases or loyalty rewards.

I like for every character to have a different look, different mount, different pet, different costume/armor look, different races even. The whole thing. So, I have way more of everything than I could ever really use or want. Some things sounded cool at the time and then became less interesting as time went on. One time, I realized I had a guar mount (which I would NEVER have bought) and realized, well, looks like I was playing while drinking last night and now look at what has happened.

No mount is faster. People think there are differences because higher frequency animations give the impression of speed. Dwarven spider, guar, etc., repeat their riding animations much faster than bears and camels.

That doesn't mean they aren't an advantage. The mounts like bears and camels have a creeping effect on me in PvP. It's hard to get hyped when it looks like your moving in slow motion.

I used to be ok with my default horses for first few months of playing (I bought all color variations for gold). Well, if by ok I can describe my thoughts "Mounts are so stupid in this game! why does the horse stop so often?! I wish I could just move faster by foot and never ride again..." :/ I simply assumed all mounts behave the same, and only difference is looks.

Then I saw forum thread about what mounts people prefer, and there someone wrote that senche and wolf mounts have more smooth movement than horses. I decided to test it on PTS... Horses and guars/kagouti are only mounts who completely stop after jumping :o I don't know about elk and spider mounts since they were never on PTS so I couldn't test them. So, if "lame" horses and guars weren't also in crown store, I would think about crown store mounts as "pay to win" of some kind :D If you need to jump over something/land after some free flight, horse or guar will stop while other mount will continue it's fast run.
So after those tests I knew that mounts are not stupid in this game - it's just horses and guars who are simply bugged :/ I knew I would have to buy a proper mount at some point - a mount which I won't hate for stopping so often :)

I tried to ride one of my horses recently. There was lot of running and jumping... I returned to my senche very fast and it was like waking up after a nightmare <3 Horses and guars really need fixing.

As someone who's got both regular mounts and dwemer spider, I'll say this: all those little steps and stones that the horses stall out on? The spider doesn't do that.

When you've played for a while, 40K becomes a much smaller quantity of gold than it feels like at the beginning. At that point, I bought additional horses just for a change up. I may even have bought one mount with accumulated crowns from my subscription. I don't think I would ever pay real dollars for a mount. I just don't care enough. I do like the dwarven war horse I got with Morrowind. But I wouldn't pay for it.

My first horse was the 42k one that came with 10 inventory slots (because priorities!).

I think my second character got the cheaper horse, and my third got the black speed horse.

Then we got the tiger and they made mounts a skin and I went on to max out everyone's riding skill.

I've bought mounts from the crown store. I like that my argonians can ride guar.
