oh holy hell... so its not something that can be done accidentally then? well.. I'll be sad to lose a few new recipes i found before logging out for the night (no exploiting, just lots and lots and lots and LOTS or urn looting :P ), but.. I can find them again. losing years worth of progress is awful :/

Yeah as I said before reminds me of that bug that allowed random people to login to other peoples accounts during week 1 of launch 3 years ago not onpurpose but yeah they did mess around with them

@ZOS_GinaBruno Hi if the servers are being down to fix the exploit how come we are not allowed to know anything about it? I haven't known the servers to be taken down for a fix before, usually it's a hotfix, though I can't remember if the banker exploit was taken down.

Anyway, I'm assuming this is to do with something to do with gold or item duplication.

If their patch doesn't actually fix it. We've actually seen that before where they took the servers down to apply an emergency fix and the fix no fixed.

Wait....wait...wait..... if you log onto someone account in accident then you log the F out and immediately message ZOS!!
Clearing out their gold and kicking people... that is not an "accident"

It might not even be that issue that I'm seeing lol. It could be something else completely.
That issue though I do hope gets fixed, my bank was untouched though.

I prefer hearing about exploits after they are fixed. Why? Because it cuts down on temptation. Nobody is tempted to try out a exploit that is already fixed. So no risk of getting banned because you were a curious Khajit and couldn't control yourself.

Side note, i hope your account gets fixed @nine9six cus that just sux. And if it means a roll back, then i really don't mind the extra time i'll have to play to get back to where i left off. Cus thats just not cool to do that to people.

I wonder what exploit could get Zeni off its butts to jump and fix? I mean we have gone several weeks even months with certain exploits before Zeni would acknowledge them, and we have had some bad exploits in the past so what makes this one so special that Zeni jumps to fix it?

Generally if the exploit can ruin the in-game economy, they're faster about fixing it since it has a wide impact, like with the survey banker exploit. So I'm thinking it's along those lines, but it'd still be nice to get confirmation if the exploit is something that'd have to be done maliciously/intentionally.

    This.

I can't say this is *EXACTLY* what the issue is, but I'll give you a little insight on what I've experienced in the last 12 hours...

I logged-off around 9:30 PM EST last night.

I checked Discord on my phone around 7 AM EST while taking my puppy out and had our 2nd In Command messaging me saying I was demoting people, kicking people, Guild Bank, etc. They knew it wasn't me, and that my account had been compromised.

I logged in and checked, sure enough...my account (Tens of millions of Gold and tens of thousands of Gold Materials, Psijic Recipes, Rare Motifs, etc. Literally...a Jackpot Account.) had been hijacked.

I never got an "unknown IP" email. I only play in 2 locations. Neither are accessible during the hours which this 'attack' took place. Unless you like armed security at one location or a nasty Doberman in your face at another...lol.

I lost 3.5 years worth of stuff, not to mention 2 of my Personal Guild Banks! :(

I hope this is all related, and I hope they roll-back all the changes that were made during this time.

*IF* this isn't related...well...it's been fun playing with you all!

The evidence of what you had in your accounts/banks could be on the PTS in this case even without a rollback I would hope ZOS is sympathetic to such an account hack situation and can do something like copy over the items from PTS back to the Live server.

:( Sad that it takes players to narrow down what is going on rather than ZOS just giving us a decent update - especially if our accounts might be comprimised - SMH.. people seem to congratulating ZOS on 'cute memes' and taking the servers down and not really expecting much more.. Honest players are kept in the dark - whilst the exploiters will continue to collude and share their little tricks.

Anyway ZOS - we will find out anyway, just through the grapevine and not through a couple of lines from you.. wierd but watev's.

I was nearing the end of a dungeon when I got a big bright yellow notice about the servers going down in 10 min for maint. Putting that notice in game was very helpful and let me get my elf to a happy place and exit the game in a controlled manner. Thanks for the in game notice!

Hey, maybe just me, but I could care less what the exploit is. The timing indicates it is serious and the exclusion of XBox servers means it was likely introduced by the latest patch since XBoxers don't have that patch yet. That's enough for me.

shouldve carried on, servers didnt go down for 30mins lol

Any MMO server going down for unscheduled maintenance without much of a warning usually means the bug is very severe. I smell duplication bug.

They don't take servers down for duplication bugs afaik. These have been in game for weeks shortly after launch and they didn't care - not enough to take servers down for instant fix, anyway. I'd guess Crown Store because THAT they'd react to alright...or perhaps indeed something related to account security.

@ZOS_GinaBruno, I understand you're simply saying what you're allowed to say and I assume you won't be allowed to say what it is even after it's fixed, but what is the actual reasoning for this total lack of transparency? Surely if you're getting this fixed it cannot possibly harm anyone to know what it actually was.

Edit: wow @nine9six, hope you can get that sorted out:( Could it be that your email account got hacked as well and someone recieved that code instead of bypassing the need for one?x_x

What if you didn't do an exploit intentionally? Me and a group of friends got the no death on our first run, despite dying on the last boss countless times. We were confused as to how we even got the achievement, especially when we had someone dc at the last boss, and we got in a random, that also got the achievement.

Please explain us once again, why downtime is done only when EU prime time is nearby? Few hours for fixing some exploit? Since when applying fixes takes so much time? You need to replace whole game data at servers or what?
We certainly avoid taking the server offline during prime time, but in this case, the issue was serious enough to require us to apply a fix immediately.

Even better: just one exploit. Normal downtime is already a few hours, so why does it take another few hours to fix one little thing?

This is ZOS - Their on/off switch is RNG based, so they only have a 1 in 6 million chance of getting the result they want whenever they press it. They are thinking about introducing a token system to make it faster, but there's no ETA yet.

Hah, could be that servers can only come back online after someone successfully loots a sharpened mother sorrow sword during post release checks. (well I guess it should be infused now... but anyway).

If its a server roll back, its understandable that they don't have an eta. Since they also want to catch the thieves, see the full extent of damage to estimate how far back the roll back needs to go. And which accounts are the culprits for the crime so those can be banned.
All of those things are time consuming and have no normal eta.
So yea, very likely this is whats up.

What is the exploit please @ZOS_GinaBruno ?

Due to the nature of the exploit, we aren't able to divulge any details. That said, you can rest assured that we will be fixing it, and any accounts found to be abusing it will be taken care of.

Unless there is a law or legal requirement, there shouldn't be a reason to not be 'allowed to say' - at least in the most generic terms.. e.g. some people were found to 'get' 50 items for the price of 1 - whatever - without giving up the exploit (so people dont frantically try to discover it) and sure do this after you take the servers down.

There is no 'not allowed' - its simply a 'choose not to' because most users tolerate it and *some* would rather focus on flower or kitten memes ;)

What if you didn't do an exploit intentionally? Me and a group of friends got the no death on our first run, despite dying on the last boss countless times. We were confused as to how we even got the achievement, especially when we had someone dc at the last boss, and we got in a random, that also got the achievement.

    This isn't for the no-death achievement - you're fine. :)

Well this lack of information and speculation has been fun . I assume anything that can't be devulged as something that would effect consumer confidence so I'm just going to assume I should pull my consumer confidence and avoid resub this round . Change all my information to log in and go to DefCon 1 like ZoS is .

Might want to add that info to this: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/366588/pc-mac-na-eu-downtime-8-16-10-40am-edt#latest
Topic, i'm seeing a lot of people here posting that they're worried about that bug.

Hopefully they fix the Treasure Hunter CP while they're at it!
That fix will be in the next incremental, not during this downtime.

Please explain us once again, why downtime is done only when EU prime time is nearby? Few hours for fixing some exploit? Since when applying fixes takes so much time? You need to replace whole game data at servers or what?
We certainly avoid taking the server offline during prime time, but in this case, the issue was serious enough to require us to apply a fix immediately.

everything in an mmo is primetime XD
I know someone who have their playtime before work at 6 am, and someone getting up from bed at 15 pm.

That's very true. It's always tough to choose a time to do maintenance since someone will always be affected. But playing before 6am? Ouch!
